If you are not going to read this whole thread through, please do not bother with the first sentence. You have read enough. Tour de Vizzed, I am sure, is always an exciting time of the year for fellow posters to bring out their competitive sides to each other and show everyone what they can do. As I have heard from many more experienced users who have been around longer than I have, nothing gets them more pumped up, and it is a great and fun way to liven up the Board. I am pretty sure it must have been at one point. I thought it was amazing, as well, until today, when it was ruined for me. I already knew a few days ago that I was no match for the older, more experienced users on board, and I was fine with it; it is a competition, we should expect these sorts of things. But that is not what I am upset at, of course. It is the ridiculously high amount of immature spammers (whom I am not going to mention, as that would be 'attacking') and people who reply to threads after only reading the first sentence, obviously in a rush to make the most posts. People like that kill the spirit of posting, which is what the contest is supposed to be all about, and go "click, click, click!" That's why I no longer see Tour de Vizzed the same way I did before. No one's serious about it anymore, and just post mindlessly. The same person, who am not going to mention (you know who you are) has replied to two or three of my early threads with rubbish: two short lines of little, meaningless content. To quote him exactly: "That might have hurt. At least you didn't die. HA HA HA!!!" and "I know is hard. You just have to keep on trying. And conquer everybody! HA HA HA!!!". Again, I'm not going to mention you, person, but if you do it one more time and still haven't figured out it was you I am talking about, I will notify you using a Private Message. I honestly expected better from a lot of people here. Every single spammer I have in mind is older than me. I am not impressed. People who submit short, posted-in-a-flash threads of nothingness don't deserve to make the top five in any Jersey Competition. Unfortunately, they do. Which is why I will never win. Because I don't spam. I don't even bother to look at my notifications anymore, I know it will be flooded with empty words. Tour de Vizzed has noble intentions, yet has the wrong effect on people. It's depressing, the amount of short replies I get, one literally saying "I skimmed through, but I will read it later", and is enough to make me quit Vizzed. A lot of people are quality posters, though. Good luck to you guys, you have tough competition. If I do leave Vizzed, those of you who know you're spammers, blame yourselves for that. You made the whole thing dumb and pointless. Thank you. NintendoFanKimmy, out.

Hey, just be chill. I mean, every TDV has spammers and cheaters, but we all just get passed that. I get what you are feeling, but it really isn't that bad OK? It is still fun as long as you follow the rules.

I'm sorry that Tour de Vizzed got ruined for you there

But every TdV is going to have a spammer or at least someone who is going to ruin someone's fun with the competition. I'll be honest, I stopped caring for the last TdV after people kept spamming and making pointless threads. After all the people who are doing the spamming will possibly get DQ'd at some point this month. Heck, today, I had to tell someone to be more careful and if that person kept doing what he was doing, that would happen.

I'm going to be honest here though. I do not think all of this should be the cause of leaving Vizzed. True, spammers had annoyed you today, but stuff like that happend. Some people even call TdV "Spamfest" because of this. Besides, it's only a competition. You don't have to compete.

I hope you can continue to have fun posting. Just ignore those people.

NintendoFanKimmy: You do realize that you can report those people who are spamming the board, making pointless posts or threads, double posting, or intentionally making posts longer than they should, right? Even if you didn't report via private messages, all the top 10 competitors of each TdV category are being monitored by the staff and if we see something that is against the rules or intentionally spamming just to get to the top of the rankings, they are DQ'd for the entire month. Note, I said the ENTIRE MONTH, meaning they will not be competing anymore and will never get on the boards. This is a new rule implemented by David so that people will take this seriously. If it gets serious, we can even give them a temporary ban from the site for spamming. As long as those people are shutdown, this TdV can still be fair and people would actually answer your threads meaningfully.

Speaking of which, I would like to know who you are referring to, so that I can look into it and see if that person needs a DQ, or worse, a ban.

I'm sorry Tour de Vizzed has been ruined for you.

If it helps any, I'm kind of done with it also. People post (mostly spam) so much that there's no way I can ever keep up. Please don't leave Vizzed because of a few jerks.

NintendoFanKimmy : I seriously hate when people just spam and break the rules to get points and they aren't even caught. It's just complete nonsense. I completely understand you because I've been competing for over a year and it's always different cheaters but worse every 3 months. People don't even bother to read threads they just click then they do a really short reply, that is never good! Even when I tell some people and give them a warning they just ignore it and do what they want as if they don't care. This is 100% about the TDV, cheaters. They deserve bans and DQ's because it's 100% unfair to other users. You did the right thing, you actually read the threads and reply with detail, that is the right way to go. People got to watch out for those spammers and give those DQ's almost everyday and make them learn they're lesson. This person was sandwich posting like crazy and he even said not to talk to him when I am trying to help him, that's just nonsense right there.. Of course that particular person doesn't want to be caught obviously. I am not saying the name of the person like you because it would be a little strange in public.

I feel you Kimmy, I know how it feels, I am experienced with this, But sometimes we just have to deal with it even though things they do are completely wrong.

And please don't leave, it's just a posting competition and they'll eventually get caught and probably DQ'ed. I'm really sorry this isn't fun for you. It was supposed to be fun, this month it really isn't. :/

Here is my opinion just by reading your post.

TDV is always going to have spammers because people think if they spam and it gets unnoticed they can get away with it but it doesn't work that way very much. The mods do try to prevent the spam but since there is usually like 10 spammers and like 3 actual good posters(example) it kinda gets hard to stay caught up with the spammers while also keeping up with the rest. But in the end there is no "good" way to prevent spam during this time.

So in the end it is usually best to avoid posting during TDV or unless you are determined to actually win and post great stuff it will be hard so it is better to avoid then actually trying and stressing to win and end up losing.

Don't let others bother you.  If you let other people's action dictate what you do, specifically "If I do leave Vizzed, those of you who are spammers, you can blame yourself," then your life will be full of disappointment.

Either try to change the rules to make a 80 word post minimum to make a post eligible for tour de vizzed or try some other rule change to stop spammers.  Take action instead of complain and leave.  Complaining and leaving doesn't help.  Try to offer a solution when you see a problem.

Let's make Tour De Vizzed posts require a minimum of 50 words to count.  How's that sound?

Try something like that to solve the issues you deal with in life.  Find and fight for a solution.

NintendoFanKimmy : I can completely understand you. I don't like the TDV either, also thanks to those spammy posts.

Those TDV crazy posters don't now better what to do and they just go ahead and are posting like crazy which becomes spam. If this happens, the Staff (Including me.) would really like if someone for example you to tell us what those spammers are doing so we can catch them and after that, they get DQ or if it's really worse a temp ban. Most times, it works as a lesson for the spammers to let them see that they did something wrong and the most times, they won't do it ever again! The TDV always has changed people in all of the years, that's a fact. At least when I came here. But don't try to leave thanks to stupid spammers who are dumb. Don't give up till the very end and having fun is important too! ~

Try to ignore those spammy posts. That's the best way to start with. Talking with your friends from Vizzed is something you can do, if you do this there is a big chance you completely forget everything about the TDV because you have really much fun. (It works for me, so maybe you can give it a try once!)

I know exactly how you feel and I am certain you know how I feel, too. I have been attempting to win a Jersey ever since this Tour de Vizzed had begun, but I am unable to, considering there are a plentiful amount of spammers and double-posters. Some of the spammers even commented on my review that I was spamming. I would not consider that stupid part of my review to be spam, but I would definitely consider it to be pointless and unnecessary. Someone even said the whole review itself should have been trashed. No, it should not be, just edited! -.- Although, I still attempt to compete. I mean, today is not such a spammy day, it is kind of surprising. I had been gone for about two or three hours and I remain within the lead for three of the Jersey. Pretty shocking for a spammy competition this month, eh? Well, anyways, I would not bother to resign, considering your statistics are automatically submitted to the Tour de Vizzed. Anyways, happy posting and I wish you the greatest amount of positive luck possible!

I would like to try to put a positive spin on this situation. Last month, there were days that I would log on and find maybe 20 new posts in a 12 hour period. The board was so quiet.

This tour de Vizzed stuff makes the forums come to life and I think that is the point. There is so much chatter going on that its hard not to find something to talk about. You will get spammers, there is no way around it. The key is to sort through the spammers and talk to or read posts from the users that actually have something relevant or intellectual to communicate about.

Sadly, thats the thing about alot of things, there is ALWAYS someone to come and ruin your activity ( in this case TDV).

I dont take part cause im not really an active poster, i just do around the site not caring if i get a jersey or something. Like you, i have noticed spammers on the site, with like 20 to 40 words to a thread that has like nothing of importance and make the thread longer but spacing out the words, while im okay with this for people that arnt spammers, it frustrates me for the people who ARE spammers. I mean................wouldint this..........be annoying. more or less im not bashing anyone, im just pointing out what some spammers do. Some spammers dont even know they are spamming which, if they clear that up is absolutly fine.

I don't want to insult or criticize you but I have seen a fair share of spam from you during this Tour de Vizzed.
I wouldn't complain about something that I have done unless it was something I did ages ago.

I really thought you have changed but you seem to be going back in the direction you were when you were a newb. Don't fall in the traps you are complaining about. As I said I am not insulting you but I am giving you some advice.

I think the only type of spam I have never seen you do is the "oh I just skimmed through" replies. When I see this on reviews it makes me go mad. I can name so many users but I would rather not.

In general TdV spam is really annoying and it irritates me to see people dominate the blue jersey with posts of only less than 30 words. But on the other side of spam I have seen people who add adjectives to everything so their word count is high, though I must admit I used to do that about 4 months ago but not as much as thou shall not be named (it is pretty easy to tell who).

MechaMento : Do not worry, I appreciate your advice. And I thought the only thing I was doing wrong was the tabbing technique (do not worry; it resulted in a disqualification from the Green Jersey). It never occurred to me that I may have been spamming. Could you link some of my spam posts, please? I would appreciate it. Again, thank you for the constructive response. I need to be taught some lessons if I want to make my way down the road of being trusted. Your help is appreciated, and thank you. I apologize for any trouble I may have been causing during this season's posting competition. I have heard from many friends, specifically Eniitan, that TdV has changed some people, and not in good ways. I guess I was a temporary victim. It drove me to post mindless threads in my attempt and struggle to remain within the top five. I really needed a reply like this to show me my wrongdoings and knock some sense into me. Thanks, MechaMento, and good luck to all !

Some of the threads you have made were spam during the TdV but no where near as many as you used to. There were a few posts too for instance this one

https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=68023&ppp=35&page=0#968394

Yeah you made your point but just a little bit of description like most of the other posts which would say why you bring it, of course you didn't have to ramble on about it.

And that one I call a zelda2.

Posts like those belong for profile comments in my opinion but again it is only something little.

Basically all you need to do is think weather your post is personal or not.

MechaMento : I guess I never realized those because I wasn't posting them for Tour de Vizzed. It seems as though all I remember are the posts I make to win the competition. Thank you for pointing those out; they were really meaningless. Those posts were just some I made in a hurry when I was worried about someone, I guess... I'm sorry. I will not be doing that ever again. There are a thousand feelings I am willing to let to get to me and define my personality. Shame and un-trustworthiness are not on my list, though. I strive to be a true trusted member. Not a Trusted Member. A trusted member. As in really trusted and known for being kind, because that's what I am. I want the respect for myself to be based on my true personality, not Points. I haven't achieved that yet. If it weren't based on Points, it is safe to say that I would be nowhere near where I am now, which isn't much to begin with. I hope to be, though. To start, I should be kind to others. It is kind of ironic, I find, that I have made this thread about what ruined the competition for me when I am ruining it for everyone myself... I really don't think I rightfully deserve those Trust Points. Not now, anyway. I am just abusing them. People may see me as good for now, but when I reflect upon myself, I know I can do better. I apologize for everything, and I'm sorry if this was another wordy spammy meaningless reply, but I had to let that out... Again, thank you very much for your advice. I plan to follow it and become better with my ways.

I know exactly how you feel, it's why I don't post that much in general; I just kept getting frustrated at the blatant disregard for the rules.

Back when I did compete, I used to report things constantly whenever I saw someone spamming or cheating in other ways (quoting really long things WAY too often, plagiarism, using the "fun" forums way too often for posts, manually posting a signature in a post every time for extra words), but they didn't get resolved very much. Mind, this was a year or two ago, but it was enough to just turn me off. I also did not like what the competition was turning me into; felt like I was playing mini-mod.

I don't think it is worth quitting vizzed over, however, as there still can be interesting threads to be read and replied to, but I understand giving up on the competition. Bummed me out after making sure every post I did had meaning, posting in all the threads that I could find interest in, then getting beat out by some jerk with stupid posts or one that you could tell did not even read the topic.

I hear ya. The TDV is a spam-fest 99% of the time. You know what ruined it for me? Becoming a mod ;-) lol The summer one especially is BRUTAL.

I know the users get excited about it, but I know the moderating team doesn't really look forward to the added work and babysitting required. Then people get mad at you for DQ'ing them or banning them lol.

The funniest thing is, that this is one of the LEAST spammy TDV's ever.

It's still wicked spammy, and it really kills my drive to read any posts, and thus reply to them, since everyone is just artificially pumping up their unimportant word count.

Few people seem to get you can win the yellow jersey without being a quality member and writing a lot of words for the day. Quality isn't about how many words you say, it's about how much your words say.

I have seen posts that were 10 words long be higher quality than posts that were 900 words long. I have seen posts that were just an image (and thus only 1 "word") that I didn't think were spammy.

Few people seem to understand this is possible, but I don't hold it against people, since it's not something everybody notices, especially during a TDV where everybody thinks they aren't spamming.

As a former global moderator, who was basically the "forum" global, my job was to watch over the TDV, and often times, I had to punish people for spamming and breaking the rules. When punished, these people would call me a tyrant and cry foul because it "benefitted" me as a competitor.

These people fail to realize I only competed in 2 TDVs, in all truth, and I always handed the decision down to locals and other globals when I was a benefactor. This was to prevent the accusations above from happening.

My point is, the TDV brings out the worst, and the nastiest sides of pretty much anyone, and I really don't get it.

It's a posting competition. You aren't winning anything of value, you just get to say you output the most spam in a single month. That's not praise worthy. It's shame worthy.

ruesen :

I don't think I was a global back then, then, because those are things I would have punished people for, back when I was. I was very very strict with DQs and the like. I really dislike that stuff, even when it's NOT for the TDV, and I tended to ignore words on posts like those.
