Let's pretend I'll ever be as stupid and win the TdV. Will people congratulate me? In a post, maybe. But you can bet you'll either receive hate mail OR you feel as those people dislike you because you beat them. There's almost zero sportsmanship in it. Which is lame. People take out everything in their life in order to get a colored username for one day. It's supposed to be fun, though the community acts like it's everything in the world.

Hm, just because I'm not that interested. Although I once made a post with more than 1000 words which became the third or four place on the list of biggest posts of the day, I was pretty proud of that. It became so big because there were a lot of people waiting for a respond.

Because I hate posting competitions. There used to be a time where I would love the TDV and would always strive to win it. I got second place a few times but looking back at my posts I was a complete dolt.

Half of that competition is complete spam. My definition of spam is quite a bit different from the mods.

To be honest I really couldn't give a hoot about losing any friends here which probably wouldn't happen. If someone gets mad because they lost a posting competition they're pretty much stupid to begin with.

If people want to post then they should post because they actually want to. Why post just to get some colourful name and a few compliments for a week or two. Not really worth it in my opinion.

So much spam.

I don't feel like there's anything to be gained from trying my hardest to beat a s*** load of spammers every few months.

I won the TDV in Summer 2012.

When I did that I was literally on Vizzed every waking hour of every waking day, making as many quality posts as possible.

The mods aren't to blame for the spam, because it's in that awkward in between stage. It's not quite "breaking the rules" spam, it's just low quality and pointless posts (which I view as spam) which the mods can't punish.

There's nothing wrong with the moderation, but I do think there's a problem with the rules themselves. Quality should be the emphasis of the event, but no matter how quality you are, you will always lose out to people who spam posts and words that mean absolutely nothing, unless, like me, you spend every waking hour of every day posting.

It's just not worth it. I spend a lot of time on my posts, most of the time. That's how you can tell I'm a quality poster. I make sure all my words are exactly right, I proof-read. I make sure that when someone reads my post, they know what I am talking about, or can at least tell that I put some care into the words.

This isn't true for people who post 30 times in an hour, and only write 30 or so words in each one.

I just have a lack of respect for this event, because so much is allowed, that I personally wouldn't allow. Quality over quantity. (I know, strange coming from a guy with 22k posts.)

Also, competitions are more or less lame.

I didn't participate because I don't know what a TdV is.

There is too much spam, and it gets lame half way through the month. I only compete a little now adays, just to add more jerseys to my total count. I like the TDV when it is all veterans.

Yeah, as leggy said, there is just to much spam and I don;t think it is worth the time of day to sit and post for hours and make legitimate posts against people that make 3 word posts in the same thread over and over again and they end up winning 2 of the 4 jerseys. If competition were fair and everyone attempted to make their posts better quality and avoid sandwich posting, then and only then would I be more encouraged to compete. 

I won the October 2013 TDV and it was hard going against the spammers, but I got through it, here we are 2 TDV's down the road and the spam is even worse because the competition gets crazy and people don't know what a quality post really is. I am not saying that it has to be 500 words written in old English font, but at least make a post that relates to the topic, if someone puts the time in to write a story or poem, most people during the TDV reply like this, sometimes without even reading it: 

Nice story, keep up the good work!

And then they find somewhere else to post. I just don't think it is worth my time to lose sleep and post all day long against spammers just to where a rainbow banner or jersey for a month, just to be hated by everyone because I beat them, that has already happened to me once and I don't want to go through it again.

As you can see, I take a lot of time with my posts, sometimes even 5-10 minutes for some posts just to make sure everything is worded correctly and makes sense, It is really the content of the posts that truly matters, not the sheer amount of posts. I would much rather have 1 good quality post that people can understand rather than 100 spammy posts that are irrelevant. This is what TDV largely consists of, posts that are irrelevant and rushed. This is what discourages me from competing in the TDV. 

In short, I don't see the point in a competition to see who (basically) can talk the most. And people's mindsets change over this. Posts are no longer thought out and made for the sake of saying something with thought. They are made for the sake of only being made, and earning a reward.

A title.

And a name color change.


Making real, good, thoughtful, posts is a better reward in itself.

I have better things to do than cast myself out in a war zone, thought those two red and yellow jerseys that I deliberately tried to avoid getting did feel a little bit cool.

But I wasn't trying to get them either. So. . . go figure.

I'm still very new on this forum, but I'm not new to posting on forums on the internet in general.

I'm not participating because quality posts are not measured by their frequency or their size. However, if game reviews count as posts, I may show up in a few of the results because I'm currently working on a few game reviews and those sometimes end up going pretty long.

   I don't compete mostly because of the spam. During the TdV, quality isn't something that can be checked, so that all goes out the window, and is replaced with tons of spammy posts. And even just making a thread is dangerous, because it is easy for it to get attacked by that same spam. I prefer to have my posts at a good quality.

   Also, there is basically no reward for it. Just a change of colors for a little while. And even the red jersey gets spammed, either by so much extra filler in reviews or stories, and not to mention that most get replies that are just a few words for the post count.

Brigand : Brigand has it.  It's just a reason for people to save up and pile on comments which have little to do with conversations.  It is a competition that promotes fast answers.  I take the time to read, research, counter or agree, and let the conversation flow.  Tour de Vizzed is more like asking 18 different questions about Pokemon.  Or about Sonic.  Or about what you ate for dinner last night, etc etc.

Traffic for me is down because 90% of the threads aren't interesting to me.  It's great if a thread count gets up to 100 posts and it's raging but if it's TdV time, it is unlikely to be a good conversation.

I am here to throw my thoughts in, read what others have to say, and discuss things.  I do a lot more posting on another site that has a much higher average age.  This is something I take with a lack of seriousness.  I just can't care about a little jersey or an award or my name showing up different because I'm throwing out four sentence comments.  I naturally average 100+ words a post because I try to ask and really answer people.

TdV isn't built to do that.

Well somedays when i need to play a game against someone stuff in my life comes up preventing me to play and some of the games played for the TdV are games im not good at lol

Three reasons.

1) It's too late. Zanderlex pretty much locked up the TdV, so there's really no reason to seriously try and compete. I'll try to grab a jersey here and there, but I'm not seriously competing.

2) I'm way too lazy. It takes a huge amount of energy to actively compete, and right now, I don't have the energy or the patience to do so.

3) Spam kills it. So much spam has occurred over the past TdV's that it saps the motivation out of me (not that I'm very motivated to begin with).

I don't participate in the TDV's because I've noticed the kind of thread and post replies that result from the competition. Thread and post replies during this competition are of very low quality, with if not vague than no detail or it just seems like no effort was made into even explaining the reasoning behind what you posted. In addition to that I don't want to participate in the TDV because I don't want to help further or encourage people to post poor quality thread or post  replies in effort to win a competition with little next to no reward. 

To many spammers. And things like that. Unfair time difference and a lot of different things. I dislike the TDV.
