Do you care a lot about your appearance in school (not just clothes)? Why or why not? Did you used to care about it in the past?

For me, I don't care much about it. People rarely pick on me about it, except for a few people who are mean to almost everyone around them. There probably isn't much to tease me for anyways, I usually wear jeans with a jacket. I have 3 different jackets that I wear to school so it isn't always the same one every day XD

Besides clothes, I have glasses and acne, which no one bothers to tease others about anymore. They're common characteristics of my peers.

I used to care a ton about my looks in 7th grade, the one year I decided to abandon my normal personality and try to become like my peers. That was an epic fail and since my best friend saved me from falling into a pit of failure in 8th grade, I haven't cared about it. I don't have a habit of paying attention to my peers' appearances much (unless they're girls I have a crush on, of course, then it becomes hard not to). So I don't usually care about my peers' appearances either

I used to care so little that I actually looked silly. Since I started puberty early (I had pimples by age 10, and my voice had completely matured by age 12) I grew facial hair very early one. In secondary 1 (grade 7) I was the only guy with facial hair and people started telling me more often how silly it looked. I gave in, reluctantly...

Then in college I started noticing that I *may* need to take better care of myself. When I looked at my bus pass picture I realized how bushy my beard was and how UGLY it looked. Since that day I trim my bear once a month.

As for clothing, I learned with time that appearences, while "artificial", still mattered if not to feel better for yourself. I am not saying I am a fashionista, but when I returned to college I would wear nicer clothes rather than ordinary t-shirts that did not express anything.

PacmanandMariofan : lucky you. I had acne (almost) non-stop for nearly 9 years and the teasing was pretty intense. And most of the teasers did not get it as bad as I did. Fortunately the glasses were of no importance.

PacmanandMariofan :

This is a good question! Before I talk about my stance, I just wanted to say that when people pick on others for things they can't do anything about (like acne and glasses), they're trying to boost their own self esteem by pushing other around. Just igonre those people, nobody care's about their opinion anyways.

Anyways, when I was in school, I really didn't care what I wore. I mean, yeah it had to match a little bit, but what you saw was what you got. I dress pretty much how I act. I never really cared about how I looked in high school really. I imagine if I returned to college I would probably be more decisive on what to wear, but who knows, right?

I didn't really care about my appearance when I was in school very much. I never really cared what people thought about the clothes I wore or how my hair looked. I didn't have a lot of acne issues in school. Strangely, I didn't really start having acne problems until I was out of school.

PacmanandMariofan : It all depends how tired I am in the morning to be honest. My hair's kinda fluffy and can get everywhere, so I figure I can just put a hat over it or brush it for a couple of minutes, and I don't ever bother with makeup unless I'm forced to. I think my friends wished I cared about my appearance since whenever I 'clean myself up' they go on strong with the compliments.

Besides, my laziness exceeds my desire for people to think I look pretty.

Skilledtree : The thing about people picking on others to boost their self-esteem is that it never works the way they want it to. That's why I can easily resist doing so.

gamerforlifeforever2 : That is strange. My mom still has acne problems and she's in her 40's

MarisaDeviant98 : My appearance can also depend on how tired I am when I get up. If I'm really tired I usually grab one of the first shirts I see in my closet without paying much attention, but if I'm more awake I take more time to decide on a shirt.

I don't really care about archaic, arbitrary things like appearance in high school. When it comes to finding something to wear, I usually wear a simple hoodie or long sleeve shirt with pants or slacks. I honestly think it would be so much better if my school had uniforms, that way I wouldn't have to exert time and effort into finding something to wear in the morning.

Throughout my entire school career, I've never really cared about standing out or receiving attention. I've already learned and accepted the fact that a lot of the things people consider to be "important" in high school are mostly regarded as trivial and insignificant later on in life. Ignore the people that pick on others, they'll be the same ones that serve your food at the drive through window in a few years. Their opinions are below worthless in the grand scheme of things.

If people put as much time into fixing their attitude and personality as they do into worrying on how they appear to others, I really think the world would be a much better place.

Razor-987 : Good point about those people that pick on you, my teachers have told me that multiple times for the past couple school years. One of my teachers constantly says we have to get our act together since we were meant for so much more than just working at the drive-thru for McDonald's.

That's one of the advantages of having a school uniform. There isn't much effort you need to put into wearing a school uniform and you likely won't be so judged about what you're wearing.

I did care about my appearance a bit back then. Well it was the time I got bullied. But I never  wore make up though I more like used to have my hair in a certain style I would like it. Either down or in a bun then I would wear hairband and stuff to complete my look. That's the only thing I did based on my appearance at school.

I care a little bit. I used to be bullied at a previous school when attending 6th grade for having long hair and people ended up mistaking me for a girl >.> after that I've kept my hair short to medium long length (I realized I much preferer it that way anyways because it was a pain to maintain due to my hair being curly and still somewhat is). Nowadays I don't really care, I wear clean clothes, don't really care that much about how they look as long as they're comfy to wear. I comb my hair in the morning but that's really for my own hygiene more than what anyone else thinks (though with the nature of my hair it'll be messed up by the end of the day anyways :p) and also trimming my eyebrows because for some reason they grow really fast and I don't think anyone ever has pulled off having a unibrow and I have no intention of trying. Basically though, that's just normal stuff everyone does I'd guess.

I guess the only thing I'll admit I'm somewhat self concious about right now is my overbite. It's pretty big and It's something a lot of people have mentioned since I started middle school, even friends of mine so I try to conceal it somewhat but that doesn't help much, hence a reason I'll be getting braces within the next month or so. Overall though no, I don't really care much about how I or others look. But I do care about personal hygiene.

In general I couldn't care less about my appearance at school. I'd just pick the shirt, hoodie and jeans on top of the pile and rock out with that. Not like I had a lot of variety in the colors of clothing I wore anyway. Mainly blue and black, and on occasion red or grey. I always wear jeans (even during summer ) so there wasn't really any variety there.

I was however rather conscious about my facial hair for a year or two. I was starting to grow a thick mustache around the age of 12-13 and while I didn't care about the teasing at school (in fact I always just went along with it ) I did sort of feel out of place when I was around the guys of my age. Then again the guys in the higher years thought it was cool and that did make me feel more comfortable with it and eventually got me over it. I think my main issue was that I was the first of my year to really grow facial hair and so we were all inexperienced with shaving and the likes. It's funny too because a few years later the guys from my year were having the same exact problem I was having back then.

PacmanandMariofan :   I never cared what I looked like, and was often picked on for my looks.  I lived in an average sized town in west Texas.  Hateful "christians" who were afraid of anything they were not.  Don't get me wrong, I love everyone and I harbor no ill will towards them, but it was a very rough 4 years.  Here is a pic of Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein to show you what style I wore my hair back in the late 90's

Well since I have to wear a uniform to school no body cares about what clothes you are wearing because we are wearing the same thing for the most part. It is really only hair that people care about. I myself have never combed my hair and it sits fine so I haven't really cared all that much.

Well when I was still in school I cared a lot about what I wore to school and wearing make up and stuff. Some days I was too tired to put on make up though so I had to go without. I can't say I really cared much of what people thought of me because everyone loved to bully back then so it's whatever.

When I was in school, I didn't care on what I wear. What I normally do is just grab a random shirt, a random pair of jeans, and put on my socks and shoes and go on with my day.

Other than clothing, I did care about my hair and facial hair, I spike my hair up (if my hair get's too long that it's hard to spike, I get it cut) and keep my goatee, but anything else, nope.

It honestly depends on if I'm really feeling it or not. I do on ocassion, but other than that, it all really depends. I don't know, I'm weird like that.

I didn't used to care, but since losing a lot of weight (57 pounds so far) I've been thinking about what I wear to university. I tend to wear a flannel shirt, t-shirt, jeans and trainers. I guess I'm self conscious about acne but that's going down now and it's rarely on show.

Edit: typo fixed
