Alright, I made a thread like this a while ago, but I wanted to dive a little deeper into this and make it sound more like a question and less like a sugar-coated statement with smiley faces everywhere.

Many times I've seen users with Friends Lists that were pretty big remove literally EVERY single user except for, what, 10?

I have a question: what is up with that? I'm not naming anyone here, and I'm not saying that everyone with a tiny Friends List thinks this way, but to those of you who do, why is it so "cool"? Is there a trend I'm missing here? "Remove the people you talk to a little less often than others so people go, 'Gee, what high standards this classy person must have!'"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is
no way that many people have suddenly had a reason to remove so many people from their Friends Lists lately "just because."

I'm not whining because someone removed me (that didn't happen, and it wouldn't even matter if it did); I'm just trying to figure out what's so cool about having so few people you consider "Friends" all of a sudden when you used to have so many more. Have that many people suddenly become nasty? Sounds like awful luck. I'd love to hear about it.

So, why do so many people no longer deserve a sign that you appreciate them? Indulge me.

Hmm....it actually depends kimmy. I mean I haven't changed mine for a while now last time it was years. Both tornado and I agreed if a certain user doesn't really talk to you anymore and doesn't even say why we take them off which is fair in a way. While some others don't really want to change theirs or other people do. some people or most like to be picky with their friends list which makes it comfortable for them. People like to do things how they like it in a way. My reason not to change mine so much is to remember my past friends. I don't want to forget them. Also with me I told you that I have a short term memory so...I hope that kind of answers your question.

As someone who has mass removed friends in the past, I don't do it for any other reason than to remove people who I don't consider as "friends".

Sometimes, I'll add random people who add me, and give them fun titles, sometimes I'll just put them as bland online friend, because it makes them happy to feel like they are my friend, but then there are times when I'm just like "I only want my friends to be on my friends list".

Ultimately, for me, it just boils down to whether I consider someone a friend.

I personally don't care that much about my friend list. I have some users in high regards and I respect them the same way they respect me, but still I don't take the step to add them as friends. I interact with them enough through the forums, and it's noticeable when you don't need to summon them to your threads because they already "stalk" you on their own and know the thread has been created.

As Eniitan has said, a lot of people think about their friend list containing people that actively talks. I'm not a big fan of writing into other people's profiles unless there's a good reason for it, so under that statement, my friend list shall remain tiny forever more. I'm not someone who will go and say "What's up?", because if there are any important news, most probably they will have their own thread in Post About Yourself, so I simply have to go there, check it out and reply what needs to be said.

I will add any person that has previously added me, be it known or random. Random people will always be listed as online friend, but known people will have their own title. I find very unlikely I will ever remove someone, unless there's a good reason for it, and a mere "You don't talk to me anymore" isn't a good reason for me.

I've done this kind of thing a couple times before. In fact I did it a couple weeks ago. Users do this because:

-the people they remove are barely on vizzed
-the people they remove show no interest in communicating often
-the people they remove are perma-banned
-the people they remove are bad influences

Those are only some reasons, and they're the reasons that I removed 10+ users off my friends list.

I think people may do it after randomly adding people in the past and not having talked to said people since they added them so they don't really consider them friends.

I kind of the do the same. I don't mass remove friends, I don't think I've removed more than maybe 10 people at a time, and basically every time it's been because I've barely talked to the person and it was ages since I last talked to them since I'll often randomly add people after talking with them. It's something I do pretty rarely though (hence why it'll be more than just 1 or 2), too lazy to constantly manage and update it. As for who I actually consider close friends on here, well I feel like I don't need to constantly show that off from my friends list as I think those people would already be aware themselves.

Really I'd call my friends list overall more of an aquintance list

I would also say that it depends. Some people might have started getting into the site and just accept friend requests from anyone just so that they can get to know more people. As time goes on, those people may no longer talk to them or never actually develop that type of friendship in the first place, so it gets pointless.

Some people do use their friendslist to show who their friends on vizzed are, or they want to label them to a specific characteristic. Then there are some people who just don't care and just accepts anyone.

It goes the same way with social media. There are people who would just delete people from their friends list because someone really don't talk to each other anymore to be considered friends.

NintendoFanKimmy :

I keep wanting to do exactly this, because the people I talk to on this list are already so small.

Then I think about it and realize I talk to each of them at least once a month, or did something with them for a period of time which made them really worth calling a friend, and I still do.

Some come, some go. I only hope that others view me in the same way. I would have a lot smaller friends list if I felt I could, and I can understand the thinking behind it. The problem is, it doesn't seem right, so I don't do it.

I do consider carefully who I call a friend though.

I used to have a good amount of people on my friends list, but they begin to show little interest in communicating with me and started to act differently towards me. I felt as if I disappointed them in a way. Over time we just became more and more distant from one another until eventually I removed them.

I delete people off my friends list if I don't really consider them as friends. I don't really "mass remove" people, the most people I've removed at a time is 5? And there are several reasons why I'd remove someone.

-I friended them because they friended me (and we had some interaction before the request), but we never really formed a bond.
-We were friends, but that person made it so that we weren't friends anymore. Only two people so far has reached that point, and I have like, 44 friends on my list at the time I'm typing this? It takes a while to get to that point.

Those are the only two reasons really.

I guess sometimes people want to make their friends list more prestigious, or have only really close friends on their list. I generally show that by the A+ friend list. Which I forget to update a lot XD.

I haven't really touched my friend list for like months. But why people remove their friends is all the reasons PacmanandMariofan said, mostly there is a big reason why, mostly if they're not active anymore and/or if they always breaks the rules. I have remover a couple, but that's mostly it.

I once removed a lot of people from my friends list in an attempt to make it more exclusive, and therefore more rewarding to be on (how conceited, lol). That attempt took me from 60-something to 43, so it obviously wasn't successful.

Now, I just add/remove people for the reasons expressed already. If I consider someone a friend, they're on my friends list. Also, I added all the mods onto my friends list, so I can more conveniently stalk keep track of threads I should be seeing.

David hasn't PM'd me in five months! I'm unfriending him!

Seriously though, I don't buy the idea that people remove those who don't talk to them often so long as they still have David on their list, because honestly how many of us can David really take the time to talk to leisurely? I'm guessing maybe five? And odds are, you (mass unfriender who is reading this) are not one of them.

Oh gosh...I'm being too honest. Please, suffer me a plain spoken, honest post, just this once. I promise I'll go back to my sweet and meek self again afterwards.

I honestly wonder if some don't do it to make a point: "Put other things ahead of talking to me, will you? Unacceptable! I'm more important than your staff work, mod duties, work, or, ya know, real life". *removes you*
Eeyup. I can totally understand that. We call that pouting where I'm from. -__- Funny thing...I don't often care that much. I mean, I hate to be disowned by anyone, but if my friendship means that little to you, then I guess I misjudged how close we were to begin with. Better I know it now, right?

And honestly, 90% of my friends list is just add backs to keep from being an elitest or from upsetting others. I mean, why should I not add someone if they plainly request to be on my list by adding me? I'm not anything special after all. They're as good as I am, and I want to come across as thinking such. But that's just me. I'm not criticizing those who don't return random adds, because I'd never dare be so arrogant as to assume I'm always right and my way is the only right way. Normally I wouldn't have to clarify that, but after this post most of you will be wondering how well you know me after all. xD

I do think that a lot of people do it to make it seem like their friends list is exclusive and elite. Honestly though, the Vizzed friend list is meaningless, why make it more than it is? I don't know, maybe it's just over my head.

But it saddens me how people mass remove users like this because sometimes you mean more to others than you know, and one day they pop over to your profile to say hi, and are genuinely hurt to see they've been removed. Been there, done that. Again, not that being on the list does anything special, but it can hurt when someone you're even the slightest bit fond of decides they don't want anyone thinking they're your friend. If you're done talking to them, there are more humane ways to go about it.

But anyway, that's my two cents. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to spread extra rainbows and sunshine so I can make up for this uncharacteristically plain spoken post.

*leaves two rainbows and extra pudding*

I only remove people if they remove me. There has only been a couple of times I removed somebody who still had me added and it was mainly personal reasons or the friendship went really bad. I like to change my friends list around though but I never delete people really.

For me at least I have stopped using to friends list over two years ago or so now, I mean I'll add a IRL friend if they join the site. But that's it. If I consider you a friend you're pretty likely to know it already. But ultimately the friends list itself has just become irrelevant in my life. Not like it serves any purpose other than to show other people your own social circle. And meh. That's just not useful to me.

For me, my friend list is either actual friends, acquaintances, and then random people I friended back. The most people I've removed was probably around 5 at a time. And that's because I honestly didn't remember the people I unfriended. Or those random add backs, but then it turns out they haven't been on the site in months now.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.
