Mortal Kombat II 10-01-14 11:13 PM

Why Mortal Kombat II for 32X is better than the SNES version
I'm going to start this review by talking about the SNES and Genesis versions of MKII. Many people believe the SNES version to be superior, but if you really get into both versions the Genesis version has one extremely enormous advantage. It controls better, plain and simple. MKII has many combos to pull off and the SNES version's timing is just slightly off or slow and makes it much harder if not nearly impossible to pull of the difficult ones. The Genesis version on the other hand moves much more fluidly and the characters respond to commands faster making combos much more like the arcade version. I believe that all of this is due to the faster processor in the Genesis, while the slower one in the SNES causes its version to be clunkier. Does the SNES version look better? yes. Does the SNES version sound better? yea. But if you are really devoting some time to get good at the game the Genesis version comes out on top because the characters do what you want them to do.
Now lets get into the meat of this review and compare the 32X MKII with the SNES MKII. As to which one looks better is probably the thing at which they are most equal. They both look great. The 32X add-on allowed the Genesis to display many many more colors on screen at once (I believe even surpassing the SNES), Allowing the Genesis to rival the graphics of the SNES version if not surpass them. There is a certain sheen to the SNES graphics that make determining which is actually the best looking one a rough choice.
In almost every other aspect the 32X version is best. The control aspect I described earlier carries over seamlessly into the 32X version if not being even slightly more responsive. It really makes the SNES version feel so unresponsive.
The Genesis was never known for good sound but the extra power of the 32X add-on really helps achieve an almost arcade perfect sound track. ... Read the rest of this Review

Street Fighter Collection 09-30-14 10:36 AM

Street Fighter Collection Sega Saturn Fighting at its best
I've been playing Street Fighter II since it popped up in a convenience store down the street from where I lived in Houston, TX sometime around 1990 and fell in love immediately. I have played almost all console versions of it and I can say without a doubt that The Street Fighter Collection for the Sega Saturn is among the best if not the best home version of Street Fighter II "The New Challengers".
The graphics are amazing for their time. The Internet seems to believe that Soul Caliber for the Dreamcast was the first time a true arcade experience was brought to the home consoles. Well, after playing this game I must disagree. All the backgrounds are there with full animation the characters move fluidly and respond on a dime. The sound effects all seem to be there and in great quality. It captures the arcade experience almost completely but with loading screens which could not be avoided at the time.
This game can be very addictive if you like fighting games. There are countless combos to be pulled off and if you crank the speed of the game up in the options menu you can make this game insanely hard or slow it down to make it easier. I gave it a 7 overall because even at slow speeds you have to have some skill to defeat your opponents especially the later ones, though you can jack it up to 10 using the speed setting as I mentioned before but alas there is no varying option. All of this also adds to the depth of the game.
Each character does have a story but they are all pretty straight forward and not too in-depth. It is stuff like you killed my father I want revenge. Or I want to be the best fighter in the world. Or I gotta end your tyranny, I think you get the idea here.
All in all this is a great version of Street Fighter II and I highly recommend checking it out if you like fighting games or if you are looking into trying them. The varying difficulty makes it great for beginners as well as hard-core fighting gamers.
