As most people know, music is awesome and it can come from a variety of different things.

Ranging from a TV advertisement, to even a discovery on your friends facebook.  We'll all come across different ways to how we first discovered music.

So I'd thought I make a Poll about it and ask you, the people of vizzed, how did you discover music?

Anyways for me: I discovered music from the radio, I believe the first song I heard was "Dead or Alive" and I liked it, it was an instant classic imo.

Note if this is a dupe or not allowed, feel free to close it.

Believe I also discovered music through radio. Unfortunately, I can't recall which song it was, though. Then again, there aren't too many radio songs I do know.

I discovered music on the radio. I don't think I started listening to music on the internet until I was in my teens. Before that, I always just listened to music on the radio.

My earliest memories of music are of my sweet collection of mini records with kid songs.  I played puff the magic dragon to death, but as for actual music I would sneak from my bedroom after my parents had sent me to bed and sit on the stairs listening to the love songs my parents would play as they talked about their day.  I distinctly remember Anita Baker's songs and to this day I enjoy listening to them with my wife.

Then again, I also remember my older sister rocking out to Debbie Gibson and "The Wild Thing"   I guess you've got to take the good with the bad.

I was always listening to music with my family, but eventually I used to become trapped in other peoples cars listening to music for hours at a time and that's when I started getting into it.

Yeah mine would be by radio I think? This would be when I was really young so my memory of that is a but fuzzy. Then second comes with music channels once I was well old enough to understand something from there. ^^

For me it is purely YouTube since I almost never listen to a radio at all. I listen to a lot of songs on YouTube so that's how I find them even though not many people do it like this.

When I was younger I listened to a lot of radio. I listened to it almost daily until I was about 13 (long blackout, never got back into the habit of listening).

So it was almost certainly that medium through which I discovered music. My first song was, I believe, YMCA. Given my young mind and the song's catchiness, I can probably thank the Village People for music "sticking" with me.

Actually, none of the options apply for me. I never actually discovered music because I was hearing it before I was born. My dad's a musician, so I've literally always been around it. It actually surprises a lot of people when I tell them I haven't any real preference to a kind of music, and that I don't actually listen to it much at all. I think I would come closer to learning to play an instrument than listen to it. Another thing that my dad finds odd (because he plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, etc.) is that I would rather learn to play classically oriented piano and strings (violin, viola, cello, etc.), flute or ocarina.

I usually listen to Sirius XM radio when I'm driving around, so that's where I find most of my new music. Occasionally I'll see something on Facebook or a friend will tell me about a new band, but that's kinda rare

Idk my first venture into music were racing games but when i really started liking music is when i took a Metallica cd from my dad and listened to it. After that I dug through this huge container of cds he had  and found many cool bands like Black Flag, The Cult, Ramones, People Haters, etc and was hooked on music.

The first music I heard was at home as a kid. My mother had a huge LP-collection and I think she showed me some of her favorites.

When I first started discovering music on my own was when I got my own CD-player with built in radio. I listened to the radio everyday from then on and I discovered new artists all the time. I used to listen to Swedish music and artists but when the radio station I always listened to shut down I discovered a new one. That's when I found out about rock music, which to this day still is my number one genre of music.

I just looked up songs that I really liked hearing on the car radio, and expanded from there. And sometimes I just really liked some songs from games and looked them up later.
In general I just keep remembering songs from the radio, or going off of recommendations, and finding things I think might be good. And for that reason I stalk the threads in which people post music.

My mom had a huuuge collection of CDs. It was mostly late 80s to early 90s pop and rock. There was always a radio playing them somewhere in our house. So that was pretty much all I listened to for most of my childhood.

When I got older and discovered the internet, that's where the rest of it came from. About 99% of the music I listen to now is downloaded from Itunes or ripped.

Well video games, radio and my parent's music were all ways I found out about music. I'm not sure which was the one that helped me to discover music but I do know that these are all things I listened to in my early childhood. When I was around 6, I would listen to a bunch of Maroon 5 which is the first band I ever loved music by, to my memory. My first CD was Keith Urban's "Golden Road" which I got when it was a new album, again when I was 6. And I would sing all the songs in the house and sing them to my mom. I was 6 so please don't make fun of me, it took a lot of courage to confess this to complete strangers so please don't judge me.

The first music I heard was either in church as we sang hymns or the music they played at the skating arena or swimming pool as we learned our basic recreation skills.

I did not become much of a music fan until I was allowed my own clock radio. Listened to music late into the night. The following birthday, my parents got me a Five-Disc CD player that could automatically rotate to another disc after it finished with one or not do that if I hit repeat. Then I started buying CDs.

Many of the lyrics in the songs that resonated with me normalized abnormal behavior. My resulting adaption of these began to play out in my life at school, home, youth group and pretty much anywhere that I was. I guess I missed out on a lot of opportunities to make friends at crucial point in my life where I would struggle because I didn't have any.

I still like music and adore clever lyrics but a lot of the turd they play on the Top 40 stations these days are quite a bit worse of an influence on young impressionable people than the 90s to 2004 music was on me. Every time I hear the lyrics "take your clothes off!", I want to throw my radio across the room because I know kids just as young as I was are listening and might think(due to the constant hypnosis of overplaying that song) that it is a fine idea to take their clothes off for the first person that asks. The songwriters just don't take into account the moral implications of what they are saying when their music comes into constant contact with young people. Their idea is to come up with the catchiest things that will sell, regardless of the influence it has. For that reason, the mass marketed music industry (including youtube, radio, satellite radio, music videos, television music channels, iTunes, stores with CDs, records, tapes) cracks the top five of the most corrupting influences on society.

I have pretty early memories of enjoying music, from around age 3. My parents would play 80s and 70s hits, I remember dancing around our house when they played cassette tapes. So my first exposure to music was definitely my parents tape collection. Growing up my siblings and I were always using our Little Tykes cassette player. We played tapes on that thing constantly until it gave up one day. Another really early memory of me enjoying music was watching musical movies like The Beauty and the Beast.

These days I usually get the best music recommendations from my friends.
