So I just returned home after receiving my high school diploma.
The immediate thing that went in my mind was "Now what?". High school's over, I don't need to get on my bike at like 7:30 AM anymore.

I've been studying Latin for a while now, and because of that people keep bugging me to become a doctor and go to college to study like 6 more years. I study Latin because it interests me and I enjoy it, not because I want to cut open bodies and all that stuff. On top of that, we can't afford 6 more years of college. It's simply not do-able.

So I ask myself, is college really necessary to get a
good job? With the high demand of other jobs, I've heard that you're much more likely to find something in that group, even with just a high school diploma. A lot of them really aren't as bad as people think.

All of this makes me miss high school already, heh.

That's amazing! Congratulations, Furret!

I wouldn't know about jobs and college. Frankly I'm going to be in your position next year around this time. lol
My sister has been taking Latin also. I had no idea you knew it too. I only know like...4 words in Latin though. lol But I can totally understand not wanting to LIVE at a school for 6 more years right after you've graduated High School. I hope you end up finding the job you want.

Furret : Awesome job on completing Highshool!(or if you want to be a normal teen "Hell") I've also studied Latin for a about 4 years and I'm glad to see someone else enjoys it. And hopefully in the future you can find the job you love and can easily accomplish so good luck!

Furret : Congrats on completing high school! Same like these guys, I have no clue about college nor do I have the interest or the desire to go to it, so don't ask me about things on that matter

Hey Furret. Congrats on getting your diploma. Hope you wind up in a good, fun job. I personally decided to skip college and just go to work myself. Didn't have a choice in my situation tho. Had to work and support myself. If I could have gone to college .... I most likely would have. Just because jobs do look favorably on that college education. I got told by a couple of friends that run businesses that they could care less if people applied with them that had degrees or whatever. They always told me as long as the high school diploma is there then your at least smart enough to learn the job and something about not having to pay as much, etc...

Well-done on getting your diploma and I am somewhat in your situation. I could leave high school now and take a course in college that may get me into University or I could stay in school for my last year and try to get better qualifications. So many options!

Furret : Hey Furret! Congratulations on a memorable event of completing high school or graduating from high school, but if you really want a good paying job, you will hear that college degrees give a person much more income for their job each year than someone without a college degree. The income you get supposedly increases dramatically, the more effort and time you put in getting a degree. For example, a doctorate's or a master's degree will net you more money for the same job than a bachelor's or associate's degree. Then a bachelor's or associate's degrees will net you more money than a person without a degree, but less money than someone with a doctorate's or master's degree. You could also go get a certificate that will pay some money and probably be the less costly option to some jobs than getting an associate's degree in college. You would get the certificate at college too if you want to get a certificate than a college degree (associate, bachelor, master, doctorate). I am about to finish my Associate's degree this year, so I will start going to a university next year for a bachelor's degree and hopefully I will have a lot of luck in performing through the universities classes. College is just like high school, but even better because you don't have to be in school as long as you are in high school for one day, but good luck to you Furret and hopefully you find something you like to do with enough income to support yourself throughout life at least that is what I am going to college for is to get a job I like and increase my earnings enough to where I can support myself considerably well. Oh and another thing you will hear is that employers will consider your application more if you go to college or get a degree in college. Well I had a friend in my Accounting college class and he said he had a friend who just had an associate's degree. His employer for a job that his friend was looking for considered him since he had a degree and hired him for a job that he didn't even get his degree in college for, so that shows you how college degrees can influence the employers to give you a job even when you don't have a college degree for that job. All I got to say is lucky son of god ! lol

Furret : Congrats Ian! I got my diploma in May and I'm already taking a summer class I got for free. I think there are many jobs that don't require a doctoral degree. In fact, my dad has only an associates but makes 100K a year as a semi driver at UPS. Do what interests you because you could always get a student loan even if that is costly.

Furret : Welcome to the wonderful life of pos-Graduation. Where you don't have to worry about school anymore and look at the life ahead of you. Some might say that after you graduate, your life starts going downhill, it isn't really true although it does slowly happen overtime, but for right now, you got no worries.

At the mean time, enjoy the freedom of not forcing yourself to get up early in the morning.

I know I'm late on this, but congratulations to your graduation from high school! As for your question on college or no college. I really depends on what career you are looking into. There are certain jobs that require an abundance of skill, while others require an abundance of knowledge. The knowledge part is what most people need to go to college for. College is also the place that you can get connections with professors and people in those fields. Most importantly, college is for people who want to learn. That's the ultimate thing. It is a place for those who want to continually learn and the major is not suppose to be about what jobs you want to get, but about what subject you want to learn and get in a bachelor level.

A huge congrats to you on graduating high school and earning your diploma! I don't think you have to do college to get a good job, but I think it'll be hard to get a job with great pay without going to college. Good luck getting it all worked out.

Congrats dude, welcome to your first few years of pain. It's not really that bad actually, well aside for the pain. But you'll get uses to it. Enjoy the summer as much as you can because once that ends, everything is going to really change for you and I wish you the best of luck.

Félicitations mon cher (sorry, I don't speak Flemish if it is your first language). As for your future: it all depends on your interests. I'm not familiar with the Belgian scholar system, but in Canada and the US there are many technical schools where, in about 2 years or less, you can learn to be - or rather, awaken your inner talent - an architect, hairdresser, electrician, plumber, etc. These are usually well-paying job that won't get you indebted over your head.

Now, if like me you have no manual dexterity whatsoever, then yes college is the way to go. With the EU, you might actually be able to at least get a bachelor degree for nothing or for very cheap. If you master more than your native language then you could move to another country and study there.

Furret : Congrats on graduating High School. I know I am late to the party, but I wanted to give you credit for a great life accomplishment.

I personally would recommend college. Learn as much as you can while you are still young and can get a better idea on what sort of career you want to work in for the rest of your life. I have never once regretted the fact that I went to college and it helped me gain contacts and friends that I still have years later that have helped me in my life and my career.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
