Whether or not it is often, do your parents play video games? Of course many of your parents have played Atari or NES or whatever when they were younger, but do they play nowadays (at least once a month)?

I used to play Donkey Kong Country 2 with my mom... that never worked out. Never play a platformer with your mom. She of course never plays now, and I don't think she did when she was my age, though my grandma on my mother's side does have a Super Nintendo and my aunt on my mother's side is pretty good at DKC. That also means my grandma plays Super Nintendo every once in awhile.

My dad, on the other hand, plays XBOX 360 and has gold membership. He used to play it almost every day, but now it's only two or three times a month. He plays racing games, Portal 2, and a few other games like Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, and Fable III. He used to play Skyrim a lot too, so I guess he likes open world games a lot.

How about your parents?

My mom has played games on the DS and Gamecube when I was younger, but she didn't play much. All I remember her playing is Animal Crossing. While she is not my parent, my grandma was a huge gamer back then. Her main hobbies were playing Gamecube and Playstation. Eventually, she got older, and staring at the screen was making her feel sick, so she stopped playing.

It feels like my parents never played video games.  I mean, I can distinctly remember them playing the SNES with us kids, and I remember my dad at one point playing a few computer games..... but it FEELS like they never did.  It's nearly impossible for me to imagine my parents picking up any type of console or even admitting that they ever did.  They quickly grew out of them and are more likely to give disapproving looks about adults playing video games. ha!

In fact, I actually remember my dad giving long rants about games in which you role-play.  When he first told me there were games in which people took on 'invented lives', his voice was so full of contempt that I've never, ever told him they are my favorite kind to play.  LOL  I actually didn't discover that until many years after his rant, but it was so passionate that it's always stuck with me.

You're reading a post from a father that plays video games. My oldest son is 12 and we can discuss almost any aspect of gaming. However, he's really big into Pokemon and discussing that franchise absolutely bores my to tears. He's my boy though and I'd lovingly listen to him talk about pulling the wings off of insects if I had to. What's important to him is important to me.

When I was growing up my dad used to play Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt on the NES. He really liked Duck Hunt but used to lament about SMB because of how it was always left to right and that it seemed to be the only point of the game. Getting to the right. Today, my dad is good for a board game and on Christmas last year I saw him play Wii Sports. He liked bowling the best.

I never saw mom play one game when I was a kid. Not even an arcade game at my 7th birthday party. However, now she plays some version of Frozen Candy Crush on her iPad every day. She even spends real money to buy upgrades, extra men and extra time.

I told my dad about my mom playing "candy Crush" and spending money on it (they're happily divorced for almost 20 years now.) and he and I had a nice little discussion about ways to make a profit being a game developer. He seemed to think that the best idea for profitability was to give the gamers something that they felt like they couldn't live without (like oxygen) and then take it away and make them pay for a new supply. My father loves dollar signs and I'm more like him everyday.

My mom plays way to much to Tetris. She mostly just plays puzzle games on her and my stp-dad's XBOX 360.
As for my Dad, he used to play with me when I was still in elementary school. Now, he might play with my little brother or me if I am visiting if he is bored of just wants to have to have some family time if he doesn't have anything else to do. But, for the most part, my Dad does not play many video games anymore.

Allow me a bit diversion here to discuss my direct family's love of the video games as they have always been a big part of my life. I've known people that make games, and I lived through pretty much all the home console eras.

I have always been a big time gamer. My parents divorced before I had any memory of them together, and neither played games.  My dad lived in the country, and way rustic - he didn't even own a tv!  I was always a urban tech kid though, and lived with my mom. Once or twice I would cajole her play a two-player video game, but you could tell she wasn't into that. Once in the 80's, when Tetris for Gameboy was the fad, she did play a bit of that. But it was shortlived. And her time as second player Luigi in Super Mario Bros for the NES was often in the bottom of a pit. She remarried, and my step-father (at the time, now not) was pretty big into games. We played all sorts together - fighters, platformers - just not RPGs, he wasn't into those, but I was.

My stepbrother is just into games as much as me, although our tastes often run different due to our age difference. He's into Fire Emblem, Smash Brothers, and neither of those interest me, so we often don't play as much as we used to when we were younger (as a young'un, he had me play Kirby Super Star on the SNES with him about 100 times. And its a fun game, I don't mind).  With my brother still in the house, my mom still doesn't play video games now.

My wife plays games, but is more casual, though some like Azure Dreams can rope her in to play studiously. I actually don't think I would have married anyone if she didn't have at least a little love for video games, lol. She had a NES/Super NES when I met her, and we have very fond memories of SNES Zelda.

I am a dad. My only child was born with special needs, and I am unable to pass down my love of old-school NES/SNES/what have you  video games with her. There exists special controllers for motor function and occupational therapy type hand movements needed- but her mental state is not one she could understand the rules of a game. She does do a little bit, like on her Ipad, there is some simple touch games she is able to enjoy, and that's something. Some games she will watch - she used to watch first person games for awhile. But maybe someday we will play a nice game together.

My parents don't.

They're TV watchers, but they've never gotten into gaming.

I don't really care either way.

I find some TV shows really engaging, so I sort of understand their point of view.

My dad does, but my mom doesn't. My dad plays quite a few exploration games or such, but he can't handle anything first-person. Even just a small amount can make him throw up, which is weird imo.

Sadly, neither of my parents do. My mom doesn't really like video games at all. My Dad is indifferent... I have tried to get him into some of the games I have, but he has no real skill or interest in them. They used to play the arcade versions of Donkey Kong and Mario, maybe some others, but for years they haven't even touched a console.

My dad plays video games, although he's not a video game addict, he still loves it and plays while me and my siblings watch him. Most of my first consoles were actually from him. He also introduced me to PSP.

My mom likes playing the Nintendo DS and 3DS. She really likes the games like Brain Age and Professor Layton. My dad is a hopeless case when it comes to games.

None of my parents play video games. My dad doesn't play video games now (even though he use to as a kid) because he simply doesn't have the time since he is always at work, and my mom has never really taken any interest in video games, she has always been the more bookish type I guess. She could care less about video games. For the most part, they are both pretty indifferent to the matter.

I don't really mind that my parents don't play video games as adults, although it would be quite interesting to see how different my life would be if they did.

My mom doesn't play video games while my dad does. He mainly plays PC games but sometimes he'll play console games.

My Mother does play video games, but not a whole lot though. Well, all she does play anymore is that Candy Crush game and anything else made by King, if you can even call it a game though. and also my Father, he's into those online gambling mumbo jumbo, but I think it's a free poker thing he's doing, but that's all he plays. So, you can surly say that both of my parents does play video games of somekind.

My dad is the person who got me into video games . When I was about 4 or 5, he introduced them to me. They were the coolest things ever. It was like a TV show, except you could decided how it was going to end up. It used to be the whole family playing. My dad, mom, brother, and I would all play. It was perfect because that's 4 people . Well, that was about 7 or 8 years ago... Now, my parents are divorced and I have a sister. My dad probably plays a video game every once in awhile, and my mom for sure doesn't play anything. I do know my parents used to both play video games when they were younger though, my mom with the Atari and my dad with the Nintendo 64 and GameCube . Peace .
