I was thinking about making it so that layouts don't show for Reviews and Walkthroughs. A lot of users have layouts that are meant for small posts so when a huge Review or Walkthrough is submitted using one of those layouts, it makes it very inconvenient for everyone to read.

What do you guys think of this?

Although my layout doesn't have an issue with this (my layout stretches) I'd say it's a smart move to do that.

I have all layouts disabled anyway, so I never notice this stuff happen (I got tired of all the crappy layouts on the site).

I'd highly recommend disabling layouts on reviews.

I really like that idea. Even though it may be a little punishing for users who uses good layouts for reviews, most of them doesn't really use layouts that are fit for reviews. I'd say it's a good idea anyways since it will help in most cases. 

I like this idea. Game reviews and walkthroughs are just about what the writer/presenter is saying through statements and details. I had a tough time to read some when some of the layouts were quite difficult and small.

I think personally, this would be a good idea, because the reason, their is a couple of users on here that has a small text box, and this can cause an issue with making reviews and walkthroughs, especially when I made reviews during my early years on Vizzed, it makes the words really hard to read.

So, having layouts removed for reviews and walkthroughs would help on the reader.

As local mods can get rid of layout and you can easily turn off a layout, I feel as though his would just be a lot of work for you.

And all the newbies and such who use these small layouts, don't make long posts. If it wouldn't take you long to do, I'd say go for it.

I like that idea. So many layouts have been eyesores that are painful to read 30 words off of, let alone a full review.

It won't be a problem for those who already have layouts disabled, but for those that do, it's a great idea.

agreed. I've never been a fan of layouts in general but when it comes to something like a review a small or poorly designed layout can make it painful to try and read through.

I like this idea. I go through, and I post a lot, so that means that I have to read a lot, to make sure I stay on topic. I have to admit, I don't post in newer threads with a small text box in the layout, because it seems to take so long to read. 

I'm fine with this, because there are quite a few reviews that are squished in tiny scroll boxes, or in layouts that are not readable at all.

i agree but i also Dissagree. If there is a layout that is like Leggy's, it needs to be activated but like mine, i have a box (not trying to be a idiot but it is true) Alot of my layout i make have boxes, or have one place to stay. 

I always thought it was a rule to turn your layout off before posting walkthroughs or reviews anyway, but I suppose I may be mistaken. Anyways, this sounds like a good idea to me.

I would be fine with this as well. I also remember hearing about what SUX2BU said. I'll turn my layouts off for making reviews and walkthroughs... It'll make it easier.

Question, just ones with text boxes (Like this one) or all layouts, should get turned off for reviews and walkthroughs?

Edit: I changed my opinion on this. I think that layouts as mine shouldn't be used in reviews etc. But ones like Blubcreator shouldn't need to be removed...

I agree with this. Layouts are meant to customize posts, but in reviews and walkthroughs we don't need customizations, we need readable posts. I just don't get why people won't preview their post to see if it's easily readable with their layout active.

I always disable my layout when posting my walkthroughs so....either way I am ok with this decision David.

My layout is one of those layouts not fit for reviews or walkthroughs, I don't disable my layout or anything. So I would say you should go ahead with it

I'm actually at odds with most people in this thread, as I'm against this idea. XD

The problem isn't with layouts... it's with people using layouts in the wrong way.  For example, I made a layout ESPECIALLY for my reviews.... It does not hinder or impede on long posts, and I think it makes reviews more interesting to look at.  I know a couple of other people have done this... and the results are always nice.

Besides, in all honesty, most reviews that are submitted are very, very short.  The people that take the time to write longer articles would face the consequences even though they are the minority.

I know it'd be a long stretch, but I'd honestly rather create a rule about the layouts that must be used for reviews and walkthroughs.  This could show up on a page before anyone starts or submits a review.  The 'prompt' could ask writers to disable their layouts before posting if they know their layouts will not work well with what they've written.

It's probably been said enough times but I thought I'd also give my opinion as to why I am completely for this idea.

Even generally and not for reviews I got tired of having to scroll sideways and down just to read a post. There are a few layout including mine that aren't an issue because it's not annoying, a large space for text and not a small one that fits 1 sentence and it stretches. I can think of a few people layouts as examples of ideal or acceptable ones in this thread like EideticMemory, geeorgee legacyme3 etc.

If we want to try and add a touch of professionalism to the reviews on the site then the best thing to do right off the bat would be to disable reviews. An annoying layout will just push people away from reading them.

I have layouts disabled anyways and if it were me I'd probably have it so each layout has to be approved. By approved I mean not just that it's appropriate but actually looks have decent. That could even give the layout manager something to do. I could be going a bit overboard but its just an idea.

To be honest, Davideo7 I am not trying to go against what you are thinking or anything, but I don't consider that to be a good Idea. Mainly because on my reviews I actually do want to see my layout on my post. I want to see my layout on every post I make including reviews. It just wouldn't seem right for me that I am making a post and my layout isn't there. Especially for others. I think others who really does like their layouts might want to see their layout on every post too.

I mean isn't that the point for a layout. To post and show epic pictures. Well I am just saying. I really don't like that idea, not to go against anyone on here, but for my own personal reasons. It just wouldn't feel right too me, sorry.

Davideo7 : well thats true but a lot of layouts now days have scrolling and don't do that if your decently good at making layouts it won't go invisible i think you shouldn't take layouts away or anything drastic like that just edit the code a bit thats all it takes
