As a new game developer, I'm curious about what causes you to suggest games to other people, if you do at all. So I ask, when you find a game that you like, do you tell your friends about it? If so, do you go as far as to actually recommend the game to them? There's a big difference between saying "I like Harvest Moon" and saying "You really need to try Harvest Moon. It's a really good game".

And at what point do you decide to go from saying that you like a game, to actually recommending that they buy it? For example, do you recommend they drop cash on every single game that you like? Or do you only recommend games to buy when you want to play it in multiplayer with them? Perhaps you recommend they buy it when it's one of your favorite current games? Whatever it is, I'm curious as to what motivates you to recommend a game to someone, and if price affects your decision to recommend the game at all.

I am that kind of gamer that if I like something, I will recommend it to a friend that is looking for a game. However, I have those friends that only like certain genres, or do not like particular genres, so I have had to learn to ask them what they like before I recommend a game to them.

I'm willing to recommend any good game to people, but I also try to recommend things that the other person(s) would like. On occasion, I might recommend that that person try something new, if they're willing.

For example, I love Guacamelee!. It's one of my favorite platformers. But my friend "Ryan" has never played a platformer before outside of Mario games and has little interest in the genre. I will recommend it to him anyways, but won't pressure him too much to play it.

I recommend games to my friend if they are games that I know he or I actually like, or if it is a type of game that I know he will most likely get into. We both have similar interests when it comes to video games, I would say that about 90 percent of the time I like a game, he likes it also.

I might also recommend him a game if he is just bored and he has already played through all of the games on his computer, or if he just tires of them.

I would never recommend him a physical game to buy if it is either, too expensive, inappropriate (because that is the last thing I need) or also if it isn't from a popular title and it isn't a game anyone has ever heard of.

I don't harass them to go buy the game the minute I have played it myself, but if my friends happen to ask, then I might just put it out there and say what I am playing, and usually they will follow up with "is it any good?" and then from there they will decide if they want to get the game for themselves which is different from me telling them to get it....I wouldn't want them to waste their money on a game if it isn't something that appeals to them.

I would only recommend games if there is a desire that they are looking for games. If they ask for a specific game that I know about or played, or if they have never heard of before, then I would recommend games to them. It doesn't really matter what genre they like or dislike, if they ask about it, I would talk to them about it

Honestly? Not really. There has to be some really specific circumstances for me to recommend games. I'll usually tell my friends about random games that I remember and show them a thing or two about it, but I never really recommend, just talk about them.

Personally, I would only recommend a game to a friend if it's possibly available to one another. There is a difference between recommending a game than actually playing it. Anyone can recommend something like for example, Mario Kart 8, but the truth is do people take that recommendation to consideration (in this case, owning a Wii U)? Another example like Team Fortress 2, is it possible to play it? One has a computer but the game has to run based on if a computer can handle it otherwise, it would be just a waste.
If a game is available to you whether it would be through money, console, emulator, or whatever it may be, then a game is worth suggesting.

Oh, I recommend games to people all the time, mostly because I have a lot of friends who do play games, and I would like to get them interested in some games that they would obviously never find out about because they are stuck in the mainstream... I show them some cool videos with gameplay or something to get them interested too, but the funny thing about it is that they say the games are cool, and that they can't wait to try them, but then they go ahead and buy COD, or some sort of Sports game. Tsk-Tsk.

None of my friends actually play video games, but my brother does, so I'll recommend stuff to him. We pretty much have the same tastes when it comes to gaming and we know what the other likes or looks for in games we want to play.

I generally only recommend a friend to BUY a game when I actually love the game. I've really only recommended 3 or 4 games to friends, but I have never really taken into account of what kind of game THEY like. Fortunately, my friends have generally the same interests in games, with the few outliers in choice. The most recent game I have recommended to friends is one that hasn't even come out yet: Destiny. I have been in love with it since it was first announced, so yeah.

Eirinn : What kind of game are you developing?

WorknAtTheCrwsh : We're making a collection of retro style games as our first game. They'll mostly be like old 8 bit games (NES, SMS, etc.), and will feature a few different classic genres like platformer and beat 'em up. Our next game after that will be a more modern style game. And we plan to release on Android, ios, and Steam. Don't be fooled by the Android and ios part though, they'll be serious gamer quality, not this "cut the rope" and "Fruit Ninja" Smart Phone stuff. We're shooting for games that you could actually believe were on an old console at some point.

sop281 : "some games that they would obviously never find out about because they are stuck in the mainstream" you just earned fifty cool points for that one comment. lol There are so many great games that are "off the beaten path" so to speak. Dare say most of the truly great games are.

Thank you to everyone who's replied. I've been surprised by some of these answers, so I'm really glad all of you replied.

Only to people who I know like video games already. I once had a friend who thought video games were stupid but I still tried to recommend kingdom hearts to them. They wouldn't give it a try at all. After trying with that friend I just eventually gave up recommending games to people that don't play them. It's not worth the effort to me anymore.

Usually I don't unless we start talking about the genre the game is in or something else relating to it in which case I might if the person hasn't played it. Though if it's a game I really, really like and I'm think about it I might recommend it either way. And if a person says they're looking for a game naturally I might recommend some to them after asking what kind of games they like.

Any good game that I enjoy to play, I sure will recommend it to my friends and other people. Many games I have recommended to them, like super Mario sunshine, they tried out, and all loved them, and are now frequent players. When recommending a game, I don't really care about what genres the people I am recommending it to like, just if i like it, I am pretty sure that they will too, so I recommend it to em and they normally try it out and love it.

I only recommend games that are absolutely spectacular and might apeal to them. Games with such a criteria have yet to be found by me, so i haven't recommended any games yet.

Of course I recommend a well made game to anybody.

I don't care if they only enjoy RPG's.  If I think "Mike Tyson's Punch Out!" is worth going back and giving it another run through, why would I try to bury that opinion?

Speaking of which, I do recommend to all of you an oldie but goody...  If you get a chance, go back and give "Super Mario Bros. 2" another try.

I realize that it's some rip off of some forgotten Japanese version that never was, but it truly is the most unique of the first three installments of the "Super Mario Bros." games on the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

There's no Goombas.  There's no Turtles.  There is no sign of a Bowser or his lame kids anywhere in sight.

This was a daring take on the Super Mario Bros. franchise, and in my opinion, it worked quite well.

I recommend games, but only to people who I think would be interested in it. If a friend likes RTS, but not shooters, I wouldn't recommend Battlefield... It is kind of like that. (I have an open mind on games, except when it comes to point & click games.)

Yes I actually do, I play a lot of weird, and out of the ordinary games, so when my friends want to try a game, they usually ask me what type of video game they should try or at least a specific genre they would like.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
