Simply put i'd love to get active on this site again, however there's a few things that are bugging me..

Like is there any point becoming active on a stie that seems like its dying faster than ever?
Are the users still as clicky as ever and trying to talk to them will be futile?
Will we ever get a working decent chat room again?


I have far more questions but for now i'll leave you with these three... Also i want this to be an open conversation... I'll be answering any replies and the such. 

Sonicmcmuffin : To put it bluntly, I think with me playing Overwatch with you guys now, I am pretty sure we'll talk enough on there lol Why talk on here when we can talk on there, right?

And as for the site "seemingly" dying ... I had also heard that a while ago. I am not usually active very much on here, but I have been lately since the activity has gone done. Its sort of a "trying to do my part" kind of thing I guess lol

But you can talk to me any time you want and I promise I will reply to you on a regular basis. I love it when people send me a message on here. It makes me feel popular.

I'm stuck in between yes and no on this question myself.

Watching Vizzed's activity drop off during this year has been painful. Seeing multiple days in a row where we are getting less than 100 posts per day is sad. This TdV has helped the activity a bit but not tons.

There is a working chat.... it's a discord server. I don't love it but there are people there and occasionally people talk .

Users will always be clicky no matter where you end up.

It's really up to you though. We would welcome the activity and it might encourage others to return and/or stay but if you don't enjoy posting the don't. Simple as that to me.

MattyIce : Yeah naturally, We're more likely just to chat on there and actually have fun, than to discuss it on here. 

It's been happening for a couple of years but its actually now being addressed by David that its actually a huge issue now. 

Naturally it's not like i'm doing much these days except gaming anyways. 

I just recently got back to the site. It's sad to see the activity going down, but still I find some post everyday to check out and post in. So the guys who are active here makes worth while to check the site out. Hope someday in the future the activity goes back up to the golden days.

geeogree : Yeah the TDV will help a little bit with the posting activity but i feel the month after that is gonna be the worse so far, as people might be just taking a break from posting...

I'm fully aware of the discord server, but in my honest opinion all it's really doing is stopping people from communicating on here and being active.

Naturally, I don't really have anything else to say on the clicky part lol.

As for posting it isn't something that i dislike, just most of the time i find it hard to reply to what's usually being posted. Well without coming across as an ass anyways.  Because even though people ask questions, they still don't like it when you answer them sometimes, because its not the answer they wanted

I WIn Also : Honestly speaking the site will probably never return to the "golden days". I think it'd be better to aim for a target such as "Making vizzed viable financially". Because if the site starts making a drastic loss financially, it wont be around for much longer after that.

It seems like a lost cause at this point. Being active on this site leaves you with very little to do.  For me, there is nothing to do after logging in and checking the new posts page.
People are still clicky, but in the past, there were a ton of other people you could talk to.
Chat isn't coming back unless Vizzed gets an influx of new users.

I can only see two ways of Vizzed going back to what it was. If a lot of the old members suddenly become active again. Or if Vizzed gets advertising or shoutout from a popular video game influencer.

Sonicmcmuffin : yeah.... people don't want honesty they want sugar coated answers that make them feel good.

I'm hoping that next month doesn't suffer too much from TdV jet lag but it will.

And the discord is kind of dead anyway and only like 20 people are ever on it. I've never understood attaching a chat room to a forum anyway. Isn't the point of a forum to make posts and a chat room sort of eliminates the need for threads....

It won't ever be the same. I'm sad about it because of how fun it was to post on here, but with each time I come back on here I remember how different my tastes grew from everybody else who posts here, and how little I can relate or even reply to any of the topics here.

I wish it could be the way it was when I was 13 years old but that's just out of reach.

alexanyways : I understand how you feel but I think you would be surprised if you tried making some threads. There might be more people who are interested in the same things you are but also don't make threads about those things. Just a thought.

Just after being here for 12 years the site has changed a LOT and I've managed to enjoy my time here in spite of that.

ever since I stepped down my activity has dropped like a rock. even as a local I wasn't really the most active but I don't know, vizzed has lost its charm to me. I used to check in every day but that's slowly been going from every couple days to weeks to maybe once or twice a month. it doesn't seem like many people except the higher ups care too much to contribute to the site, and (to my fault) that affects me too and I just don't really care much to check in besides the fact I have friends here and the occasional nostalgic factor. I hardly even hear about new members making it into "popularity" or whatever and I feel like it's just most members come and leave after a short period of time.

I don't know if I need some sort of incentive besides weird steam games to contribute and earn Viz or something completely new and different. this site does hold a lot of my past and I don't like seeing it lose activity this much either, and I try to help now and then but now in the end I feel like it's a lost cause.

earthwarrior : Yeah, it is looking that way but I would rather just try to enjoy the site whilst it is still around, as much as I like to moan and complaining about certain things I have still been registered for over 7 years now.. And there is some users who have been here for over a decade, I do not even think a popular person shouting out the website will help much at all.

geeogree : Well yes, but it also had an influence for people to remain active on the site. Its very easy to stay in a chat conversation on the site and just casually browse through the threads or look at a thread that someone else linked into the chat. It probably is pointless now but it would alt least feign an active user base here

alexanyways : It happens, I think I was lucky in the sense I registered when I was 18 so id already matured at that point, but i will be honest it was fun goofing with the younger teens because well they were very goofy and funny

Minuano : Indeed, as much as people state that staff members are only posting because they have to it still adds posts for people to reply to and to be interested in. I never understood why it went down to such a few number of mods but that is just my opinion, heck i would step up and ask to be one myself but i dont have the greatest of reputations with the people deciding. so it seems rather fruitless. 

It's going to be an answer only you can determine for yourself.

I feel like, personally speaking, no, there is no point.

A friend of mine once said this quote and I think it still holds true: "You end up here when it's better than where you are at." My life, at present, is pretty awesome, mostly. I have my life mostly where I want it, and sticking around here has actively been more of a negative effect on my morale, than a positive, which is why I've been relatively inactive, even by my recent standards, despite a giant boost in activity from everyone on the 22nd.

It doesn't help that I feel isolated from the community. Maybe I isolated myself, or maybe I didn't, but it no longer feels like as welcoming a place, unless you fit into a very specific mold of user. I've never been the type that can fit a mold. And maybe that's a perception issue, but perception is reality, and no one has really taken the time to help change my perception in a meaningful way.

I want to stick around, because this place helped me through a very difficult time in my life (and thus, I feel indebted in a sense to see it through), but the day seems past where it can be of use to me. It's like high school in a respect. Once you graduate, you don't go back unless it's for a reunion, and even then, only to talk to people that you barely like to begin with. Anyone you actually like, you've kept in touch with, both post-high school, and post-Vizzed.

I don't know. I've spoken with geeo about this a ton in recent weeks, and it's becoming a question that's harder to ignore with each passing day. I don't know why I'm actually posting here, and answering your thread. Maybe it's because I'm hoping I'll find some answers that I myself have been seeking.

In the worst case, I still have my personal Discord (which is not Anti-Vizzed, no matter how much someone wants to insist it is) where I can keep in touch with everyone I like (and even don't like), whether they be members of Vizzed, perma-banned, or just a person I've met in my travels. So I won't disappear from people's lives entirely if I decide my answer is that "no, it's not worth being active". I would just disappear from a board that I've made over 25,000 posts on. A board that shows a history of my growth into adulthood. When I joined, I was a new 18 year old. Now, almost 25 years old, it's easy to look back, and see how this place has helped change me, for both the better and the worse.

TL;DR - Let's just try to enjoy what we have, and let the pieces fall where they may. Whether it's worth it or not, we've both had a hell of a run here, and it wasn't entirely meaningless.

legacyme3 : Naturally, hence why I wanted this thread to be an open discussion of thoughts and not the sole reason of my decision. 

I would agree that I also feel isolated from the community, but I would also state there's a lot of people that feel the same way, I think Ironically the person that complained about their being a clique, is the person that is currently enjoying the current one the most. I won't mention any names because I really can not be bothered to point out something that obvious and it's literally a site culture thing it isn't a bad thing (although some would say it was) depends where your perspective lies I guess.

I've already got a good grasp on what I want to do, well until I encounter 1 of 3 short term scenario's at least and then I'll take a rain check or whatever. 

I would also state that the people who may suggest your discord is hurting the site, should probably not be short sighted..... There's been various ways over the years that vizzed users of past and present have communicated.... and it never affected activity that much...if at all. 

But yeah, we've both been here a while, we've both stirred the pot a fair amount as well... I guess it's time to just enjoy the taste of it, and see where it goes from there.

I really don't see the point personally, but I will point out that the death of this site has not been a fast one. It's been a slow, painful death that has seen David trying to scramble for ways to save it. He went from ignoring the site for MONTHS at a time to scrambling to try to pick up the pieces.

To make a long story short and to not throw people under the bus, this place is probably never going to pick up to the activity that it once saw. Mainly because of a lot of us old-timers that posted a ton on here no longer do.

Similar to what Leggy said, the only reason I come here is to check the threads and see if there's actually something of substance to post about, (which is rare) just because it was something that I've done regularly for 7 years now.

Forums in general have been dying out on the internet for years. The only ones that are still alive are forums that actually post about something of SUBSTANCE. It's always been weird to me that this site is built around retro gaming but people hardly want to have any extended conversations about gaming, or retro gaming. Unless it was Pokemon...

So you wind up with what Vizzed has, which is a bunch of posts about what people had for dinner and other sensless forum games or rant threads.

Well.....to me I say no. Just like the old regular members I just pop in and out. I'll only check to see if there is anything new that won't take in my interest. And also to talk to friends as well if they don't have my contacts outside Vizzed. :/

I've done my activity in Jan when I did that 10,000 challenge. Leggy said I shouldn't really disappear on the boards and post like a few when I can. Which is what I still do. Its sad how things have become, but as the others said something needs to be done to be able to have Vizzed be active like how it once was...

I think many of us still post here in the hopes that one day the activity will spontaneously be back to something we were all more used to.

I agree that the activity will never rival 2011-2014 numbers because the internet has changed from what it was then but it this site should easily have 150+ posts per day without having to force it with how big it is and I want it to. I've posted here for over 12 years and the last thing I want is to see it close down.

However, I don't think a handful of us oldies can bring it back to that. I think in the end it is up to David to turn things around. I agree with Jordan that it felt like he ignored the site for months at a time (which I don't think is actually true but it sure felt that way sometimes) so hopefully having him trying to do more will help. Still, I am no fool and don't expect things to suddenly be crazy again like it was.

I simply hope for a site that I can come to on a daily basis that is active enough that I can post for a while and then head to bed or whatever. Casual but not forced.

Jordanv78 : It's probably better than me pestering you , On the bright side I will not be pestering people like that again. That was my "I want to improve vizzed" period and all it did was annoy people because I was a bit obnoxious about it. 

Also I'm always down to talk about games. But as you've said it really isn't the main focus when it should be. 

Eniitan : That's the issue once you hit the wall when it comes to posting and you actually read everything people post.. You literally just see the same stuff over and over again. It's a bit like real life honestly... you find yourself in the same situations all the time.. As for something being done.. Well we can try. But I doubt anything will succeed at this point

geeogree : Yeah I think we all just want that right now, I hope David sees this as well. Mainly because he could very well put a lot of work into something that could improve the site but it would be fruitless if no one is around to use it. 

I think most of the people that have posted in here are of the same mindset. So that's something at least.. Now we can just sit around the metaphorical fire roasting metaphorical marshmallows and talking about the silly stories and things we've done and witnessed here...

Naah but really, was there ever a point to becoming active in the first place? Why did you come to Vizzed in the beginning? There never was a point, it was just something you did when you couldn't think of anything better to do. Leggy was close with "You end up here when it's better than where you are at", but I think that's sort of a bleak outlook on it, isn't it? You end up here when you think about it, and these days you just don't think about it as much. So what if all of your old friends have moved on? Move with them or make new ones. That's how forums grow.

The only thing killing Vizzed (Besides social media) is old farts like you and me going around posting about "the good old days". What was so good about them? That we didn't have social lives? That we weren't so bitter? Stop with the boohooing, Vizzed hasn't changed, you have.

Regardless. This isn't one of those, OH the people were cooler back then threads... because if it was... I was certainly more not cool back then... although as it is the middle of summer.. I am the most uncoolest I have been all year. 

Also the simple answer is activity. Although I like to pretend I'm some amazing person who clearly should never be seen with such uncouth newer people I am a stupid goofball that likes to talk or post about stupid things... If I can't be stupid to people then I'll slowly turn insane... and I will make a show called the many names of Rukx the Muffin Tyri sonic wess delirium or some other very insane idea....

I will admit previously i became bitter simply due to wanting to help the site and basically being told to hit the road... but because things are looking bleak for the site I'm just here to enjoy it, like before.... Just so that if it does die I can be like.... At least I had a blast before it did.. And my last memories aren't so miserable or bitter.
