Many on this site know that I tend to enjoy a beer or two. Or rather, many. I am proud to say I'm a week sober/clean for a week now! I know a lot of people may see that as a silly thing to feel so accomplished about. But many, I KNOW, are probably stoked to hear this. Do I know I have a long way to go yet? Oh yeah. But I can keep on doing it, because I have never been more happy in years. To all who believed in my willpower, thank you. I will not let you down.

A week is AMAZING!!! Don't minimize your success - celebrate every day of your sobriety in recovery.

Make sure to set up a support system. There will be tough times, and you may feel triggered - but with a good support network in place you'll be able to overcome the temptation.

Wait, wait. So, let me get this straight. You drink a few beers and you're going completely sober for ever?

What's the strategy? Beer itself isn't bad if you're not operating a motor vehicle. And if you don't feel like you're fat and disgusting, because that does it to some people. And if you aren't waking up hung over all the time.

I drink beer quite a bit. It doesn't have a negative impact on me. I can drink in moderation and alcoholism isn't in my family.

Are you an alcoholic? Is your objective to stop completely or just slow down for a little while? Can you have one or two beers, take the edge off and have a good night or do you just drink all of them?

manicman66 : How about you make your post layout readable. You have the absolute worst post layout I've ever seen. Stuff is all over the place, text is on top of text, it's just a mess.

Congratulations, man. This is great news! I haven't talked with you a ton, but I remember you mentioning some struggles with drinking at one point. It's good to see you're sober after such an extended period. You should be proud!

Wait wait. First you tell me how much I drank, (which was far beyond a few) followed by a quite rude assumption of my weight... Mind you, I weigh 125 pounds. THEN, you ask if I am an alcoholic? Well, I know I am. But it certainly is helpful, ghost, to know that for each friend to support me, there is going to be others who will try to bring me down. Thanks. (Also, I have had this layout longer than Baritron has been a member here, not going to change it for him... I change what I want.) And to the ones who believe in me, bless you, I will use that faith to push forward.

That's awesome, Manic! I'm really happy that you're managing to do this. Man, this can't be understated. It takes some real willpower, strength, and COURAGE to resist drinking when you have been for a long time. I believe in you, my friend!!!

Manic- I think there was a slight misunderstanding. I think what Ghostbear meant by his post was that he didn't see anything wrong with drinking in moderation unless you see yourself as fat and that you want to lose weight or if you're a recovering alcoholic. I don't think there was any weight assumption intended or implied, but that's just my take on his post.

Ive been absent for a good while as well but my life is turning around for the better as well. Im spending the summer with a certain someone and we have fun times planned and Im excited! Its the happiest Ive ever been and nothing has happened yet lol. I cant wait!

You know, I don't often say this to people, but I'm proud of you buddy, a week without alcohol is incredible!

You completely missed what I was talking about. I said nothing about you being fat.

And you led off the post with, "I enjoy a few beers, okay more than a few."

To me, that's a lot less serious of a start than, "I'm an alcoholic and I've lost my job and family because of my drinking."

If you wanted us to take it seriously, you might have done better to not start with a joke.

I'm not rooting against you. I'm rooting for you. But my questions were focused on how many beers is a few, and what you're trying to achieve by going sober. When I get into competitive 5k season, I cut beer down to nothing because I drop 5-10 lbs and I get under the 20 minute mark easily. Then I go back to drinking because I like beer a lot.

I'm trying to have a conversation and I had questions for you. Instead of just reacting and taking offense, why not answer the questions. I don't know your history. You didn't say anything else about being a recovering alcoholic. And I don't know your fitness level.

That's why I ask.

Simmer down.

Just shared some days with my family and saw that my cousin doesn't have your willpower. He doesn't see the bad in his actions, refuses to take any treatment or even listen to anybody, be it family or friends, which is destroying himself and separating him from the family (not his girlfriend because she aims for his mother's money and will cope with literally anything, as sad as it sounds).

I've gone through complicated moments myself thanks to my incurable disease, so I have to compliment and support anybody else who is attempting to get out of a similar void as I got out from. It's a difficult step to take, it requires many qualities that most individuals lack and more specially those trapped in the void. For people constantly haunted by something, staying free of nightmares for a full week is incredibly relieving and definitely something to be proud of.

I hope things get better for you, man. We will always be here to support you in this difficult journey whenever you need us.

Two weeks as of today! This has been a trying task, but I am making it so far!!! Cherry Pepsi is my hero, thank the lord for soda. edit- my mom says a week and a half, oops.
