So most of us on this forum newbies or veterans have been playing video game for many years, sometimes several decades. We all have our nostalgia filled memories from playing video games when we were younger. one moment I thought would be fun to talk about is the very first game you beat as opposed to the one discussing the last one you beat. For me that was way back when I was in elementary school and had my very first console the Sega Mega Drive (or Genesis as its known in North America). This was some time after they were in fashion but I couldn't afford any of the new consoles and had been given one by a friend of my grandparents which used to belong to their children.

On it I used to play a lot of platformers but mainly Aladdin and Pinocchio probably because of my love for the movies and the disney universe in general. The latter became the first game I ever beat and the only I ever managed to beat when I owned the system. Likely due to its relatively short length and fairly forgiving difficulty compared to the others. It was a pretty triumphant moment for young me, if also a bit sad because I quickly realized that meant there wasn't anything more to the game. Before I really got to play the Pokemon games though or got to own a computer, this was one of the first things that marked my venture into gaming aside from just playing browser based stuff in school. Experiencing that moment made me want to play more games based on other things I was interested in so in that sense it was pretty significant.

What's the story of the first video game you managed to beat and how did it make you feel at the time? Do tell

To answer this question, I have to really wrack my brain, since I have been playing video games for many years (for example, I played the game Pong when it was first released).

But, the first game I actually recall "conquering" was a game called Mystery at Marple Manor, a text-based adventure on the Commodore 64.

The game was kinda like the board game Clue, but the absence of graphics made it very difficult to explore without getting confused and lost. A friend of mine developed a map which helped immensely!

What a cool idea for a thread! It brought back some very fond memories.

I think the first game I conquered was probably Crash Team Racing or Wipeout (very hard racing game that I would suck at now since I haven't played it in years). Crash Team Racing isn't that bad but I do remember having difficulty against the final boss of that game. I had to get my dad to beat Ripper Roo as I was scared of him as a kid. Wipeout on the other hand is a futuristic racer that has a very detailed story and history of each of the racing teams you can play as eg: The European team is called FEISAR (federal european institute for science and research- it is meant to be a parody of the EU) and is one of the oldest anti gravity racing teams in the AG league and they have 12 bases as neither of countries can decide where their base of operations should be held. None of this backstory is told during game-play but instead is told in the manuals or menu screens. It is an interesting read and my favorite team has to be Goteki 45 (from the pacific islands) as when they first started they basically went around destroying every teams's craft as they weren't caring about racing just blowing stuff up.

When I finally mastered this game I was immensely proud of myself but sadly I started to get bored of it (there is only 7 tracks in the whole game so it gets dull after a while) and I started to play the sequels which are a lot better and have more tracks and teams to choose from.

I actually got Dragon Warrior first on my NES, but the first game I ever beat was Final Fantasy for NES. Here's an amusing story about it. I was teaching my best friend(10 at the time) to play Final Fantasy when he said what I believe to be one of the funniest lines I ever heard. He said, "Can I go ahead and beat the boss right now?" I tried to hold in my laugh and wound up spitting all over him as it busted out, as I knew he was talking about Chaos. I was waiting for him to hit me, but he laughed with me, to my surprise.

I have played so many games over the years and sadly almost none of them were actually conquered. I didn't know what that feeling was until I beat Super Mario Brothers Wii-what an amazing feeling- I did skip school and spent all morning playing with my best friend but, I got the win and it was amazing.. Countless hours of gaming, soda drinks, and cheese it crackers so worth it. Then, I beat Gears of Wars 1, 2, 3, and Judgement Day- ahh those glorious games- the joy. Was close to beat Borderlands but got stolen along with many other games

I am close to beating Mario 3D world for Wii U but, the last 3 levels left have been a pained. I stopped playing and it's been about 5 months and have not gone back to finish it. I was also playing Mario Nintendo 64 and holly smokes whoever beat that game has my sincere respect and admiration. It is so complex. I am also working on Super Mario but took a break about 4 months ago- I am terrible at finishing games just awful. For now, I've been playing Minecraft and Destiny those games are endless literally.

Hmm I dunno I might think otherwise to do with my first post. I forgot one game until I saw a post say Crash Team Racing in all honesty I got 100% for the game. When I got stuck and annoyed I tried pushing my brother to help me, and he was like nope eni you have you do this yourself. So I kept on pushing until I was able to do it most levels were a pain in all honesty. '-'

DylanMcKaig : Thanks for jogging my memory to do with that.

Sadly, I can't recall exactly what the first game I beat was, but I want to say that it was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on PS2, since it was one of the games that came with the console when we bought it. I don't even like Harry Potter, but that was a fun game. It not that, it might've been Yoshi's Story on the N64.

DylanMcKaig : I have no idea what you said since I couldn't see the black letters on that background. I figured you might want to know.

The first game I really remember owning, heart and soul and beating and fist pumping and being all worked up about was the NES game Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. That game was hard, it was all about resource management, and the graphics made the combat system, both the top-down and the side-scrolling boss fights, insane. There were parts that you had to figure out, like getting into the castle that has Maid Marion, and it took smarts, watching the movie, and lightning fast reflexes to beat.

I remember being frustrated by Dragon Warrior I as a kid and I never beat until I went back later in life. The same goes for some of the other platform games.

I'd say Guerilla War was the first game I ever actually just straight up beat, along with Contra, but Guerilla War had infinite lives and it was attrition and with the cheat code, Contra was the same way. It just took time. I never actually conquered it.

I conquered Robin Hood. It was a game that needed conquering. You can't just play it and win.

Difficult one.

I started playing games when i was really young, like 3 or 4 years old. But I didn't actually beat a game until years later (i mean really do you expect a 4 year old to be good at literally anything)

Its between 2 games, Shrek 2 for gba and DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for PS2 (The latter i've no joke beaten 11 times in total) Its probably budokai tenkaichi 3 now that I think about it.

Me and a friend of mine would play it all day, bumping the difficulty up everytime we beat it. It was an awesome accomplishment, and it felt really good. I think i first beat it in 2010. Me and that friend still play it from time to time.

Damn, this post is way longer than it should've been.

The first game I conquered was Yoshi's Island for SNES. It was my absolute favorite game back then, and then I eventually beat Mario World, and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Those were a ton of fun as well!

Well I have been around since the 1980's. So the first video game I actually conquered was Super Mario Brothers 2. I remember having fun playing that game and it being my first video game I mastered that had levels and a boss. . The second game I mastered was Mega Man 3. I remember doing very well on the Atari game break out. But its a puzzle game so it doesn't have a final boss or anything like that. That is why I didn't post it as my first game. Even though technically it was the first game I did very well with.

For me, it was final fantasy V's gameboy advance port. Me and my brother both played through the game for the first time on seperate files. My brother got to the end and barely managed the first half of the final battle before being creamed by Neo exdeath. Then one day while he was busy elsewhere, I played his profile and back then, miraculously beat him with one character barely alive.

Now days, I know the game so well, the final battle is easily beat. Though sometimes I alter the means of defeating to get a increased difficulty.

The first game I beat was -- believe it or not -- Contra. I was five or six I think, and playing with my older brother (who was ten or eleven) and we used the Konami code.

At least I think that was the first I beat.

The first game I beat fair and square, and by myself, was Awesome Possum. Or more accurately: Awesome Possum Kicks Doctor Machino's Butt. An old and subpar SEGA Genesis game. "I'm awesome!" No buddy, you really aren't. Lol
I was seven or eight when this happened.

I remember rushing to my computer to play House of The Dead when I got home from school.  One fateful day, I finally managed to beat the final boss and that was the first time I beat a game.  I remember lifting my hand from the mouse and I was taken aback by how sweaty it was lol.  The only other time I remember my hands being that sweaty was when I beat Wario Ware Inc. on gba many years later.

Probably Super Mario Bros. back in 2009, note I was born in 2001. It would have been on the VC version (Wii) of course.
Though I think I beat MKDD in 2008 in around 2 hours.
