I had to make a thread for one of these. I wanted to ask if you guys have ever been to a Turkish restaurant before? I can't assume if many people have gone so I want to see if anyone has. I went to one today after my sister graduation and this was my first too. The food was surprisingly good to eat since my sister knew what to order I had some chicken wings, some sort of a meat that looked and taste like sausage. Then I had this yogurt sauce coated with somethings inside I had that, with the bread. Now I know that white yogurt I can't eat on its own, but if its mixed in with some food of the sort I can eat it and wouldn't vomit from that. also I gave the rice a try, and I did like the food a lot. Now it may not be somewhere I would go to again, but I might who knows? It may become a regular thing to go too it will depend. So there is my experience of that, has anyone been to one and if so...what was your experience from eating the food? What did you like, and what didn't you like?

Your timing is impeccable. Talking about food like this in a time of war, I feel, is a great idea.

I haven't eaten in a Turkish restaurant before, but it sounds delicious! There are several Thai restaurants near us, though; and their food is amazing. They have this chicken noodle bowl with peanut sauce, and one with eggplant (eggplant is my favorite vegetable). When I first ate it, I loved the taste of it...but I felt like I might throw up. Now I'm more used to it, and can enjoy the deliciousness of it more...but it's been like a year since we've eaten at those places (which are owned by the same company/have similar menus) ;-; Maybe I can convince the fam to go soon.

supernerd117 : Lol what even in a time of war? Anyways, yeah its pretty good I do recommend you to go if you can I mean it really nice, and all. Just order the one that wouldn't be too confusing....as for that Thai restaurant. I am sure I've been to a few, but sadly don't remember like what I had there it was probably noodles or something, that's the thing I would most likely to had eaten there. Try and convince your family to go and see what they say, and if you do manage to go. Make sure you let me know how it went ok?

Eniitan : There is a Turkish revolution going on right now. A portion (or so it's stated by the president of Turkey) of the military took over the country. Barathemos made the thread about it very soon after you made this thread. A bit of situational irony to brighten the day

Anyhoo, I will! I'll definitely try to convince my family to go soon! Most likely, it will just be me and my dad (my brother doesn't like to eat there often), but I know Dad likes their food, so that will likely be a great experience. I'll let you know how it goes!

supernerd117 : Ok thank you so much for taking the time to tell me this. Because I was really confused as of what you were talking about. I would had seen the thread sooner, but I was like out for the whole day. And I've delayed my posts so I am trying to reach a certain post by before going to bed, and being happy with where I have left it.

I've been eating in one before. Not every restaurant does everything perfectly, but the food is just the best part of the restaurant. I bet that's always the thing, but with that, i mean the food is great. If i had to choose where to eat, in a Turkish or (for example) a Chinese restaurant, i prefer the Turkish. I have nothing against Chinese restaurants and their culture and food, i just find the Turkish foods better. My opinion. And another good thing about Turkish restaurants in the netherlands: The employees are friendly. They aren't harsh or something, they do what everyone should do in a restaurant: They get along with the customers with respect.

I've never been to a Turkish restaurant, nor are there any around me. I am so sad. Especially since Supernerd's post made me hungry.

Eniitan :
supernerd117 :

Can either of you guys confirm that they serve Turkish Delight? I've always wanted to try that. It's family-betrayingly delicious you know.

Nope, I've never been to a Turkish restaurant, and if I ever visited one, I'm 99.9% sure that I will not like the food there , since you know me well big sis, I am extremely picky when it comes to food. My aunt keeps on telling me "Try new things for once, Mazen...", and whenever I DO, I dislike the food .

My aunt is right when it comes to food. I'm such a devil.

Technically yes, I haven't been to one anywhere close where I live. I have however been to Turkey on vacation several times and eaten at restaurants there. Had some soup which is basically a national dish as well as some kebab. The food there is often times very spicy so I ended up eating it quickly and drinking a lot but it tasted nice besides that. I've also had turkish yogurt which is commonly sold at kebab places here in Sweden. It has a pretty distinct taste which I don't really like nor hate. The food at the hotels I've stayed at was often more flavorless likely because they're afraid tourists can't handle it otherwise The desserts I've never liked though that really goes for desserts in Arab cuisine in general. Always trick me because they look tasty but the actual taste is really weird to me.

Overall I've enjoyed turkish cuisine from my limited experience, this was a while ago though so my memory is a bit foggy.

MarioLucarioFan64 : Yeah that I would know. Every restaurant will have to do their best for cooking things. I enjoyed my experience since it was my very first and I've never been to one before. So I wasn't sure how things would play out. Luckily it came out great for me.

A user of this : I see....you should try going sometime the food is really great. But it depends on the type of food that they will serve if you go into one. XD
And to answer your question yes they do by the end of your meal when paying for the bill of the food. And I have to say I hate Turkish Delight sorry. My dad at one point when it was out and sold in the UK mixed in dairy chocolate he brought it one time for me and my sister I tried it....and that thing made me to vomit for days on it really wasn't to my liking....this was many many years ago when I was in my teens.

greenluigi : Well luigi don't knock it till you try it I mean there will have their foods that you might know of. That is how I first felt when my sister said where we were going to eat. My brother said you need to try out the food before assuming. So I did to my surprise it was very nice to eat and I enjoyed the food especially the one that tasted like sausage lol. I enjoyed myself with hat food and wouldn't even mind doing again.

Divine Aurora : Oh I see. Their type is meat and lamb that's what it is.

Zlinqx : I see...thats pretty cool! My uncle ordered their soup lol I never tasted it but he seemed to enjoyed it a lot with the bread and all. I don't think the one that we had was too spicy I might be wrong since I was like really tired so I can't really remember on that sadly. Good to hear that you enjoyed the experience in a way. I've never been to turkey before so you must had like a really good time when being there. ^^

I've been to one in Amsterdam and I thought it was pretty good.

I personally like Turkish cuisine but I haven't been to many Turkish restaurants, only that 1.

Eniitan : They have lamb? Well heck yeah! Sign me up! Unfortunately, I haven't been to a restraunt with my family in 7 years. I went to an Italian one with my youth group a few months ago. Although I'd go out on a limb to say that Turkish and Italian food are very different. But yes, I want to try that food because I really liked the Chronicles of Narnia, and there's this whole thing with Turkish Delight in that. So I wanted to try it myself.

A user of this : Oh I see.....but, as you know for me I do like pasta food and all. Yes they have lamb, but it depends on the type of food you order. Sorry to hear that you haven't been to a restaurant with your family for 7 years....maybe you will get to go to one again real soon you can never know. Maybe suggest it and see what your family says? Oh that explains....I don't really like Chronicles of Narnia you might like it once you get to try it.

Now, i've been to a lot of different restaurants myself, mostly American ones, mind you, because I'm American and obviously American is the best, right? (ignores crowd of those who rightfully disagree, lol)

I've experienced Asian, Thai, Mexican, and Brazilian restaurants in my life time. But I've never been to a Turkish one. It sounds really interesting, so I'll have to check one out at some point, as long as it isn't to expensive. Granted, I'm pretty close-minded about my food, and don't appreciate changes in my very small and picky diet, so I probably wouldn't enjoy the experience all that much, but if I brought some friends I might be willing to.

The rice had to be good though, right? I mean, no one can mess up rice, no matter where you are. It's pretty much good universally.

Titan127 : I see....well I say you gotta go and try it out! I'm sure you will like it. Also oh yeah....the rice tasted real good I really do recommend you to trying their food. I'm also close minded to things because when I try out something new to eat I often vomit a lot. So that's why I am always wary to restaurants, that I have never been too before. I know you will like it once you get to try it out, and as for the rice they didn't mess up it up at all not even once.
