So sense this forum is about mother and Mario, why not put them head to head and see what, you, the people of vizzed think is a better game series. In my opinion I think the plumper has better entries so I have to side with Mario on this one. For one I get more nostalgia from games like Mario 64 and Super Mario World. Also, Mario is more enjoyable in my mind. Yes, the mother games and earth bound are very fun and addictive games. I just enjoy the Mario titles more. But what is your opinion? Do you enjoy Mario or Mother? 

Good question. Mario excels in game play, Mother succeeds in story. I don't hate Mario, but I like story-driven games much more. I definitely prefer Mother, but Mario's not too shabby either. Different strokes for different folks, right?

Hmm...I'm going to go with super Mario with this one. Because I have played more of that than mother which I am sad to say I have never ever played before. I'm more familiar with Mario games. I even watched super Mario bros cartoon when I was young if that sounds weird. This was from when me and my brother loved the super Mario kart on the Nintendo at the time. I hope this explains everything? I am sorry I would had gone for mother if I know more of the game unfortunately I don't. Or if I had already played both games I would had a dead lock for that. So.....I hope you understand where I am getting at with this. '-'

Of these choices, I have to say Mario.
I never really got into any of the Mother series and frankly, I don't get the hype.

I hate the Mother series and everything about it. I'm not joking, I find the whole series to be rather boring. I've only played Earthbound, but I have seen footage of the other games. It's just..ugh. Mother series is one of the most overrated series of all time, in my opinion. I think it's obvious at this point that my choice is Mario.

I'd definitely say that Mario is the better of the 2. One, Mario has a significantly higher amount of games than Mother, which only has 3 games total. The second reason is because Mario appears in so many different video game genres, including the JRPG genre, which is what Mother is. Mario's not only in RPG's, he's in platformers, racing games, sports games, educational games, puzzle games, etc. The winner is Mario hands down. It isn't even a contest.

Mario. Mainly because of its awesome games, and many funny characters. Mother doesn't have a lot of games, and if Nintendo revives that series, might check it out

I don't really think that these franchises are comparable.

I could see how it would be difficult to compare these 2 franchises, but it's easy for me.
Simply from a RPG standpoint, I prefer the Mario rpgs over the mother ones hands down. So Mario!

I only played one Mother game (Earthbound, for the SNES), and I found it quite disappointing compared to other RPGs of the time. So if that game is representative of the series, then I would definitely go for Mario. The lightheartedness of the game is carried MUCH better, and the music was superior too.

Beastmode64 : I've never played mother (I have played father lol) so I think Mario is better and is challenging in a fun way.

Mother.

Mario is a fine game, and it is well respected, but RPGs will always beat out platformers in my eyes. It doesn't help that Mother is one of the better RPG series around.

Mario. I don't like the Mother series. It's just boring to me. I know I'm in the minority here, so please don't come at me with your pitchforks and torches.

Mario all the way, I don't think Mother is a bad game but I been so used to playing Mario games since i was in my childhood ages so Mario it is.

I never got into either series, really. But if I had to pick one to start with, I would probably pick Mother because I much prefer story driven RPGs over platformers. I think the Mother series' theme is weird and is slightly overly goofy a lot of the time, but I get the feeling that I'm more likely to spend more time with Earthbound or Mother 3 than something like Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Sunshine.

Why are we comparing two completely different video games franchises?

The Mother series has some amazing RPG's with great comedy. But there are definitely better RPG's out there, and you don't have to look very hard to find them. The Mario franchise is so wide-ranging that there are Mario games of almost every genre imaginable. And I think, overall, Mario games are usually funner.

I have no idea how there is any contest. First, they aren't, as Faded Warrior said, comparable since they're two different types of games.

It's like comparing Metal Gear against Madden.

If you're going off popularity, Mario wins hands down. There are gamers who have never played or only barely touched Mother. Some might not even know what it is.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, can describe Mario. They've played the games, they've seen the variety of genres. Mario has sports games, racing games, platformers, side-scrollers, RPGS, whatever you want to call Paper Mario, even Tetris style games. It's everywhere and pervasive in video games. Heck, Mario had live action movies, cartoons, and more.

Mother? I couldn't tell you much about what it is. I haven't played it.

I think it's obvious that if Mother were a better series, it would have a stronger cult following. Mario is significantly older, has the stories and history and tradition. Mother doesn't have much going.

I have to agree with Ghost. They aren't comparable as such. But if we were to compare the RPG games of the Mario series - specifically, Super Mario RPG - with the Mother series... Well, Mother comes on top against Super Mario RPG, but the Paper Mario series has it beat story wise, and the combat of Mario and Luigi is a lot better.
