Sleep is quite essential. We obviously need sleep to survive, but we don't truly know what the point of it truly is. We can't decipher the purpose, mechanisms, functions, and psychological effects. I don't enjoy sleeping all too much. I feel restless when sleeping, and quite stiff afterwords. A brain is required for sleep, but I wonder why those without one (such as crustaceans and  sea sponges). It makes me ponder....

Do you enjoy sleeping? It is necessary for good health? Thanks for elaborating, friends.

I don't have in depth knowledge, but as far as I'm aware, sleep is necessary so the body eliminates all the waste that it cannot eliminate through sweat, urine or other means. Eliminating such waste means that the body must unleash some cellular agents, and these agents can only roam through the body while we're asleep (or in a comma, by extension) so as to not mess up with the many processes ongoing in the body while conscious. This is why you can die if you go too much time without sleeping, the body accumulates unwanted waste which in the end stops your metabolism and your body stops functioning.

True is that some animals almost don't sleep, but other animals do almost nothing else than sleep. For example, the Common Swift sleeps in mid-air, going through cycles of sleep-awake to remain flying all the time. An example of the latter could be Koalas, which have a slow metabolism due to their diet and thus need to sleep a lot to save energy.

As for your first question, I absolutely love sleeping. I'm a very lazy person, and lying about in bed or any surface for the matter gives me such pleasure that I can't resist but close my eyes. I don't sleep much because I force myself to stay awake and be productive, but in the past, during those holidays I had nothing to do, I could sleep an average of +10 hours straight. Now, I tend to sleep only the necessary, which is 7-8 hours at most, but I can feel energetic even when sleeping half of that. It all depends on your body effectively resting, which is beyond my knowledge as to why it sometimes happen and sometimes not.

Sleep time is when your body regenerates/repair tissues and vessels. It's important to stay healthy.

You might be having some form of sleep disorder if you're not enjoying it, or maybe the bed foam just doesn't fit well with your body (I can never sleep peacefully with those stuff hotels use. They're either too fluffy or as solid as a board), same with the pillows. Lastly, sleeping for less than 3 hours only makes my head hurt and I don't feel refreshed. During cramming times when I end up only having 1-2 hours of sleep time left before I'd need to wake up for class, I just stay up instead of trying to sleep.

Sleeping is one of the best things in life, that's for sure.

Forget about all of the health stuff about sleep and what not enough will do to your body, you don't have to look past the fact that not enough sleep will make you tired.

If you don't get enough sleep, you wont be able to think clearly or concentrate, and just being tired has its own dangers.

I think the problem that occurs when I sleep is semi-conscious brain processing. While I go to bed somewhat late (11:00 at most), I wake up on instinct at 3:00 every time. It's like my brain subconsciously keeps me awake; I'm constantly dreaming or perceiving that which is going on around my house when I am asleep. I mostly can't sleep the minimum 8 hours. I only usually get 4 hours of sleep, and feel the urge to get an early morning snack. Afterwards, my awareness keeps me alert throughout the early hours of the morning. I rock back and forth in my bed for two hours until I take a shower. I also can't shake off my feelings of regret; my previously suppressed memories manifest in my mind constantly and I can't stop them. I have a knack at maintaining information, but that just leads to the thoughts to run rampant in my mind, and the stress of not waking up exactly when my brain tells me too makes me delusional, insomniac, alert, and afraid. I just can't seem to control my contrived sleeping habits.

I also can't stand rampant laziness. I find sleeping to be somewhat lazy and boring, and can't help but do something else. Perhaps that might be a factor into only getting four hours of sleep or less.

Not sleeping causes you to lose focus and not concentrate. Some things need rest from their jobs, and your brain is no different.

For me, sleep is necessary to be able to talk and make sense while doing it XD I need plenty of it to get through the day, especially when I have school to worry about. When I get enough sleep, I have the energy to help out around the house, I usually want to have conversations with people, and I can stay awake without having a lot of sugar.

However, without enough sleep, all I want to do is lay down and do nothing. I need sugary cereal or whatever I can eat to make me hyper, and I find it hard to get my words out without having to think hard about it. :/ My goal is to get 8 hours of sleep a night or more, which isn't easy. Typically I can function just fine with 6-7 hours, but any less than that is difficult for me to handle.

Its necessary because its the one thing that helps and relaxes your body. Also to recover anything that you may feel sore or pains in the body as well. If we don't sleep how else are we meant to rest? Its the one thing in the human cycles that is in real need and people have posted explaining why. I love to sleep most of the time. I even have my cat naps in the afternoon. Never too much sleep is a bad thing.

But if you don't sleep to some certain extent you will start to feel really strange in a way I can't explained but you sort of see where I am getting at? Everyone needs sleep its necessary. Plus you would get a lot of energy back from losing some. If you don't sleep when you should or have any at all. You would lose so much energy that you won't be able to function properly. How do I know? I tested this myself in the past to see how many days I can stay up for and what damage it may do to your body. And my friend it wasn't a pretty sight. '-'

I used to be afraid to sleep because I couldn't know what was happening around me when I'm asleep, once I became lazy it became a friend of mine.
There is scientific evidence that if you sleep too much or too little it can help cause cardiac problems, and mess with brain function, so I would say it's pretty essential.

I'm asking myself that same question as I type a response to a bunch of threads at 4 in the morning because I want to hit a certain post goal on a website.

I don't know, is sleep really necessary?

For me, Sleeping gives me mixed feelings.
I hate going to sleep at night Because I know that if I do a new day will soon be approaching and I don't want that to happen because I want my pain to end

But at the same time I love sleeping as it is one of the few things that I can do to escape reality, That is, Except for when I have nightmares.

Sleeping is entirely necessary and helpful to the body and human mind. It is an essential part of our well being and overall nature of humanity.

That being said, I have a terrible sleep schedule thing. I can go entire days without sleeping or entire days sleeping, I don't have a fixed time to go to sleep and wake up, especially during the school vacations, and it doesn't help that my coffee addiction messes with it more.

I think it is pretty essnsial for a healthy life. However, I end up not wanting to sleep

I have a love-hate relationship with sleep. I hate going to sleep, but I also hate waking up when I am asleep.

I have previous stayed up multiple times in a row of a small amount of sleep every day, such as 2-3 hours, and currently I am unable to do so because I have started to wake up sick to my stomach until I do sleep more. So in theory, it is important to me to sleep so I can feel well enough the next day.

Sleeping is necessary, and I love sleep as well. I consider it as a 'time machine', because it instantly skips half the day . For example when I'm fasting, when I'm tired, or whatever, I simply sleep. I recover energy. Oh and if in one night I become in a bad mood because of something, I completely forget the problem the next day thanks to sleeping. I think during sleep your body cleans itself, and your brain works much more.

Well, everyone has to sleep at some point That being said, I love sleep. I love laying in my bed and drifting off into dreamland. Right now, as it's summer break, my sleep has been consistant, and I have gotten a lot of it now, but when school starts again, I'll be back to wanting more sleep again.

Yes and no, I do like sleeping sometimes especially when I'm waiting for something as it makes time go by faster On the other hand I like staying up at night more than I do sleeping because I often end up finding something I want to do right before I go to sleep like playing a certain video game or posting on the boards. Vizzed is the most active at night time for me as well so I often stay up late because of that.

Overall that means I'm often tired from not getting enough sleep especially when I have school. Thus I usually really enjoy what sleep I do get but waking up becomes a daily struggle I'd rather avoid :v

Well, I have mixed feelings about sleeping.

One the one hand, I love to sleep. I want to escape reality as much as I possibly can, even if it means only being unconscious. I'd sleep my life away if I actually could. That, and laying in bed is pretty much one of the most comfortable things in this world, if not the best. I hate waking up each morning, not only because it's incredibly hard for me to shake off the drowsiness, but also because I feel some what dope sick every morning until after I eat, and wait a couple hours for the medication I take each morning to kick in. That, and I always feel cold when I first get out from under the sheets every morning, and I really don't like being cold

One the other hand, I don't like to waste time in any given way. Sleep is essentially wasted time, and I would much rather spend that time doing some thing , no matter how counter-productive it may actually be in the grand scheme of things. For instance, if given the chance, I'd be just as happy to go with out needing to sleep at all the rest of my life as I would be inclined to sleep the rest of my life away ( doesn't make sense I know lol ). I feel the same way about eating, I'd be more than happy to go with out for the rest of my life if I could. I'd much rather spend my time making videos for the site, or just listening to music / watching T-V or some thing like that over sleeping, but sadly, it's essential to survival. Especially during this month, it would be a huge advantage to not need any sleep at all, and even though I've only been getting maybe half of what I usually do any way ( not because of the competition itself ), it would still help to have those extra couple hours to spend on here. I finally found some thing that helps me sleep through the night, and then lose it for most of the month, so that's been really rough.

Any ways... Yea, I could go either way with sleeping. Either give me tons of it, or none at all. But some how I always get stuck in the middle, exactly where I don't want to be lol XD

I love sleeping! I just wish I wasn't missing out on so much while I did sleep.

I L-O-V-E SLEEPING. I want to be in bed right now.  I don't care what I may miss out; my sleep is soo much better. I love my big warm blanket and a/c. Ugh I think I slept 12 hours once I was so tired lol. But, I can't nap during the day because then I over sleep and feel like a zombie and then I can't seem to catch my sleep at night -__-' napping is the best though. I swear I was a Snorlax in a past life. I want a Snorlax bed!!
