Recently I have been financially struggling with my money, and was wondering if eating one meal a day was alright. I don't have breakfast, lunch, or even dinner at times. Is this okay for me in particular? 'cause it feels like it's finally starting to take a toll on me. I'm worried something is going to happen to me. If not, I'll try to manage to have at least two meals a day.

I say its fine. Normally I do that if I am on a diet or something. Usually I would eat once or 2 times a day. Considering I eat at odd hours.but may not be healthy. For other people may think that, but in a way I am happy with it. I sometimes eat 3 times a day but its not always that I do this anymore.

I wouldn't say it's healthy. Your body needs food for energy and nutrients - skipping meals is going to change this considerably. If you start skipping meals, your body becomes accustomed to this and for nutrients starts to store fat everytime you eat. Beans and eggs are cheaper sources of protein, and personally I like to fry up bell peppers and mushrooms with cheap ramen to add extra flavouring. If you're really strapped for cash, you can also look around your area to see what resources are available (such as a soup kitchen - hey, a meal's a meal).

YES. skipping meals is not healthy. it slows down your metabolism, gives you mood swings, fatigue, and nausea. it can also cause an imbalance in your blood sugar. your body needs ATLEAST 1000 calories per day, even 1000 is considered under eating. take care of yourself and try to eat at least 3 meals a day.

You must eat something every few hours, even if it's not much. That way, at least your body will be receiving constant energy.

It's preferable to do three (or more) meals a day even if it means eating unhealthy food than doing just a single meal. Of course, you shouldn't abuse unhealthy food, but it at least will give you the energy to keep going, something one meal cannot grant you.

I'm sure that, even if you're running low on cash, you can eat at least three meals a day and keeping it mostly healthy. After all, some pasta, rice, eggs and other nutritious meals are relatively cheap.

Thanks everyone. This helped me out a lot. Now I'm considering about the kinds of food I can currently afford like this. But then again, I wouldn't consider that one thing I do have everyday a meal. It's really just bologna on top two pieces of breed with nothing else. To be honest, I don't normally talk about these kind of difficulties in my life with others, but we're all friends. Save for makalya. But she seems alright. And I trust you all enough to come fourth with things like this.

Hmm...This is good to know. I've been on my own personal weight loss
thing for awhile now. And really, trying to consume less than 2,000
calories a day is my ideal.

The best thing to do is eat something healthy. And eat at least three times a day. Even if it's just a banana, or two eggs. It doesn't have to be too much, but enough to keep you going.

Final Weapon : Have you tried to google "healthy cheap meal ideas"? I've done that myself, and there's tons of ideas online. Another good cheap protein is peanut butter! I'm still bad at managing money, so sometimes I eat sandwiches every day because they're cheap - peanut butter is great, and also try to find "healthy" bread on sale (I read the nutrient values - I'm sure it's not what it says, but it's gotta be better at least than the super cheap bread).

plasticinsanity : Well, I've tried peanut better last night, but it just doesn't fill my hunger, and I still suffer during the day of starvation. I would rather prefer things like pizza or hot dogs over fruits and vegetables to satisfied my needs. Even though I know it probably isn't really healthy for me. About the healthy cheap meal ideas, I haven't looked into that yet. Maybe I should, though. I might just be able to come across something that will be of use to me during my darkest hour. Thanks for telling me.

Depends on the size of the meal really. Although it's really much better for either a ton of snack sized meals, 3 balanced meals or 2 large meals in the morning and before bed.

Eating 1 meal a day is certainly not good for your metabolism. Usually speaking, if you are only eating 1 big meal a day, you are probably making more poor decisions with regards to what you are choosing to eat, and really your body has a hard time breaking down all the nutrients when you take them all in at once.

It's way better for your metabolism to eat smaller meals more frequently, or at least small healthy snacks in-between.

There are lots of cheap meals you can eat, the main problem is making sure you know how to cook on your own and not rely on a bunch of prepared or frozen meals.

If you have a farmer's market near you, you might be able to grab fruits/veggies/potatoes, etc. for a much cheaper price than the store (if they sell in bulk).  We can grab cases of 50 apples sometimes for like $20.  But we do have to drive about 30 minutes on average to get there.  They also usually have a greater variety of stuff than what you'd find at the usual store.

I mean they say to eat 3 meals a day or 2 with some snacks but honestly I think it would be okay for you as long as your not eating 1 huge meal a day.

yeah, I'm basically in agreement with everyone else on here that eating 1 meal is bad. If you can somehow make that 1 meal into 2 or 3 meals (even if that just means eating less at each "meal") then you will be better off. Getting the calories more evenly throughout the day is better than getting them all at once. Your body will be able to digest the food better and you'll get more out of it that way.

Eating one meal a day is still better than eating no meal a day, but I agree with many others that it's unhealthy. If there are times where you have to have only one meal a day, I suggest not having your meal less than 2 hours before bed.

When you eat before bed, you're most likely to be sleeping while the food is digesting and it slows down your metabolism. Every time I eat before bed, I wake up not feeling hungry at first, but feeling weird and empty.

Yes, eating more than one meal a day is really bad for you. Eating 3 meals a day is what people in general should be eating. I hope you'll consider eating closer to 3 meals a day in the future, but in the end, that's your decision.

Because of the human body's need for all types of nutrients and energy throughout the ENTIRE day, eating one meal a day is bad.

I would recommend breaking that one meal up into 2 or 3 smaller meals or snacks.

Depending on your weight your body needs so many calories to run within forty eight hours. If you don't eat enough and your body burns off all the calories then what? You stop growing of course! So yes eating one meal a day is bad and I highly don't recommend doing so.
