Do you ever leave a like instead of saying "you're welcome"?

I like to sometimes give people likes instead of saying "you're welcome" outright.  I feel it's a more concise, and sometimes more meaningful way of saying the same thing.  How do you feel about this practice?  Have you ever done it?  If not, do you plan on doing it in the future?

I do both about the same, sometimes people might not understand what it means, and I have had experiences of that too, and some think I either didn't see, or simply don't want to reply, so for me I find it best to reply instead.

This is a good question, sometimes I do or at times I reply back because I am enjoying the engage I am having with some members on that thread. And talking about the subject and all. I tend to leave a like when its necessarily, when at times I don't always do it and would reply back to say your welcome in a way. If you get what I mean? Its kinda complicated for me in a way when you think about it lol. So I hope you understand what I am trying to say. XD

Eniitan : I think I know what you're trying to say.  You're saying that it depends on how you feel at the time, right?

Y4123 : Check the bottom left of each post.  There should be blue and red text saying "Like" and "Dislike".  If it's not there, it may be a problem with your browser.

Y4123 : If it isn't visible it's probably your Vizzed settings. I had that problem for months before someone informed me that I had to use the "Regular" thread layout setting in the "Edit Profile & Settings" menu. Before that I had it set to "RPG" and it disabled the like and dislike buttons. I'm mobile as well, I don't use Chrome, but I doubt the browser would be too much of a problem. I could be wrong though.

supernerd117 - thank you for making this thread!
*in my Ferb voice* It had to be done.

Sometimes I do like a post to say "you're welcome" or "thank you" or even "I agree". I figure it's (as you said "a more meaningful way" of thanking or saying you're welcome. Like sending someone a birthday card instead of just saying happy birthday on the phone. As for the "I agree" part, I do that to keep from posting just to repeat what they said or post two or three words (or worse yet, a bloated thirty word reply that says "I agree" and uses twenty eight filler words). And once in a while I might like a post if it's funny.

Finally on a review I might like the post to say "Nice work". In fact the reasons I listed here describe my reasoning for liking most posts that I do. Once in a rare while I like one just because I thought it was that good. I figure if a post is good enough to like, it's good enough to reply to and add something to the discussion.

Eirinn : You're welcome!  And that sounds very much like how I decide to like a post.  Generally, I stick to those guidelines.  Also, I can hear Ferb's voice in my head!

I do it at times. Usually because I feel that there isn't really anything left to say on the matter.

I do that sometimes. Not just to say you're welcome but to show I read and understood a reply to a post or something along those lines when I don't have anything more to add since I dislike making short posts simply to say that. I've seen people do the same both with my posts and others as well.

If you reply with a "your welcome" or a "thank you" it is indeed sort of like filler space in a thread through which people genuinely interested in the threads topic will have to scroll through to get to the actual discussion (it's not that big of a deal to do though). However, it shows that you're there and you care enough to bother with the formalities. However, there are many people who find those sort of formalities petty.

Leaving a like is sort of ambiguous. For instance, if I get a like on a post I interpret it as being a "I agree" sort of deal, while others may interpret it differently and thus get confused as to what your like means. If you think about it the purpose of the like button is to show "I like what this post has to say". So in that sense I think it makes sense to leave a like as a way of saying "your welcome" or "thank you". Leaving a like is a sort of acknowledgement to the poster. I think it's conceivable to assume somebody is saying "your welcome" or "thank you" from "hey I acknowledge your post" with context from the discussion.

If you were having a conversation with a poster and all you had left to say was either "your welcome" or "thank you", then I believe it is better to leave a like acknowledging their post rather than take up space with a post that doesn't add much more to the discussion. I believe this view is applicable even to those who care enough to bother with formalities, because if they care enough to bother with the formalities of saying "your welcome" or "thank you" then it is within reason to assume they also care about the forum and its readers enough where they wouldn't want to waste their time with a post that doesn't add much more to the discussion when they can get a similar message to the person they would direct said post to anyways by simply liking their post (sorry if that comes off as harsh, I have no issue with people who post that stuff).

The only problem for liking their post and not commenting I can still see is if the person had intended to further the discussion after your acknowledgement post of "your welcome" or the likes (which is not that uncommon really). In that case, it may (or it may just not) be awkward at first for the person to spring up the comment/question with no word response from you but I think that's something they should be able to look past if they genuinely want to further the discussion.

Sometimes I do. Depends on the gesture. If someone just says something nice to me in a forum or on Facebook then I'll give them a like. If they went out of their way to give me a gift or do something nice for me then I will give them a Thank you. Nothing can compare with actually showing your gratitude to someone doing something nice to you.

I honestly almost never use the post rating feature because I'm uncertain of when it's appropriate and when not... I also think it's directly involved in my image, as well. It's not something I just want to hand out, but I sometimes feel a little rude for not doing so... I just don't have a grasp on the criteria to meet before I deem a post likable.  Not putting on some persona or anything, I just don't really get it...

I would mostly say you're welcome, rather than give a like. I would give a like, but I'll rather compliment people on their posts.
