Do people actually like the elimination style threads on Vizzed? What is it about those threads that people actually like?

I can't figure out what purpose they serve. They don't seem to generate any meaningful dialogue about the topic at hand so I don't see their point.

So, please vote away on this poll.... and explain why you like or dislike the elimination threads.

Simply put: I never understand what they are, or the purpose of them.

I personally think they aren't too much of a pain because all elimination threads are closed during TdV to avoid spam count to the yellow and blue jerseys, but outside of TdV, I don't have a problem with because it does give the poster some though on what they want to do. It isn't like count to a certain number, that right there are meaningless.

Others might have a different opinion though.

I personally like elimination threads. I find it very satisfying when I can take out a certain sports team or a certain type of genre I don't like by taking away points from it, and eventually KOing it.

IgorBird122 : but the threads literally have no purpose. It's a copy paste and changing a handful of numbers.... absolutely nothing else to it.

gamerforlifeforever2 : and that accomplishes what? There are no conversations happening, no debate, no anything.... just a list of names and numbers that are copied and pasted.

geeogree : That is true, those thread are nothing more than coping the last post and changing a few numbers, but that is it. I still think it isn't that bad, but as long they aren't a lot of them. So yeah, those threads seems pointless to have, but it's alright at the same time.

I stand with what gamerforlife said. Some would find it satisfying to eliminate an entity from the competition. I used to think like that as well until a while back when I realized they were pointless and only posted during competition, and even then I saw it as dumb and swore to stop.

Now I'd be totally fine if they were just banned.

geeogree : I'm going to go along with what gamer said, and say that elmination threads in a way work the same way as any thread that would talk about the topic, but gives a more community based opinion on a topic.

Take for example, a one for football teams. You could have a What's your favorite football team thread, which I think there is, or the football elimination thread. A Whats your Favorite team thread would be individualized towards your own likings obviously while at the end of an elimination game, it shows in general what is the most liked by the entire community, instead of what the one person thinks.

So it's basically a regular poll, but way more interactive and easier to find results.

zanderlex : but in a favorite team poll people actually TALK (or type ). There is at least some kind of discussion taking place. The elimination threads have nearly no discussion going on. As such I would prefer the poll in favor or elimination style thread because at least people would talk about things.

They are a forum game like any other. Everyone has his/her own views over a specific subject, and has the ability to reinforce or take out one of the options.

I'm not a big fan of them either, but if I know enough about the subject they revolve around, I can participate.

EX Palen : but it's not even a good game. It's not really a game at all. There is 1 rule and absolutely no other requirement.

geeogree : It can become a game if some users set their minds into eliminating one of the choices or making one prevail. 

Also, they serve as a good way to express your opinion in a different way. If you want one of the choices taken out because you dislike it, you simply have to say nothing and downvote it.

This being said, Bara is hosting a meme elimination in his forum, and his beloved Doge almost got eliminated... If that's not funny, tell me what could be (inb4 geeo checks the thread out to eliminate Doge right away )

They're just fun little things to see what everyone likes best  

I enjoy them cause it shows what the vizzed community likes most.

There's nothing wrong with them They're just fun to be part of. 

I think that, when coupled with dialogue, elimination threads can be a fun, engaging way to discuss opinion and actually lead to progress.  However, if taken too seriously or lax, elimination threads can be destructive, or even quite boring.  I'm not the biggest fan of elimination threads, but I think there is good in them.

Whenever I post in Elimination threads, I often feel like I'm the only one who actually eliminates using strategy so my favorite subject can win the game. Most people just downvote everything they hate and upvote everything they love, which, even though it's allowed, makes it kind of lame.

It's just a way to show your opinion of a certain subject, but the forum game aspect makes it more fun. Like any other forum game, that's the main point, to have fun. Either you like them or you hate them I guess.

Furret : that's the impression I'm getting. People either think they are a huge waste of time or they think they are fun. I'm just tired of seeing one at the top of so many forums. It's like ask anything threads were becoming. There were way too many for a while. I think these threads are similar in that way except I think they are completely useless as thread types

I wouldn't say they're completely useless, but I do agree that there are too many of them, making them repetitive and lame after a while. I wouldn't mind having like two total at a time (one in the main forums, one in the rented ones), but right now I think there are like 8? Some of them aren't even active and just fill up a sticky slot. 

I have played an elimination game or  two in my time. I don't really care one way or the other about what happens to them though. 


Having said that, it looks like geo just wants to ban them because he doesn't understand/like them.

I actually loathe them.

They aren't fun, and they seem to exist purely as word spam.

In fact, that's just what I'm going to call them. Word spam. Especially if someone is posting in 5+ elimination threads a day, and posting in certain elimination threads every 3-5 posts.

geeogree : There are a lot of those threads and it probably would be beneficial to set some kind of limit for them ( like 3 threads at a time or something) but people don't make posts in elimination threads just because they "like" them, they also post in them because it gives them something to do. Some think it's fun and post in them, some think it isn't fun and avoid them, and some may think it's fun ( or not ) but post in them just because it gives them a boost. You can say the same thing about ANY other thread on this entire board. This thread is pointless, that thread is pointless, they're ALL pointless but it gives everyone something to do, whether it be making in-depth conversations or pointless 'Ask Me Anything' threads. You can't really deny anyone that privilege of doing what they think is enjoyable to them ( unless of course they were plagiarizing or flaming or any other illegal / unjust activity ) and if you don't like what they are doing / posting then just avoid them all together. That way the threads would become less popular and eventually will get closed if no one was posting in them because they didn't find it entertaining. So, unless there is some kind of illegal / unjust activity that is somehow associated with these kinds of threads ( Elimination, Ask Me Anything, etc. ) then I say let them be because "...the world don't move to the beat of just one drum," - Diff'rent Strokes
