What is your favorite water type starter pokemon for pokemon gens 1-6? Explain Why?

My favorite would be Piplup. I like him because not only does he evolve into Empoleon and becomes a steel type, but because I also like penguins. If it weren't for those two reasons, my favorite would be Mudkip.

My favorite water type starter and favorite starter in general is Squirtle. I love Squirtle because he is so cute and evolves into the all-powerful Blastoise. Also, Blastoise is one of my favorite Pokémon as well.

Water types are among some of my favorite pokemon, so this will be easy.

Totodile has always been my favorite water type starter. Mainly because when it evolves into feraligatr it becomes so powerful and menacing looking. Sheer force feraligatr with max attack and speed investment can wreck just about anything. I'd like for feraligatr to receive a mega evolution though. I'm curious to see how they would go about making it.

Second place would have to go to piplup. Empoleon might be somewhat forgettable, but I like it's design and stat distribution as a special attacker. 

I will agree with Totodile because that was the starter for the very first game I played which was Gold and I always chose Totodile, never one of the other ones. Sure, Squirtle is so much better overall but in the games and from nostalgia, playing with Totodile is the best.

Feraligatr is probably the best water type starter out there. I don't particularly favor the earlier gens over the later gens, but tbh half of the water starters are terrible (squirtle line, totdile line (not croconaw) and Froakie line are the better halves) It's designed nice for the most part and it's good competitively this gen.

I am surprised there is not so many love for Mudkip. But there's me to change that!

If you didn't notice yet, my favorite Water type starter is Mudkip. I really love it's design and voice in the anime. Mudkip only has two weaknesses and when Mudkip evolves, there is only one weakness left! Swampert has great attack and good defenses and HP.  The Special Attack is decent. Speed could be a little better but it's Mega Evolution fixes that with the Swift Swim ability which activates when it is raining in the battle (no Sap Sipper though). Both Mudkip and Swampert learn some fantastic moves like Waterfall and Rock Slide.

Did I also mention that Mudkip is amazing in the Mystery Dungeon series? Nope, Mudkip rules that game. Weaker moves in the normal games got a boost in the Mystery Dungeon games like Mud Slap, which is OP since it also lowers accuracy of the opponent each time when used.

My favorite water type Pokemon would definitely have to be Mudkip because it evolves into Swampert, a water/ground type that only has one weakness: grass.

I like oshawott. Samurott is amazing with stat boosts.

My favorite would have to be Mudkip. Yes yes, I am very old school, but I have never been a huge fan of the water type starters. I did choose Mudkip, Squirtle, and Oshawott in my games for my starter, but I really am not a huge water type pokemon user. Mudkip has just stuck with me ever since I got one in Pokemon emerald, and it because insanely strong of a Pokemon, and won the game for me. 

   My favorite would be Mudkip, since he can evolve into Swampert. His beefy stats are great, he can learn some great moves, and grass type is his only weakness, giving him a huge advantage with the secondary ground type. His stats are top notch, he has a great movepool, as well as a great typing. I really like how they're designed as well.

No Greninja love? Man oh man. I guess he got nerfed too much.
Greninja kind of took my favourite spot the moment it was revealed it was part Dark type. I admittedly haven't had the chance to properly raise one, but from what I've used of him in Showdown,, he doesn't disappoint. A Protean Greninja means every move is STAB and he can adapt to type advantages on the fly.
Swampert and Feraligatr are still awesome water starters and all, but Greninja blows them out of the park for me.

Squirtle most definitely first water type best in my opinion

Froakie all the way, sorry Mudkip but this frog made a splash.  

I really like using Greninja cause of his hidden ability Protean. He makes very good use of it unlike Kecleon. I love using him as a lead to attack, use poison spikes, switching him out with u-turn, taunt, anything that can help me out in the current situation. Greninja has a lot tools to utilize so it's hard to predict what he might do next.

So you better watch out before he shadow sneaks behind you.   

So far, I have only 2 generations where the water-type is my starting Pokemon (Gen IV and Gen VI) which are Piplup and Froakie, the reason why I like them is because of the final evolution of them.

Piplup envolves into Empoleon, which is a Water/Steel type and I like it's moves and it can resist most moves than any other starters.
Froakie envolves into Greninja, which is a Water/Dark type, and you know me, Dark is my most favorite type and I think with it's moves, it's the best of all the water starters.

vizzy900 :   My favourite to raise is Totodile. It's one of those "tot" Pokémon and it grows to be quite impressive.

The reasons I like raising it the most are that I can have it fully evolve by level 30 (unique for water starters) and not be penalized by waiting way too long for it to learn its mightiest attacks. Fully evolved, this starter learns its last level up attack just 6 levels later than if it had not evolved yet.

I always pick Totodile when it is up for grabs. I have yet to see a better deal in terms of level up learned moves in a starter.

My favourite to look at and listen to is definitely Squirtle. They are so cute in the Anime. I have a plush Squirtle doll from Japan. Sometimes I put black sunglasses on its head for fun.

I like penguins, so definitely Piplup for me.
It's really cute but also very strong in the show; it has the power to summon a whirlpool! The bigger forms look really strong and cool, but I forgot their names.

I always picked mudkip.It's definitely my favorite water type pokemon.

My favorite water type starter has got to be Mudkip. It is bulky, has a nice design and it's evolutions resist Electric type attacks. 

I'm kinda torn between the two latest Generations for this favorite spot. On one hand, I like Oshawott in design more than Froakie, but I like Froakie's evolutions more than Oshawott's.
