So yeah, it's that time of the season: post-TdV time. It happens once every three months, and it's always the same: We post like crazy, we rate videos, we rate screenshots, we fight for banners, we act surprised when we win them (wait, what? Okay, usually I really AM surprised if I win one), we complain when we lose them ("They cheated! "I hate them!" "I'm quitting this stupid site because I lost! #ragequit"). It's the typical TdV season, and we (or most of the less cynical among us) love it.

But to properly participate in the TdV you have to practically live on Vizzed for a month. Heck, I did that to win the VCS once and it wasn't half as competitive as the TdV (for whatever reason). And then comes the fallout...

When people spend most of their days on Vizzed posting like a madman (or woman!) for a solid thirty to thirty-one days, the day following there comes the inevitable. The dreaded. The ugly.

The Crash.

You know what I'm talking about, and if you don't then look around. As a Mod it's my job to look over recent posts and threads in the forums I'm over, and during any given TdV that means opening ten or more tabs (since I open all newly posted in threads in a given forum at once, but no i don't use the dreaded "tabbing" technique for jersey competing) in order to run a single scan.

The day after the TdV? I open maybe three. Seriously. I looked just now in the Video Games forum and we had two threads posted in today, whereas we had I believe twelve or thirteen posted in yesterday.

More statistics?
April 1st - 866 posts
May 1st - 252 posts

That's over a 300% difference.

April 1st Post-per-hour: 36.08
March 1st Post-per-hour: 10.5

The top three members in post count on April 1st had 98 posts, 78 posts, and 70 posts.
The top three May first had 34 posts, 16 posts, and 10 posts.


Translation: The day after TdV, Vizzed feels like a ghost town. It's almost eerie.


So I ask, am I alone in this land of V? Oh Vizzed...er...ist...eee...whatever, where art thou? T_T

Also I gets bonus points for actually using "A.K.A" properly. I'm proudly among the three percent of internet users that know how to. ; p

I'd hate to be rude but I see no use for the TDV other to pit users against each other and even rip their friendships apart. Yeah I know some of them get closer because the compete but others don't. I still stand by my opinion that the TDV is spammy, even if it has calmed down a bit. I feel like I get replies to my posts just because it's TDV. I don't want to make David feel bad, but the TDV..well, it kinds sucks. .w.

That's odd, really odd. In my opinion, it's good to have the TdV sometimes so it encourages users to post more and the board will be more active. Ghost town? Maybe. I used to dislike the Tour De Vizzed, but after it became much less spammy, I did compete a few days to get Blue because it was the easiest one I could get. Don't worry, I'm still alive, Vizzed till I die, remember ?

greenluigi : Oh I didn't mean the TdV was bad, I actually enjoy portions of it. Sure it has it's downsides, but every competitive game does, right? This was just more of a look at the humorous down time we have after TdV.

It is a ghost town. I kind of like the peace though. It gives people the chance to relax. Early last year we had the February CP VCS right after the TdV. Then a VCS in March. The Minecraft Server opened in April. I had zero self-control, so by the time that summer rolled around I was practically a zombie.

The trick is to keep drinking Vizzed soda and try to avoid the crash forever. Works for me.

Even stranger, now that the TDV is over, the quality of posts has risen exponentially.

It's almost like the TDV is good for quantity but horrible for quality.

EideticMemory : I think some people during the TdV run out of vizzed soda and their brain is so fried that they don't think of buying more, so they crash

Thanks for this silly thread and I think most people, especially the TdV competitors, notice the crash right away. Hopefully I'll make quite a few posts once in a while to maybe make this month more alive in the boards

Honestly, I've noticed it. After the TdV, everything slows down, and Vizzed members hide in the RGR or something. I guess my activity also slows down, but it's hard to be active when everyone else isn't. The thing I'm afraid of when competing in the TdV is getting tired. When that happens, TdV post crash happens.

Speaking of, this thread is getting a bit spammy. I honestly never noticed slow downs like this until I left and came back. I always remember activity just kind of chugging along, without really slowing down.  The site is just in a slow period, I suppose. Nothing left to do now but sit in a corner together and when somebody posts a newbie thread say "We're so glad you're here! This site is so cool! HAHAHA your post was soo funny the way you said you just found this site! DO YOU LOVE US YET?!". And then slowly return to the corner when the newbie gets weirded out and leaves.

This is a topic  that gets kinda bought up a bit, Mainly due to the fact that regardless of what happens in Tour De Vizzed people will be For/Against it. 

Whilst yes the TDV does bring more activity on the board.. One has to question whether the activity is actually positive.  I mean I see a few people actively not posting reviews until a TDV month... Personally as a reviewer I would rather have people actively read my review and have people give feedback on it rather than simply posting it due to the high word nature that reviews have. Plus the reviews are often ignored due to the fact that there's at least 3x as many being posted that month..

I will have to agree that the quality of posts seems to go down as well. This point isn't aimed at anyone, I just think that some people are just naturally competitive and will rush their post whilst in other times they will take longer to structure it better. 

Regardless I'm excited to see what changes / additions David hinted at for the next TDV.

Also the first day of the TDV is always extreme in terms of posting.. Nobody would have been DQ'd yet and everyone is optimistic that they will an jersey that month.

I haven't been this tired when waking up since I was in high school, it really just killed me because of all the extra stuff I had to do to reach 12K CP. AT the start of the month, it took me 22 minutes to write some of my reviews and during the final week, it sometimes took an hour and a half to do a review of the same length. During the final week, I even had to force myself to do reviews when I was on the subway because I couldn't bring myself to do them when I could be doing other things.

I'm used to chatting and playing games on my phone until 3 AM, but after being in front of a computer and coming up with things to type now makes it impossible to stay up past midnight (11PM server)

As opposed to what leggy says, I would have to say the TDV months are when I make some of my best posts because i'm focusing on putting more detail into each post, heck, in my entire career here, the TDV months account for almost all of the months where my words per post average actually goes up.
