You're probably sick of hearing the question, but I am curious as to what you all think.

Me? I've had my own suspicions...

But I say it's Professor Oak. At the time I was investigating this, I was also going through a phase where I shipped Ash's mum, Delia, and the Pokémon Professor himself (for some reason), so I could be a little biased.
Artwork shouldn't really count, seeing as everybody in Kanto looks similar, but Ash does bear a shocking resemblance to the Professor. Same eyes, same sort of spiky hair...

Then again, Delia's pretty young.

Another piece of evidence is that Red has a similar appearance to Ash. Both are trainers, both have a Pikachu, both are powerful trainers.

I actually always thought that Ash's father was Red, to be perfectly honest.  So I agree with greenluigi, here. They look similar, go down similar paths, and seem to have some of the same mannerisms? Plus it would make sense for the first trainer in the pokemon series to be Ash's father, from a logical point of view.

I think GreenLuigi and YuniMori may be right. Ash Ketchum's father really could be Red. However, there is a possiblity that Ash's father could've passed away before the series started. If that's the case then his father could be anyone.

In an interview with one of the creators of the show he said said Ash's Dad is alive and on his own Pokemon Journey also may appear if Ash ever needs some development.

My idea is a guy named Silver that Richy meets in the Chronicle Series he seemed to have known Ash right as Richy says Ash's name, the guy has a Chikorita that hates Pokeballs just like Pikachu, a Salamence which is likes Ash's Charizard, and finally Silver starts a journey to find Moltres and Ash sees Ho-oh the day he starts his journey and wants to find out what it is.

Before seeing any of the responses in this thread I had decided that it was that Silver guy who met Richie in one of the side-stories episodes. Then I looked at the post to see if anyone else thought the same, and there was. I totally agree with you Seth Burn.
