Hi there, people from the land of V! Not sure if this can belong to the Debate forum, but I can't post there still. Anyway, do you believe in religion 100%? I sort of... Don't. Why? Because, in each religion, we still have no proofs if one of them are real. You may think we already discovered the truth, but actually, no. If you think I don't believe in God, then you're completely mislead . I'm not trying to be an atheist, or agnostic here, it's just I believe in God, and I want to do lots of good things in life, that's all. God gave me a mission, and it's to live. So far, the only message we have is there's only one God. I believe in him, but for religions, we still have no proof if one of them are real. So, I'm trying to not be naive, here. Do you believe in religion 100%?

You need to define the word "religion" these days since it can have different meanings to different people.  If by religion (a religion) you mean being a devout Muslim, Buddhist, Mormon, Jehovah's Witness, Christian, then yes.  It exists, it's there.  I don't mean to sound daft, but looking at it this way, it's 100% believable.  If by religion you mean, "being religious", I (as a Christian) would say no, since true Christianity do not believe in and depend upon religious works for their salvation.  Hope this makes sense.

Luigi, good for you for thinking and examining this sort of thing.

It is tough for us to think about how some guy walked around 2,000 years ago in Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, and other Middle Eastern countries and now Americans, and others around the world, worship him as the son of God.  It's also interesting to think that he's portrayed in many churches to be white, or very light skinned.

There are a variety of reasons to question and look at Christianity and other religions.  The easy answer is "You're having your faith tested."

Do I 100% believe everything in the Bible?  No.  It's been written, rewritten, counter-written, and changed to suit political and social goals.  No one spoke English in 3,000 BC, so there's no way the translation is perfect.  And some of the stories are easy to understand as stories but tough to follow as the literal truth.

And the whole thing about science really bothers me.

I like the idea.  Jesus said, "Let's love one another and be nice."  If that's the takeaway from religion, great.  If it turns into Westboro Baptist Church, or people who kill abortion clinic workers, or all the other wars fought over religion, people miss the point.  And that's what leads me to question it all, too.

I don't 100% believe in religion.

warmaker : I agree with everything you've said. There are still going to be debates for many years, and we will never receive an official answer. The Bible was rewritten many times, like you said, and we all have different opinions on religion. We're still doubting about religion.

I think it's a shame that that children who find these important issues worthy to speak of are kept out of the debate forum.

Yet that forum sucks to begin with.

green luigi, you can prove that the accounts of the Bible are real as much as you could prove any other historical account from that time period. It's just because some of the supernatural stuff is hard to swallow that people don't believe. Which I don't blame them. Doesn't mean it didn't happen though.

I don't like just believing anything, but I've found the Torah quite insightful and applicable to our lives. Also, what is the truth is what matters to me the most.

If The Qu'ran, or Bible is false, why are you believing it?

It the words of God are true, then serve Him. There is none other worthy of it.

While Warmaker is correct about the Bible being written, and rewritten to suite certain political goals to a certain degree, there is the original version of it that you can consult, and like anything else translating it, you can look into the source of the translator's and see if they are honest enough people to do it.

Everything in life requires faith somewhere. (Though this does not mean faith is illogical, or that you should skip logic because of it.)

And hey, you can either believe the Universe just sort of. . . came into existence, or that a knowledgeable creator made it with a purpose for human life.

It's up to you.

I don't have enough faith to believe in a Universe that came from nothing.

Nope .

Also, Green, I'm not atheistic or agnostic either, but I hope you know that they are normal groups of people with good guys and bad guys just like every other group, because it sounded like you were desperate to tell us that you weren't "evil" or something xD. Of course, you may have just been trying to avoid being looked down on by biased people who actually do believe that atheists are heartless crazies or something .

Anyway, I don't believe in religion 100%, but I do to a certain extent. I believe in God because I need to. That may have sounded horrible, but look at it this way: He is described as generous and loving and other good things and stuff, and I can be lonely sometimes, so an awesome being like God to believe in really can make me feel better. I sort of think He created the big bang, dropped a bunch of cells on Earth, and left them to evolve or something

Anyway, I am pretty skeptical, so I do not believe most of what religions say. The God I believe in isn't from any specific religion, either; He's sort of made up of the bits and pieces of the different Gods that different people with different beliefs believe in (the parts that I agree with).

I guess you could say my God is love. Also, He doesn't hate homosexuals, like many people believe He does. My God loves everyone, but He doesn't love their wrongdoings, and that's pretty much it.

I also believe in heaven and hell. I DO NOT believe gays go to hell for being gay. I believe everyone, including gays, who goes to hell, goes to hell for the same reason - committing a bunch of terrible crimes without feeling remorse. I don't even need to explain heaven, do I? Ha, ha.

Anyway, I do not believe people are born sinful and have to apologize for it once a week (no offense, but I find that awful), and I do not believe that God hates people for being anything but heterosexual.

Why would anything to have to do with love be sinful? ...

If homosexuality is a choice, according to people who back this up by saying that God does not make mistakes, I have just one question. Is autism a choice? Is cancer a choice?

Even if it
is a choice, why is it a sinful one?

Anyway, that's all I have to say for now. I respect people of different religions and those without, but my basic rule is to be nice to others and not violate anyone's rights. I don't get my morals from a book; I get them from my head and common sense. Also, no offense, but I don't really like the idea, "those who aren't like us or don't share our beliefs are going to burn in flames for eternity". Yikes...

I love some parts of religion because of how respectful and loving they teach us to be, but... some other parts are just ridiculous, in my opinion. A lot of people have died in wars because of religion, and I find that religion sets people apart instead of bringing them together. A lot of people will hate me for saying this, but what is it that truly unites us?

Doubt .

Also, I can't imagine calling myself a "good" person if my sole reason for being nice is the fear of hell.

I swear I was not trying to be disrespectful to anyone, and I may have typed this a little more aggressively than I normally would have because of something that happened today which is unrelated. I love you all.

Anyway, bottom line: I do not believe in religion 100%, and I probably never will.

God bless everyone!

Oh, yeah, almost forgot about those who don't believe in Him...

Uh...

Have an awesome day !

EDIT: Just realized this was in the Christian Conservatives forum... I guess I should have been a bit more careful. To remove any hard feelings, here's just a little something I'm sure we can all agree on.

I think I believe everything I know about the Quran, but maybe there are things I don't believe him, at this point i'm not sure, I believe in god, and that he loves everyone including homoseuals. However I do have had some issues believing angels.

But, anyway. I don't believe that Jesus is the son of god, since that is in my opinion, impossible. BUT, I don't know if I am going to believe everything the quran says, I really am not sure. I am going to read it and going to get a conclusion.
