So, I was reading a thread in this sub forum about getting a new bible, and I thought it was interesting. So, i got to wondering just how many Bibles people have.

So, how many bibles do you own? I personally have 3 to my name.

I think I own either two or three. The first one I have I must have gotten many years ago from my church, that's the oldest one. The second one is from a little Christian club at high school that I loved for many reasons. I was a member for the final few weeks of freshman year and then all of sophomore year, which was the senior year of the leaders so the group kind of disbanded and never to be seen again. They gave away all of their bibles and that one is in ny special box now where it will probably be forever. The third one was from a guy that was standing in front of my college just handing them out so I just took one and still have it.

I think I have 4 right now.

My wife and I each have our own that we study out of, I have a larger one that I use to read with the family or to my kids at bedtime and I have one that is from my grandparents that is about 100 years old or so.

geeogree : 100 years? Wow. I think the oldest that I have is 250 years? It's from my family line, and somehow tied to Andrew Jackson.

Well, it's not mine, actually. It's my Grandparents, but they said that they were going to leave it to me in their will whenever they passed.

I have 2 or 3 bibles and they are dust collectors lol.
They are the pocket bibles or whatever you call them.

Of course it's weird cause I got one bible from the principle during middle school (7th grade to be exact) even though it was not a Christian school, it was a public school, so much for freedom of religion eh?

Matthew2321 : Wouldn't freedom of religion say that he's allowed to give you that Bible, since it's an expression of his beliefs? You can always give away that Bible if you don't want it, therefore it isn't encroaching on you at all...

I currently own 4 physical Bibles, and quite a few virtual ones. I most often use my ESV Bible, but also use NKJV.

mrfe: Eh, just in my point of view it's like saying "Hey, everyone needs to be a Christian"
I mean, he
force us to take the bible.

But, that's just my opinion....

I own two bibles, one of which is a modern version with easier to read text, this is the one I find myself using the most frequently. It's in a certain format that I don't quite remember, but it is really clear and easy to read. I'm not quite sure how many bibles my entire family owns, but if I had to guess, I would probably say about six to eight. Everyone in my family has at least one, that I know for sure, but I don't quite know the exact number.

I personally own 8 hard copies of the bible. Most of them are read so much that they're torn, that's why I got the new one.
Two or them are the same, one is a children's bible, one is a study bible (gives study information about the passages) and the rest are normal bibles (Presbyterian).

I own a New International Version bible. There was a Youth Group in my school on Wednesdays that lasted for a few weeks of 7th grade, and at the end of one of those days, they offered bibles for people to keep as their own for good, so I picked one up.

I am the proud owner of 2 Bibles. One I've had since 2004, my dad got it for me. And it's also not in the best shape. I like to highlight and underline scriptures that speak to me as I'm reading through. It's NIV.
I also have a KJV that I bought maybe two years ago. That one I've also written/highlighted/underlined in...

For me personally, I have 3 Bibles. I had both a pocket Bible (NKJV) and a Teen Study Bible (NIV) when I was in high school and I bought my own ESV Bible when I was in college. My family has more Bibles so I sometimes would use theirs when I was little.

Is this a competition? I did not know you would need more than one.

Or is this some kind of a cultural thing? You have to have one bible per firearm or something?

But yeah, okay. One.

Brigand :  I was reluctant to reply to this thread due to the reason that you've stated.  No, it shouldn't be a competition and a bragging contest.  Reading the replies it seems it didn't turn out that way.  I personally think it doesn't matter how many Bibles one own (although I'm sure this is not what the OP intended).  It is however, interesting for me to see what translation people are using and what made you decide to go for the particular version.  I know, I know, it's not important at all.  What is important however, is that you actually USE the Bible/s that you own.  It is better to have one bible and study it front to back, back to front than have 10 Bibles lying around, gathering dust.  In our house we have 8 Bibles.  Here's the breakdown why:

2 We received as gifts for our twin babies.
1 in my home language has become tattered from all the carting around so I bought a new one, also in my home language.
1 is my wife's Bible also in our home language which contains a lot of "technical" detail and explains scripture in context.  She uses that mainly for reference.
1 Is a kids Bible that of course belongs to my 4 year old son.
1 Is a NIV translation used mainly by my wife
1 Is my NKJV bible, which is my "workhorse".  I also use the NIV translation as reference when I don't fully understand the wording in the NKJV since the NIV has been written in a more "general" sense to make it more understandable and for easier reading.
