A few days ago it came to my attention that the Playstation will turn 20 years old this December. It can out in Japan on December 3, 1994. As a way to celebrate, I was thinking that the entire month of November (or December) could be "Playstation" month. Basically what this would mean is that all of the "Game of Week" and "Game of Day" games would be Playstation games (and this would go on until December 3rd), all of the RGR Competitions would be for Playstation games and I'd possibly even discount the Playstation item to 30,000 Viz.

One of the reasons I'd consider doing it November instead of December is because it would allow me to tally up the results of the RGR competitions (one would be a PSX music competition) and make videos out of them and have them ready in time for December 3rd. The other reason is because I'll have every Playstation game added by the time October is over which means by November, the site will have every Playstation game.

What do you guys think of the idea of having a "Playstation" month and which month should it take place?

I think this is a good idea. It'd be a great way to celebrate the PSX's 20th year anniversary by hosting a series of competitions in December.

I think that it should be in December. December is the actual " birth " month of the PlayStation, so it should be held in December. Also, you could say that discount is your Christmas gift to the people of Vizzed. 

This sounds like a great idea, especially with the PlayStation TV coming out this month and next month, there's a lot to be said and done about Playstation.

I think that the "official" Playstation month should be December. However, I think you should do things for both months. An idea is to follow through with your plan for November, prepare the videos for December 3rd, and use those videos to kick off an even bigger celebration for the PSX. You could do a "countdown" of the 50 greatest PSX games (according to voters or your own list), and kick off the new year with the top game from the list. Starting November 12th, a new daily PSX game would be offered, starting at #50.

supernerd117 : Those are definitely good ideas. Since it's a 20th anniversary, I could do the top 20 games according to vizzed and maybe even stream for an hour each day or something.

Despite of the fact that I haven't played any Playstation game in my life so far, I think that this is a good idea to do.

I have a suggestion to this event though. Maybe you can do some sort of vote or something about the best game from Playstation as well.

Honestly, I find this idea to be great. The timing is also good, with the Playstation list getting completed and being added on the RGR publicly, the amount of people growing interest will also increase, so this will be the perfect opportunity to give them a chance of being able to play. I'm sure making it free would be a problem and probably strain the servers too much, but maybe we could come up with a few requirements to make it temporarily free during the Event? Just throwing that idea out there.

I would also like to say that I think recording videos will be an issue for a lot of people, seeing how the current Mega Competition is going, not to mention the fact PSX games are more complicated to record than other systems... Which is probably the reason why there has been almost no PSX videos (if any in fact) so far. They take longer to render since you have to use an external program for recording footage. Maybe a video competition should be kept out.

Some good feedback so far, I'm currently leaning toward doing the "Playstation Month" in December.

mvhupsel : I agree, I can't believe how awesome the timing is. Adding a nearly complete Playstation collection to vizzed and the Playstation turns 20 years old soon after; it's crazy to think that this wasn't even planned lol.

Temporarily free isn't a bad idea. Maybe for just 1 day, December 3rd, I could make Playstation games free to everyone (logged in users of course). That's a great idea actually.

Some of the Playstation games doesn't record very good with the RGR Plugin so users would have to use an external program for some of the games. The reason I think doing a video competition involving Playstation is a good idea is because it'll draw in a lot of traffic and attention from YouTube. Users will more than likely find out about the Playstation being 20 years old from site's like IGN and will therefore be searching for Playstation related stuff. If the Vizzed YouTube account is pumping out Playstation videos during this time, we can get a lot of hits.

Davideo7 : instead of offering one free day, what about making a week or two where the psx item is hall off? Also, like this months video contest, what about making a very small psx streaming contest? Some users might like that.

I say November is by far the better month to do this in. December has christmas to deal with, and people go away around that time to. Also, around the second week of december, many people have exams, and usually just before exams big projects are due. Think from the point of view of your target market.

I'm so in favor of this idea.  I would love to try the playstation emu out here.  I haven't had the vizz so far cuz you got Saturn and my vizz has been going to those games lately but they tend to be glitchy.  I think something like half off might even make the boards more active because I know myself for one would be trying to get the vizz up to buy the item half-off.  Also ghostfishy never played a playstation game?  How, what, I, just fix that.

bobq : Yeah I was almost thinking that December is a busy month. On top of the things you mentioned, we also have Vizzed Board's 10 Year Anniversary.

fightorace : Yeah a lot of Saturn games aren't fully playable but the compatibility rate with Playstation games is much higher.

Yeah I'm not even sure how that's for ghostfishy to go this long without playing a Playstation game lol.

This whole thread is making me very excited about December.... and I don't even know a thing about Playstation! haha!

I was coming here to say that I lean towards December, since it's the anniversary month. However, I understand why November might be more logical. I think supernerd's idea was a great compromise, if it's not something that would be difficult to do.

Oh man... I can't wait for that December forum theme!!!!  

I really like this idea, as it gives a cool meaning to the Playstation's game collection being finished! I would have to say that since December is the actual month when it's the Playstation's birthday, it should be then. But it's whatever. I am really excited about this anniversary and December now!

PlayStation month is a good idea. I would prefer it happen in November. I had a PlayStation when I was young.
