Intense. I wish all the residents of Texas the best of health. This disease has devastated parts of Africa already, and to know its in north america now scares the crap out of me, and Im sure so many more people as well.

About a month ago, there was concern that there was an ebola case in Ontario, and people were freaking out. Fortunately it was a false alarm.

To those in the threat area of Texas, I hope you take full precautions and stay safe. Familiarize yourself with the dangers of the disease and how it spreads so you can know how to avoid contracting it. Be safe.

I had no idea that it was in Texas, I do hope that not too much happens and that it can be controlled before anything bad happens. I don't realy know much about what it does, but I still no that it's scary and needs to be taken extremley seriously.

My Intro Physics teacher told my class about that today. If I remember correctly, it can cause puking, massive sweating, and more. Also, and this is for sure, it's deadly. It's very difficult for people to survive through it. I'm going to be praying for the people of Texas, for a cure to be found, and for the virus to not continue spreading. D=

Hopefully, it doesn't get up here to where I live in Washington. 

Thoughts are going out to all of the people in Texes. 

If it gets anywhere close to New England, I'm jumping ship to Old England.

The virus itself, like many other sicknesses, spreads through bodily fluids. In other words, it's not airborne, and that means there's a few things you can do to prevent yourself from getting sick.

Its not even that contagious. Bird flu is a more realistic threat.

I hate the sound of ebola, whether or not it is really that bad isn't as bad as the fact that it is actually in the US. I really hope that residents of Texas take care of themselves and I hope it doesn't go any more widespread than that. From what I hear, it liquefies your internal organs, and most people die within 10 to 15 days of getting it. I really hope that people create a cure for this virus...it sounds awful and I hope that it doesn't spread anywhere....I can imagine that one person will probably get on a plane, then see family and then it will spread from there...

This is a good way to strategize. Us should harness the power of ebola and throw it to Isis so they can get contaminated and die off one by one. We were given the gift of the disease that will stop isis

Ebola is indeed a scary disease, but I'm not all that worried about getting it.  I feel deeply sorry for those that have it though, and I'll continue to pray for them.

Analyse that. If you get it, it is Usually fatal.
OK, fair enough. But don't just make assumptions off that.

It takes about 5 days for Ebola to become infectious. By that time, its apparent they are unwell. Thus, people arent going to be walking around spreading it. This isnt like the common cold, achoo, you are infected.

How do you get it?
"People can become infected with the Ebola virus if they come into contact with the blood, body fluids or organs of an infected person."
Much like HIV then, except HIV is harder to see, and yet, is still going down in regards to yearly infections.


"An infected person will typically develop a fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, sore throat, and intense muscle weakness. These symptoms start suddenly, between 2 and 21 days after becoming infected, but usually after 5-7 days.

Summary: after around 5 days the symptoms will start kicking in.
This is also, conveniently, the point at which they become infectious. Once the effects kick in, they will be bed ridden. Most people who are infected are those caring for the sick individual (such as your family).
Not random passers by.
Given that the USA has far better health care, and is on the lookout, you can also expect the much more favourable 50% recovery rate (although thats still high).
The symptoms are also pretty clear, if you are vomiting and breaking out in rashes, that alone is worth a doctor taking a look. The bleeding is a real give away.

How, in a 1st world country, with above average healthcare, do you expect the epidemic to beat all previous trends?

So again, calm down. Its just a media scare, its not going to become an epidemic, and the situation is well within hand.
Do some research instead of choosing to remain ignorant of the facts. You will save yourself a lot of stress.

Pretending for one moment, that ebola is even deadly enough to kill a significant number of people, it would be as likely to kill civilians as IS militants. More likely in fact, because the civilians are poorer, whereas the militants have money and supply's.

Well, since I live in Florida, I am sort of concerned about this. I'm basically trapped on a peninsula so if for some reason airports were closed, I'd have to find a way out of Florida to the North. I'm confident that it won't become a big epidemic in the United States/North America though.

I knew this would happen eventually. Luckily as I live in Sweden the disease hasn't come to me yet, but it's probably only a matter of time before it reaches Europe. However I don't think it will turn into some kind of pandemic causing million people to die or anything like that as the we're much more better prepared to deal with it today then we were before. It will probably cause a lot more deaths in poor regions such as most African countries though.

I nearly got a heart-attack when I heard about the Ebola in the United States. What's worse is that it's contagious! I hope for the best for the future of our country.

The person infected is quarantined from what I've heard. I wish those infected to good health but it doesn't really concern me.

As I understand it, while it has popped up here in Texas, it hasn't really spread.
I'm still on alert of course, but as stated, ebola isn't highly contagious, and they have done a lot to make sure it doesn't get around.
Pretty much just an isolated instance, and they quickly picked up and observed everyone the man had contact with.
The CDC has moved quickly on this, and no other symptoms have been shown in anyone else.
This is something that I was very concerned about, has it happened in Dallas TX, which is just a couple hours away from me.
However, everything shows it has an isolated instance.
Just to be safe, I'm being extra careful with what I touch,
But still, I don't think there is much to worry about.
