Hello everyone! So this thread is about something I've noticed quite a bit recently. I have several friends who are mentally disabled in some kind of way. One of their names is Jordan. Now Jordan is the sweetest guy you could ever hope to meet. He has autism, dyslexia, and assbuergers. (I'm not sure if that's how it's spelled but that's what I'm assuming.) He has also had a kidney transplant and dialysis. But one thing about him is very unusual. He does not feel pain at all. I watched him playing football when we were with a bunch of friends. He stepped right into a fire ant mound and just stood there waiting for the ball to be thrown. He didn't even notice the ants stinging his legs at all and when someone asked him about it he just looked down and shrugged. "It don't hurt," he said. I asked his cousin about it later and his cousin said that he's never seen Jordan react to pain at all and as far as he knew Jordan couldn't feel pain.

What have you guys got to say?

Clears throat* I will like to say something to this....I am pretty much like your friend. So...I think in a way not all mental disabled people have it. That could be a build up of years of pain? That's what I think....sorry he has those conditions as well. I think he could of build his body physically as well, not to feel so much pain and whatnot...

thenumberone : Here's something you might want to reply too. :/

apeman : The way that you describe it sounds like CIP (Congenital insensitivity to pain), and it is a disorder that is very dangerous to have. You might think of it like a "superpower". but it's not. He may not feel pain, but it doesn't mean that his body is not damaged by the things that you described. This means if there is a life threatening thing that is happening to his body, his body would be damaged or destroyed from it, but he won't feel it. If his family doesn't know about it, they need to go get that monitored.

play4fun : I do understand this but this isn't the only thing I've seen like this. I have another friend who's name is Tim. Tim is dyslexic and has a few other mental and physical problems I won't go into, The interesting thins is he can't read or do math. But he can paint the most amazing pictures I have ever seen. In all seriousness this man is like a Van Gogh of sorts as far as his artistic range and talent go. Again another instance of a superpower. When I say superpower I don't mean what most people would consider a power. I mean an ability that you can do better than almost anyone. It can be anything from a musical ability to strength.

I was going to say what playforfun said.
That being said, its not surprising disabled people would excel in other areas. Being dyslexic, having downs syndrome etc doesn't mean you are stupid, it just means you struggle in certain areas. Theres no reason they cant apply themselves in other areas, or excel in the areas they find difficult if they apply themselves.
Albert Einstein was dyslexic, there are people with downs syndrome that have gone through college.
Its not a superpower, they just aren't stupid.

thenumberone : I'm not trying to insinuate that the disabled are stupid. If it seems like that then I apologize.

Excelling in any activity can be a superpower I would again like to point out. Albert Einstein wasn't the only famous person who had Autism. It's been speculated the Mozart did too.

thenumberone has a good point to this.......I was waiting for what he had to say, and that's really the basic truth. Here's how I feel...I wouldn't call it superpower. But simply can do somethings that not all people can do. And in certain areas as thenumerone has said. What I feel...I feel its weird for me in a way, to know what I can do. And how good I can do those things in a way. I am hiding something that not all people would know of, due to what they will say about it and such.....its kind  believable, and unbelievable that of what we disabled people can do intelligent wise...

thenumberone : Thanks for your post. It makes more sense now....at times we feel stupid because of what people say, of how stupid we look appearance wise. Which makes it really discouraging....but if you have support, then you wouldn't feel as stupid as you would think...

We too can try our best on things that we want people to see. And for them to also see that, we are capable of doing somethings like real life people out there...its strange....we posses some gifts not all people have which I guess gets a lot of people mad. And that's how we get bullied for it...out of jealousy...

apeman : It's Asperger's. I used to think it was spelled something like that way (back around when I was diagnosed with it), but learned the correct spelling and had a good laugh. And yes, we do have superpowers! But so does everyone else...

Well... I guess you guys got off the topic of the no pain thing, but I think I might know what that is. In somewhat rare cases, there are people who are born without nerve endings, or they were damaged at a young age. What happens with this is that since there are no nerve endings, or they have been severly damaged, the electrical signals that cause pain in your body cannot get from the surface of your skin/nerves to the brain. So what happens is they cannot feel the pain snice there is no signal for it. And since you said that he has some mental disabilities, that means that somewhere along the line of being born, there was a mutation (I'm not trying to sound mean be saying this, it's a theory that I have). Since there was a mutation in one place, I would think that it's very possible that he might have been born without the nerve endings. And like Play said, this is a very bad thing because this person would need to be trained to recognize threats to their body. Also, I might be wrong since you say that his cousin never sees him react to pain, since I don't really know if it's possible to be born without nerve endings all throughout your body. I think that it's just some areas of your body, like you hands for example.

jack3604 : Though it may seem not right. Anything can happen the way you are born mental wise, even of what apeman has said....if his cousin says that hes ok, then he is fine. But otherwise, play is kind of right of him needing to go and check that part out...

apeman : Does he take medications ape?

apeman :
Dyslexic can make you be bad at Reading and Math, of course, but theres higher chances you'll have a talent like Very well Drawings, I'm a bit good at reading, not that good though, not that good at Math, but drawing... Okay no Mario does not look like that, that is not Bowser, do you consider that Donkey Kong? Kirby doesn't even look like Kirby!!
I can't draw, but I do like to draw Stick though, like stages of a single frame of a game that doesn't exist out of stick, I'm good at that, but that's about it, the only talent I got is memorise the dates of a specific date, the first time I got hurt by a Bee, was in December, on a Thursday, I think 2006 or 2007. I got New Super Mario Bros. Wii on November 9th 2010. I got internet on my 3DS on 10th October 2013, and lost the ability again on *Can't remember date*

Hello, I have Autism as well and I have a high pain tolerance. Autism is neurological mostly so some on the the spectrum cannot feel pain. Some of us can feel pain but have a high pain tolerance.  It has to do with the nerves and how we are wired
