I would probably go with the screw attack. If anything, I would find that the most useful due to the hazards over the years of the game. I find it the most useful powerup in the game too.

I hate to agree with the only other person that has posted in this thread so far, but my favorite Metroid power up is also the screw attack. I love how Samus turns into a rotating energy blade of destruction, and it destroys almost anything instantly on contact. Oh, by the way, I also love the way she uses it on Super Smash Bros. In fact, Samus is also my favorite character on that game.

My favorite of all powerups is probably the Plasma Beam, specifically from Metroid 2 or fusion. It feels so refreshing after using the Power/Ice Beams for the whole game, and then getting my hands on the most overpowered Beam in existance. Its ability in Metroid 2 to travel through walls like the Wave Beam, and its standard piercing ability made it amazingly useful, and when combined with the Wave Beam in Fusion, it becomes the bane of the X's existance.

:3I love been able to roll everywhere and only wished it was faster (luckily speed up exist in the emulator xD)

My absolute favorite is the Screw Attack, for reasons already mentioned. Other ones I'm really fond of are Space Jump, Plasma+Wave+Ice Beam combo especially Charged, and Speed Booster because I love seeing Samus rocket herself through enemies, the air, and solid objects at high speeds.

Screw attack for original metroid. Super metroid I would have to say the super missile. Screw attack you can just legit float in the air practically and go places. Super missile shakes the screen and makes a really cool sound efx.

My favorite Metroid Power-Up would definitely have to go to the Screw Attack. As i've said in a speed run video of mine of youtube (maximum12105) i love having all out power and the ability to create 'Mass Freakin Murder'. So yeah, with thousands of volts of electricity, the Screw Attack is my favorite Power-Up.

I've always loved the original Morph Ball. It's the first power up you get in the game, and it's iconic in the Metroid series. It's also very fun to use! Finding hidden passageways and such. I just love it.

   My favorite would be the Ice Shot. Being able to freeze people lets you move on without having to defeat the enemy a lot, so it helps when traversing the area a lot. It also is helpful when trying to take down multiple enemies at a time. I think it's the most useful in terms of how often it's used and it's potential power.
