My cousin, Jason Vosler, was just drafted in the 16th round (469th overall pick) by the Chicago Cubs!

He is a shortstop and he was in his junior year of college at Northeastern University. He was the first player from Northeastern to get drafted this year.

On the downside he got drafted by the Cubs.

You can't really get any unluckier than that...

All joking aside, congratulations to him, getting drafted is a pretty big deal.

It may actually be a good thing to get picked by the Cubs. Since they are bad, he may have a better chance of making it to the majors.

I'm also glad the Red Sox didn't draft him. Seeing as he's a shortstop, and our shortstop depth... we don't need him. We already have Xander in the majors (despite the move to third for 2014, he is the shortstop in 2015 and beyond unless someone big comes through the system), and we have a system that already has Deven Marrero (think Jose Iglesias), Tzu-Wei Lin (same type of player, but less likely to reach it), and we also have Mookie Betts (who could well be the shortstop, and is playing out of his mind right now), Sean Coyle, and a few others who could play short.

Not to mention that we drafted Michael Chavis, who no offense to your cousin, is "far" more likely to make the majors, given his first round status. Could be a tremendous SS.

We just wouldn't have room for him

True, if he was drafted by a team like the Mets, who despretley need a shortstop, it would be at least 1 full year before he even makes it to Single A. Though it just so happens that the Cubs Top Prospect is a Shortstop.

Who knows, maybe in a few years he will be in the majors on one team or another. I say September 2018 at the earliest if he performs well.


You should be so happy for him.

But still...It had to be the clubs? ha ha I kid of course, this is really great.

Hey congrats! That is really a big deal! In sports I can't think of a greater honor than getting drafted into a team!

I, I feel dumb saying this, but, I saw this on my News Feed, and I only came here to say the army doesn't draft anymore. I'll just go cry now.

That's pretty cool, I congratulate him because that is a pretty big accomplishment to get drafted into a team...and the first one at that! I really don't know all that much about baseball since I don't watch it, but I honestly think it is a big deal to get drafted at all, despite the team you are on...but that is just my opinion. 


So congrats to him and I hope enjoys every minute of it. 

The Cubs are my second favorite baseball team. Bad thing they aren't that good. At least he got drafted at number 469! I feel truly happy for him. It's rare getting drafted. But I'm pretty sure he won't get that much playing time.

I know that I am a bit late to the party but...CONGRATS! I'm a big baseball fan (have been playing since I was 5) and the Cubs happen to be my second favorite team, next to the Tigers. Hopefully he gets plenty of playing time and can really show his skill on the field, whether it is a practice or a game!

It's one thing that you see random strangers play in popular national sports but to have a relative in a famous national team is a completely different and exciting thing. I wish him the best of luck in his future career as well as playing for his passion!

Good luck to him.  I go to my local Round Rock Express baseball games all the time.  Most of those guys will never play in the big leagues but still living the dream in my opinion.
