psaetahn : I know I said I’d PM this to you guys, but I’ve alluded to it enough in conversations that I feel like it could be interesting to people to read it. So, now I tell the story of my near-death experience. From 1996-1997, my parents went to China to teach English. They went to a small, very secluded city in eastern China (if memory serves). They were technically assigned to that city by the company they went with, and the joke was that this city was ‘isolationville’. Considering how many people are in China, and where in the country it was, that’s a pretty crazy and accurate nickname. They had electricity and heat for like 4 hours a day, no heated showers, and the water wasn’t clean (they boiled their own water). Students had it worse, having about 2 hours of electricity per day. During the winter, it got so cold that my mom actually got frostbite on her feet despite wearing literally everything she could and being under blankets and stuff. It was really rough. Anyway, somewhere in this time, my mom discovered she was pregnant (despite being told she wasn’t able to have children, and she’s been pregnant 4 times with 3 kids). Since they were only staying for the school year, and my due date was August 12th, they decided to stay until their term was over. I had other plans though. I didn’t want to wait until August, and decided that May was a much better time of year to be born (that’s 3 months premature). Now, as a bit more background, they had one hospital there. It really wasn’t much of a city, you could really classify it as a town or something. Because of the culture and the one child policy in China at the time, this hospital did not invest in equipment to care for babies as premature as I was. When my mom went into labor 3 months early, they (of course) rushed to the hospital. The doctor there basically told them that (quote from my parents) “It’s alright, you can always have another kid later”. That really didn’t sit well with my parents, as you can probably understand, because that was saying ‘this kid is going to die’. They stayed though, because they really didn’t know what else to do. Now, as I’m sure most people reading this are aware (warning, here’s where it gets a bit weird), when a woman goes into labor the fluid surrounding the child in her uterus gets released. That’s why people say that your water breaks when you go into labor. Anyway, of course, this happened to my mom. This fluid is gone once it leaves, and it doesn’t come back that late into child development. Look it up, lol. Ok, so right now in the story my mom and dad are freaking out in the hospital as my mom is in labor. If I’m born, I die. No question, no chance in this situation. All they can do is keep my mom alive because of the poor equipment. So, my parents are freaking out and if I knew what was gonna happen I would freak too. So yeah. Doctors don’t really care, because of the one child policy at the time. Alright, here’s where it really gets interesting. As my parents are freaking out, they (being Christians) decide to pray about it. I don’t know how long it was after they prayed, but after praying they felt a really strong presence encouraging them to leave. It’s not like they heard words, but they just knew they were being told to leave the hospital. Most people would have stayed, but my parents didn’t. They trusted God, and got up and walked away. They left everything: Passports, money, suitcases, etc., and left for the airport immediately. As they walked away, the doctor followed them cussing and telling them that my mom would die if they didn’t get back in the hospital right away. Honestly, I don’t know if I could have made the same call, but they did and I’m thankful they did. After they left (I think it was on the way to the airport), my mom noticed her uterus filling back up with the same fluid (remember, this is physically impossible). With many thankful prayers, my parents headed back to BC, Canada, where they lived before going to China. After 3 months, I was born 6 days late. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the story of how I almost died as a kid. If you doubt it, my mom will tell you all about the labor pains she had and all about the stress and such she and my dad went through. This has really been the main reason I gave my life to God. I can’t deny what happened, nor the impossibility of it. If my mom’s body was incapable of that, then there must have been an outside influence on her body to cause her uterus to fill back up with the fluid. Obviously, with the equipment rural China would have used in 1997, it wasn’t a doctor who helped. In fact, all he offered was keeping her alive. If a doctor couldn’t help my mom, then the only other option I see is that of a supernatural being keeping me alive for some reason. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this long story about my near-Chinese birth. My sisters used to put ‘made in China’ stickers on me as a joke, lol. Anyway, secret summons of people I told I would share this story with or who I feel might enjoy this. If I summoned you, and you didn't want a summon, I apologize. psaetahn : I know I said I’d PM this to you guys, but I’ve alluded to it enough in conversations that I feel like it could be interesting to people to read it. SoL@R : My pleasure man, I'm glad you enjoyed reading it! Whenever I think back to this story, I can't help but get a rush from thinking about the awesome and undeserved love God has shown me throughout my life, and I get excited thinking about what purpose He must have saved me for!
I'm doing fairly well, how are you? (btw, we might want to take this to profile comments to avoid getting off topic in here lol) I'm doing fairly well, how are you? (btw, we might want to take this to profile comments to avoid getting off topic in here lol) |

mrfe : That is an incredibly awesome story. My mom made a similar sacrifice. Mom had fallen down the stairs while she was pregnant with me and hurt her back badly. A doctor told her to abort me. But I'm glad she didn't. Right now the Pine Sol commercial slogan is going through my head right now, with the word "prayer" or "moms" substituted for Pine Sol. Both are even better than Pine Sol. mrfe : What's so special about that? All of you were just talking and murmuring to yourselves thinking that the God inside your own heads are listening to you. They feel encouraged afterwards. So what? It was all in you since day one. All that is left is for you to acknowledge your own potentials. YOU ARE YOUR OWN GOD. How about you try to explore and understand yourself before you slap others about what you believe. Until you have accepted yourself of who you really are then you will be capable of understanding anything that concerns about "God" and anything related to that. As for me I don't need a God to tell me what is wrong and right. You Christians don't have the right to tell what to believe either. But when you tell us that we are evil because of who we are then that is another story. Beware. You only believe and pray while we investigate and think for ourselves. Anyone can see the difference of idiocy between the two. Sorry. But I don't see anything in your story that proves God existence, which still makes prayer as useless as your own God. |

psaetahn : You are relying all your claims just purely on the stereotype that Christians tell others what to do and believe in. YOU have no right to judge his beliefs, or an entire religion like that. Just accept the fact that others believe differently then you. It's great you have an opinion on the matter, but don't just go head on head arguing with it. It is just an opinion, nothing more. You both believe different truths, just stay with yours and don't try to change his. YOU have no right to judge his beliefs, or an entire religion like that. FunnyFurret : Well said. Then he should or you should have done have you have preached. I'm not the one forcing him to believe what I believe. I got here because of a post in another thread. This is his idea of telling me that I should believe him. And yes. I have tons of back up reasoning and scientific explanations if you like me to dispose off regarding about the CLAIMS that you speak of. Only if I find you interesting to talk with that is. |

mrfe : oh my god, THAT was friggen awesome. Yep, always listen to your doctors cause their ALWAYS RIGHT eh? So aside from my theories of doctors having no souls, it's pretty amazing how the near impossible happened. Just goes to show how god truly represents life. mrfe : oh my god, THAT was friggen awesome. Yep, always listen to your doctors cause their ALWAYS RIGHT eh? psaetahn : I did not summon you here in hopes of convincing you of God's existence, nor did I want this to turn into a debate, but I summoned you solely so you could read about the impossibility that occurred in my life. The point is that my mom's uterus could not have filled with fluid, yet it did. There has to be an outside influence there. I'm not forcing you to believe what I do, nor is that even close to my intent. Because it was relevant to the topic at hand in the other thread, I figured I'd summon you. No other reason.
Also, if I'm a God, then I'm a quite crappy one lol. I have hurt people, I have ruined friendships, I have failed assignments, etc. If I'm a God, then I'm a pretty awful one lol. We all are. Also, I assume that you're saying that we are our own source of purpose and meaning? How can me, a finite being, be the source of purpose and meaning? That just doesn't make sense to me. Don't think I've just been brainwashed into this Christian thing. See, I became a Christian AFTER being an agnostic, atheist, etc. I've tried everything else, and wasn't satisfied. I felt like a piece of me was gone, like I was purposed for more than what I was doing. Eventually, after a few years of this, I finally decided to try the Christian thing. I think it's worked out so far, lol. Also, if I'm a God, then I'm a quite crappy one lol. Read it and thought what some users would say skimmed a few posts I didn't see what I was looking for.
But anyways sounds lucky you were able to live being 3 months earlier. Also some of the stuff like to the airport is creepy and would rather keep it out of my head. Another thing though when did she tell you this story? But anyways sounds lucky you were able to live being 3 months earlier. I dont know enough about the biological process of birthing to state one way or another the reasoning of your birth. That being said im pretty confident someone with experience in this area (a doctor for example) would be able to reason why this occured.
Looking at the flip side, if god controlled your survival, he controlled the crisis to begin with (he controls everything?). If I push you off a ledge, and catch your hand as you fall, that doesent make me a hero. Equally, a child dies every 4 seconds. Around 20,000 children die every day. The parents pray, yet it does them no good. And what did the child do to deserve this? Why create life only to snuff it out? You could argue that it was to teach some kindd of lesson, but if I killed a child to teach a lesson, would I be considered good? I hope not. "Also, if I'm a God, then I'm a quite crappy one lol. I have hurt people, I have ruined friendships, I have failed assignments, etc." You havent killed someone. God has. You havent allowed, or even instigated individuals to rape, God has. I could go through a list of crimes that god would be guilty of, but I think you get what im infering here. Of course the idea of god is that such things as humans, and the earth could not simply appear, that they must be designed. But that doesent solve the question, it simply changes it. How can it be, that we cant exist without a designer, yet god, much more complex and powerfull, does exist without a creator? At any rate, its good you didnt die. mrfe :
I understand why you put this thread here, since it best belongs to the Your forum. However, I don't understand why you summoned the two people in this thread to prove a point, when PMing them the details would have sufficed. Because of that, you have instigated arguments from them about your experience and your beliefs. Last time I checked, debating isn't one of the the purposes of this forum. thenumberone : psaetahn : As I've stated above, debating isn't one of the purposes of this forum. However, I believe that this thread's main purpose wasn't to start a debate. But it does seem like a (maybe unintentional) secondary purpose. So if you guys would like to continue on with this topic, I ask that you start a thread about it in the Debate/Logic/News forum. With that said, no more debates about the Christian God, or any other gods, in this forum. Thank you. I understand why you put this thread here, since it best belongs to the Your forum. Mistress : My intention was not to start a debate in this thread, rather I summoned them in reference to another discussion we were having. My intent was that it would play into the discussion in the other thread, rather than start a debate in this thread. I admit, it was rather poorly thought out. I apologize. |

mrfe : I'm a bit late with this but what a cool story! That's one of the biggest miracles I've ever heard of (not that I have heard many). I hope God will protect you for the rest of your life, this is amazing! |
