The console wars truly has lived on past the consoles that was warring. The main contenders in the US was Sega and Nintendo. Sega with the Genesis and Nintendo with the Super Nintendo has built a huge fan base that is ever growing and it seems this war has gotten worse and worse. Lets go over some of the things that makes these consoles great.

   (Console design) The Sega Genesis model one has one of the best designs of all time, it is round on top, square on the bottom, it just looks so sleek and attractive. The model two was smaller and looked dark and menacing. The Super Nintendo had a boxy look to it and a whiteish color that turns pee yellow over time on some consoles. I really think Sega Genesis wins every time when it comes to the look of the console. The Super Nintendo does have a model two but it is not as iconic as the model one Super Nintendo.

   (Music/sound effects) The Super Nintendo has a nice clean sound to its music. The sound effects are smooth and over all it has much crisper music than the Sega Genesis. The Sega had a rough and just hardcore sound to it. It has a Punk sound, just pure rock n roll. That is why I like the Genesis better when it comes to music, both consoles had games with great sound tracks but Genesis was rough and tough and didn't care if you didn't like it.

   (Graphics) I truly believe that the Genesis could handle better graphics over the Super Nintendo. Gun Star Heros just wouldn't work on the Snes. The Super Nintendo had what seemed like cartoonie graphics, they were very smooth and colorful. Genesis had fast and colorful graphics (BLAST PROCESSING).

   (Games) Each console had its great characters and games. Sega had Sonic, Strider, Ecco, Toejam and Earl. Nintendo had Mario, Zelda, Kirby, and Star Fox. It really depends on your tastes on which console you feel has better games and characters.

My vote goes for Sega. I love Sega but did you notice how I didn't bad mouth Nintendo? It is rare these days to see fan boys not fighting saying "Nintendo sucks!" "No Sega sucks.". Lets not fight. Tell me nicely why you think your console is better and what you like about the other console.

Well I never really play the sega genesis but my grandpa has a super nintendo so I play that a lot. I loved donkey kong country so I personally say the Super Nintendo. All though the sega genesis did have sonic I just have to go with the super nintendo.

Oh yes the original console wars.  SNES had better graphical capablities with more colors and higher resolution while the Genesis was faster and more responsive.  A perfect example of this is MKII.  The SNES version looks closer to the arcade but the Genesis version would control better (combos were more easily pulled off and closer to the arcade version).

fightorace : I feel that Sega Genesis can get neck and neck with the Super Nintendo when it comes to graphics. Stuff like Aladdin, Gun Star Heros, and the Sonic games really show that Sega was just as good even though the console itself isn't as powerful when it comes to graphics. Also the Sega CD and 32x puts it over the top. I just don't understand why people get so worked up over which one is better. I have seen people find personal info about a person and insult them just because they like a different console.

GenesisJunkie : This may come as a surprise to you but i prefer the SNES over the sega megadrive. I'm a big fan of the 8 Bit Sega consoles but not a real fan of the megadrive. I have a lot of memories from the SNES games. (i used an SNES emulator for the PS2 lol)the sound was a lot better then what the megadrive had to offer. The controller was better and the graphics were better AND of course the games were better. I'm also not a huge fan of the 16 bit sonic games in my opinion 8 bit is where it's at with sega.

I pretty much grew up with the Super Nintendo and I have so many good memories of its games. SNES made me fall in love with franchises like Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Bomberman, Seiken Densetsu and many many more. I don't have anything bad to say about the Sega Genesis and my opinion only stands on the fact that I'm more familiar with SNES.

I think that the Super Nintendo Entertainment System is better than the Sega Genesis because its sound and graphics is smoother than the Sega Genesis's and I think that it has better games on it than the Sega Genesis does.

Probably one of the hardest decisions of my life but I just have to go with the Sega MegaDrive (which is what it's called outside of America).

Just because of games like Sonic The Hedgehog, Aladdin (which I prefer over the SNES version) etc.

Zlinqx : Oh man, I love Aladdin for the Genesis. That is one of my favorite games of all time! Yeah, the Genesis version is much better than the Soup version. For the most part I feel that most games that are on both consoles, the Genesis version is normally better in one way or another. I do like the Super Nintendo but I will always love Sega and all of its consoles.

SNES. It has so many great games that to me it's hard to argue with. The three main ones that come to my mind are Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Earthbound, and Chrono Trigger. I have always been a Nintendo person (though I think main Mario games are some what boring while even new Sonic games are amazing), and the Sega was really a let down to me. Even the original Sonic games were a little under whelming when I actually played them. SNES gets my vote.

Super Mega Man 568 : It was the total opposite for me. I was (and still am) blown away by the Sega Genesis, and always feel a little let down by what the Super Nintendo has to offer. I don't play it much but I do play it, the Snes is in no way a bad console, I can't stress that enough but I will always love the Genesis above all others.

Really nether console is better than the other. They are both equally great, and whether you are a Sega man like me or a Nintendo fan boy, I think we should be able to get along. 

I'm going to vote for the Super Nintendo here. I feel that it's the overall better console, more well known. I grew up playing the NES and SNES, and I am a huge Nintendo fan boy, so i'm also gonna vote for them for nostalgic reasons. While I did have the Genesis as well, and I thought the games were fantastic, I feel that the SNES impacted me more, and was always the better console for me.

I guess I was about 14 or 15 when the SNES and Genesis came out. They both have some fantastic qualities. When looking at games for the consoles in the RGR, I tend to divide my attention evenly.

I'm a firm believer that ONE of the reasons that a good deal of people in this thread and around the world pick the SNES over Sega is because Sega consoles didn't make it to the current generation. The youngest people posting in this thread have seen new Nintendo products released and been pulverized by that advertising but only shadows of Sega's top characters and games. Yes, Nintendo won the console wars then but it was a fierce fight.

If this thread would have been a poll I would have picked undecided.

Games for Sega that deserve a chance imo because it seems to be the underdog in this thread: Shadowrun (prefer it over SNES), Starflight, Pirate's Gold!, Shining Force II, Comix Zone, X-Men 2

I do love me some SNES though... AAAHH!!!! I can't decide!

"Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis. When I was dead broke, man I couldn't picture this."

That line always comes up in my mind when I hear these two consoles. I have to go with the SNES because it has better games, in my opinion and I think the quality is better.

GenesisJunkie : I agree with all my heart, and agree that Sega is a wonderful console, especially with great games like Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3. Nintendo and Sega are both great companys, and it makes me sad when I see the two fan bases fight like babies.

Between the two I personally like the Super Nintendo better. I choose the Super Nintendo (SNES) over the Sega Genesis because the SNES had released better titles for that console, also the controls were easier to me and I just found the games quality graphics and performance wise to be better with the SNES. Also Nintendo just had more appealing titles and not to mention they have out lasted Sega consoles to this day. On top of that I cane only think of maybe on title for the Sega Genesis that interested me and that was Megaman.(altho I don't know for sure if it was released on the Sega Genesis or the Sega game gear).

I have both in one, so it is really easy for me to judge it.
Super Nintendo is better.
Not only the games, but the controls. The genisis controls are somewhat hard, but still fun to play. I love both of them, but SNES is better in a short margin of victory.
