I just heard about this anime the other day, and I must say that it's actually pretty awesome. I think it would be pretty cool if our technology could actually build an MMORPG that was like that, except you were actually able to log out of it. What do you guys think about this anime?

I loved the anime. I've heard lots of people dislike it and I can see why. The plot moves fast and it could be stronger. Personally I loved it and was enthralled by every action and event that transpired. Also as a gamer myself I was fascinated by the idea of a game like SAO. I doubt we would get technology like SAO for a long time. Just thinking about trying to host that type of game on a server would be tough. In SAO the mainframe only renders the area the players are in and even then only finely renders the details they are looking at, its incapable of rendering all 100 floors. The thing that I like the most is everything is dynamic. It's all run by the Cardinal system. It could basically run indefinitely with no input from admins. Its probably advanced enough to make and add content if it wished. Also think about the skills, if we could get skills that are completely dynamic and not level based that would be awesome. Games now are usually along the lines of cooking level 30 you can use a herring on a stove to get cooked herring. Imagine if instead of that you chose a set of ingredients, chose how to cook them, and the finished product would be something that would use that method of cooking and those ingredients. The more you leveled up the more of a diversity of foods you could make. If dynamic skills like that could be implemented in games today just imagine how fun they would be....

It's one of the best anime of recent times. There are so many good things about this anime that it would take me a while to post. Although there are better anime, this one has a great storyline, has an epic soundtrack, and when one theme plays, you know that something big is about to happen (anyone who watched it knows which one I'm talking about).

Oh, no doubt. I'm just saying I think it would pretty awesome to have a game like that. I agree, I don't see it happening any time soon, but it never hurts to hope. Talking about being sleep deprived from playing something like. My girlfriend first introduced me to it and she's really big on anime. After sitting down and watching a few episodes, I was pretty much hooked. I can't wait to finish the season out and see how it ends.

Here is how i can describe it

First 3 episodes are great

Next 12 are good

just turn you brain off for the rest.

It had a strong start,But in my opinion it ultimately fails at what it is trying to be,Perhaps a reboot of the series would make it better? Or perhaps another studio can take this idea and make it better?

Although i will give it credit because it does know what it is trying to be,It just fails at it.

It was a good anime. The first part of Season 1 is great but the other part is just messed up with fairies. XP I hope Season 2 is better.

Dead thread, but meh...  #Opiniondump

I actually enjoyed the Fairy Arc of SAO (shocker).  The plot wasn't fantastic, though the same could be said about the first half.  Most of the first half was just random snippets of the player's time in SAO over the two years, hardly any continuous plot besides Asuna x Kirito.  The fairy arc had a continuous path of episodes, each taking place immediately after the last, obviously resulting in a somewhat better story.  The visuals were beautiful, as they were in the first arc.  The additional fanservice felt a bit out of place, yes, but it didn't really seem to be as big of a deal as people are making it.

Hopefully, Gun Gale Online (season 2, coming out this July) will be better than both, if not at least just as good.

I think it is a great anime, it's not quite as good as all the hype would lead you to think but it is certainly in my top 10 anime, I have to say it was best watching it first time around, I'm not sure if it is that there isn't a wait or because it just gets worse when you re watch it. Never the less I am looking forward to the second season but I'm not looking forward to it anywhere near as much as I am looking forward to Log Horizon returning.

Sword Art Online was a really good anime all the way through, but I can really see a decline in quality when Sword Art Online ends, and with Alfheim Online beginning, I didn't care for the direction it was going in.

I really enjoyed the psychological commentary that it provides, and the definitely interesting concepts of being stuck within a virtual world was awesome.

Asuna was such a strong female character, and it was really weird for her to become a damsel in distress, but it certainly picked up when she was freed, logged out, and Kirito rampaged IRL. Definitely was a great ending, but the Alfheim Online stuff was pretty weak for me.

I think the concept is cool even though they sort off took it from another anime called .hack .
I did enjoy it but I did start liking it a bit less once Alfheim Online started (I did still like it though).

Though all in all while I do think it's good I think it's also a tad bit overrated though maybe that just me.

In my opinion, SAO was amazing as an anime for me not only because of the plot but the setting, the idea of such a video game intrigued me as a gamer. I must admit that I was pretty pissed off at how the plot kept going after they beat SAO, but the ending was pretty decent. By the way, anyone reading or planning to read the light novel?

I've seen some of it before, and thought the first part was amazing, though the show did get a bit less exciting and good after a while.

Having this type of technology in the real world would be amazing, if you know, you could get out of the game when you wanted, and it had no negative effects. The oculus rift is a technology which comes close, but who knows if we will ever get that type of technology to make a game like SAO.

The beginning of the anime really pulls you in and it's very interesting for a good while until it goes into the second game with Kirito's cousin. I like the anime I don't think it was that bad at all. I just prefer Attack on Titan, now that's a show worth talking about.

It started good for me then I felt things went down in a way. Like there were some parts that was great whereas some was not interesting as well. I love asuna but, seeing her being in trouble. I kind of felt she would had been more stronger than I thought to be. I hope the next SAO would be better....

I loved the anime, the manga I have not read, I am currently reading the light novel (no regrets) it has some differences from the anime, and is way further into the story. As a gamer it amazes me to think of such a game, but at the same time it gives me some kind of longing feeling for something non existent (I kept googleing for a word that means that none came up). It's a great series has romance, action and a really nice plot (though it may be slow at times) and since I've submerged myself into the story it has not stopped amazing me.
