I had a discussion in my Theology class that I found rather interesting. I actually had to think pretty hard about it. The discussion that we had started because the teacher said a statement that the class was supposed to either agree or disagree with (Friends are more important than money). The scenario that came up was that there are two doors that someone could go through.

The first door would lead you to $155 million dollars. You would have all $155 million dollars at your disposal to do whatever you want. The only thing is that you have to leave the life you currently know. You would have to sever all connections with your friends and you are not allowed to come into contact ever again. This applies to both best friends and acquaintances, as well as family. You'd leave everyone you know and claim the $155 million dollars.

The other choice is to go through the other door and be with your closest friends. You would forfeit the $155 million dollars, but you would be with your family and friends.

I guess the choice you would make depends on many factors, such as how and under what circumstances you were raised, as well as the extent to which you care for your family and friends. I'm not here to judge anyone, but I wondered how the people of Vizzed would answer this question. So would you rather go through the first door and leave all of your friends behind or would you go through the second door and leave the money behind so you can be with your friends?

This may sound strange to people but I would chose my friends over money. Money cannot buy you happiness. I just could notabandoned my friends. I have had friends leave me so I know what it is like to be abandoned so I could not do it. I am also Autistic so my friends are like family to me and sometimes I struggle to make friends. I just could not throw them away not even for $155 million dollars. I enjoy all of my friends. I remember having a question similar asked in my Christian Ethics class when I was an under graduate. I pretty much gave the same response.

There is only one thing I want and money can't buy it?

This isn't as tough for me as it should be.

I take the 155 million dollars, because my friends are absolute s*** 99% of the time.

Sure, I'd lose my family, but they barely keep in contact with me anyway.

The one thing I lack is money, if I had that, I could start a new life anywhere, and meet people who might actually give a damn about me.

It's kind of tough, the least I can say. My current situation would force me to take the money. Yes, I will live with a decent amount of money and do lot of stuff. However, the love I have for my family and my friends is priceless and I can't let them down since they don't let me down. So I would choose the second door. I'm aware I need money at that moment but I also need support. Without this, I'm hopeless. Between wealth and relationship, I'll choose the second option.

I would keep my friends and family. To me, money doesn't really matter-I have a stable Saturday Job and I am getting a decent wage, but money makes me miserable. I don't know why, money is one of those things everybody hates, but wants. I mean, how many conflicts has it started around the world? Loads of people know about this, and yet, everybody wants it, because a life is great when you are in luxurious surroundings. But I just can't imagine being without my friends or family.

I would take the money, however, if it also includes acquaintances AND family, then I would choose the friends.

I'd probably choose family and friends. My family's relatively financially stable, and although 155 million dollars would be really handy, I don't think it'd be worth giving up the bonds I've forged with some people.

Although, that old saying "Money can't buy you happiness," is crap. Money can buy you any material possession your heart desires, and those who say that those possessions don't matter are lying. And that's not a bad thing. For some reason I feel like people are so hesitant to admit that owning something, or being able to afford something "fancy" is inherently bad, and that finding pleasure in doing those things is somehow morally wrong.

I chose my family/friends over the money because they make me feel better than possessions do, not to say that possessions don't make me feel good, my family just gives me a stronger sense of love.

Friends over money.  Although I might miss out on some awesome video games and stuff, spending time with friends and family is even more precious, even if they are jerks.  I love them, and would miss out on some awesome opportunities if it were not for them.

Although it is a tough choice, I would pick my friends and family over the money, I simply couldn't put my friends and family off like that, that is a lot of money though, if it was 1 million or under I would've picked my family in a heartbeat, but it is still hard to turn your back against that much money. In leggy's situation, I would've taken the money in a heartbeat as well. Nothing is worth severing the bonds I have made with my family and friends, so that is why I would have to pick that over the money. JK, I will go through door 3 where I can get both XD.

No competition here. I would take the friends and family. I have one friend that I never want to imagine life without. That said, no amount of money would be worth losing them.

Eirinn : I know that's me, right? (teasing)

I'd obviously take friends and family. Even if my family wasn't great (which they are), I would eventually turn into a shell of my current self due to lack of friends and family.

I take friends and family over money because as the song by Ralph Tresvant says Money Can't Buy You Love which is true, plus your friends and family are always there to cheer you up whenever you are feeling sad or blue.

Are you kidding me? No money could ever buy my love!

Six pack of decent beer would be enough to send my entire family with all my friends to the gas chambers ofcource.

As long as it is decent beer! No American swill!

Otherwise just my family.

mrfe : Er... Did I say one friend? I meant two!

Let me also add to what I said earlier: No amount of money could replace my family either. Even when some of them hate and exclude me from their lives, they're still a part of me, and nothing could ever change that.

For my pick, it's got to be friends and family, because you can happen to get money anytime you want, but you only have 1 family.

Sure my family is a little dysfunctional, but I don't want to replace them over just some money, because I know they have done a whole lot for me for nearly 21 years and I really don't want to choose money over them even know it's $155 million, and to my opinion, my family is worth more than $155 million.

megamanmaniac : Just out of curiosity, where did the number come from? I mean, there's a TON of money in this world, but $155 M? If you ask me that is quite a pitiful amount for this to cause even a hesitation in my decision. My family and friends are far more important.

As tempting as that money is, I value those that I love and trust far more than I could ever value money. I cannot buy better friends with money. I'd rather earn the money the hard way, anyway.
That and I will gladly bet that all of that money that my friends have saved my life. If I didn't have them, I probably would've gone into full out depression and probably wouldn't be around anymore. I owe my friends more than money. I don't think I could live with myself if I ever chose the money.

I like my friendsa and family, but still I would choose the money.. Then I can fulfill my dream and travel through the world without worrying about anything or about anyone.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
