mrfe :
Oh no!  I guess I must have killed him because couldn't recruit him by
talking to him!  I guess I've been playing too much Genealogy of the
Holy Wars.  There are so many non-recruitable enemies with names
and sometimes even some character development.  Thanks; now
that I know that I should have no trouble getting him if/when I
play through the game again.

'The thread that has been closed for two months, has been reopened' (think LOTR for that one)

Yep, this is back opened again! Feel free to ask me ANYTHING about Fire Emblem, or occasionally about myself (keep it mainly to Fire Emblem though), and don't let this go all inactive on us again!!!

What's the best FE? Specifically for the GBA or the DS. I'm thinking of trying one again, since my last experience was a good one.

in FE7 is there a new game plus option or something to that effect so that you may max out characters and recruit people that you may have missed on the previous play through?

Oh noes! Some murderer guy broke into the room in which developers and the owner of fire emblem were in and killed them! Unfortunately, the Fire Emblem series was ended forever. What do you do mrfe? Killing the murderer won't bring them back.

Eirinn : Best FE? Are you considering purchasing one irl? My personal favorite is FE7 (Blazing Sword), of all the GBA Fire Emblems. I find that Sacred Stones (the only other Fire Emblem released for the GBA) is a bit too easy, and it's very easy to abuse (there is a part of the game that you can access at any time, and you can play as much as you want to get all the experience you want) for exp. Blazing Sword has a different feel to the game as well, if that makes sense. Overall, I prefer Blazing Sword when considering GBA games. However, after playing through Blazing Sword, playing Sacred Stones will be fun as well.

For DS games, there is only one released in the US. Shadow Dragon is a pretty fun game, though if you have a 3DS then Awakening will put it to shame (imo). Being the FE fan that I am, I'd get Shadow Dragon. However, if you're choosing between Shadow Dragon and Awakening, there's not much of a choice imo. Awakening is much superior.

The GBA games will probably be cheaper, so you may want to look at Blazing Sword first. That's my 2 cents, lol.

m0ssb3rg935 : You can play through the game as many times as you want, and beating a quest will unlock hard mode for that same quest. So, once you complete Lyn's quest, you can play through again on hard mode (no forced tutorials and such). Also, playing through Eliwood's quest will unlock Hector's quest. However, you won't be able to recruit EVERY available character. You can arena abuse to upgrade stats, and then use secret shops and such to finish off maxing the stats.

hilacle : Gah, that's a horrible scenario! I'm sure that someone would be hired to start the series up again, as I'm kinda expecting another FE already in development right now, but I doubt that it would be as high in quality as the previous developers accomplished. I would probably begin hacking the various FE games (GBA, probably), so that new FE games (even if they're hacks) will continue to release so that people will stay interested in this great series.

yoshirulez! : LOL! Funny question.

mrfe : How long ago did you start playing Fire Emblem, and how did you discover it? Did you discover it on Vizzed, or was it given to you as a gift in real life?

mrfe : In your reply to Eirinn, to add on to this post, If you are planning to buy the game and live in America, Blazing Sword (FE7) is only labeled Fire Emblem on the cartridge and box.  And as well, Sacred Stones I felt was a good game despite the overworld mechanic that you felt was abusive.  It was the first time since Fire Emblem: Gaiden where they allowed players to venture about the overworld (FE:Gaiden is the second game in the FE series)
Even still, FE:Awakening also uses this mechanic, although you have times where there are no enemies to fight, whereas Sacred Stones has the Tower of Valni and the Lagdou Ruins.  Knowing this I can see your point about abuse where you can always rely on grinding those two areas all the time whereas Awakening lets you grind maybe once or twice before moving on to the next chapter.

yoshirulez! : Lyndis! why anyone else ;p. I probably would chose Lyn anyway xD

mrfe : By the way like the name choice there Who is your favorite character from FE 6 (Sword of Seals?)

I have never played a FE game before but I'm ready to. I'm looking for a recommendation from you for a game available in the RGR. Doesn't matter if it's a hack - I just want to get hooked on something without a lot of grinding.

thephantombrain:

In my opinion if you want to start playing a Fire Emblem game in the Retro Gaming room, I would go with
Fire Emblem?(Sword of Flames/Blazing Sword) ?There isn't a lot of grinding outside of arena matches which they teach you about in the game. ?Since you are new to the series I would start with Lyn's Story/Campaign to get down the basics and you can choose either Hector or Eliwoods story after if you wish to continue. ?The game is the best out of the three GBA titles in my opinion, and once you finish that you can either go to its canonical sequel Sword of Seals (FE6) or Sacred Stones. ?Don't knock on Sacred Stones too much, it was my intro game to the series and I felt it was a very wonderful work of art. ?Unfortunately by only going out of the RGR you will miss out on some of the other amazing titles that were released later on, like Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, as well as seemingly everyones favorite Awakening. ?

Good to see someone wants to give this series a try, I guarantee that you will not be disappointed with your decision! ?
I'm not really sure what mrfe would recommend, but as an experienced player of the Fire Emblem series this is what I recommend you go with, and maybe you will branch out to what is currently out on the market now a days. I'm not sure if any of the older games are on here as they are all Japanese only releases up to Fire Emblem, so feel free to check the three that I know are offered on here!  And if you like the original three games there are a couple highly rated hacks on the site as well, haven't played them yet but they should still be fun to try

So, every time I've tried to update this my computer has shut off or my browser crashes. Hopefully this time I can finish this post. lol!

yoshirulez! : Ah, quite the interesting question. I would probably say Lyn, though I might be able to be convinced of Ninian or Karla.

SUX2BU : Why is your brother so good at keeping me amused?

I first played Fire Emblem in September 2008 (possibly 2009), got a GBA SP with various games for my birthday (late gift) including Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword. The first time I played it, I didn't actually play enough to enjoy it. Later, my cousin tried it out and convinced me to play it again. I did, and haven't stopped since. I actually discovered Vizzed, while trying to find more FE games to play. lol!

thephantombrain : If you're looking for an official game, then I'll probably recommend Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword. After you finish it (assuming you still want to play it), then Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals is the sequel (and it's also pretty good).

Deadman9001 : I appreciate your input, but the point of this thread is for me to answer questions. It's not 'Ask Fire Emblem fans anything about Fire Emblem', it's 'Ask mrfe anything about Fire Emblem'. Sorry to rain on your parade. :s

As for your question to me, I'd probably answer with Dieck. There's something about him, that I enjoy in a character. I have a tough time identifying it though. :p

I would like to ask what is the appeal to Fire Emblem? I have tried playing The Sacred Stones, but I cannot follow what the game's story is at all, and I like to do that in RPGs.

Who is your favorite Fire Emblem character and why?

Will you ever do a speed run of Fire Emblem for us all to watch?

Which of the three games in this forum do you think is the best and why?

If you had an option to make a team of ten people, from any Fire Emblem game, may they be Good Or Evil, or even an NPC, or a generic enemy, what ten characters would you choose?

In your opinion, what is the Fire Emblem game that takes the most to complete 100%?

zanderlex : I first played Blazing Sword (followed shortly thereafter by Sacred Stones), and Blazing Sword has stayed my favorite to this day.

wootman76 : Some will like the genre, but others won't. It's all a matter of preference, and what kind of game you enjoy playing. I find it appealing because of the story-line, and because of the character development. Of course, the gameplay isn't bad. If you're having trouble following along, look up the story-line.

megamanmaniac : Hector. He is my fav, because of his story/role in the game, and the way he goes all beast mode with an axe. XD

Yes. Dunno when though.

I'll assume you're referring solely to GBA games, because there is many other FE's on here. I prefer Blazing Sword, simply because it has a better story-line imo. It feels like they put more time (and invested in more quality) on the story in Blazing Sword as compared to the other 2, though Sword of Seals does rival it.

I've never played Fire Emblem.

I do not own a modern console. If I were to play Fire Emblem it would have to be on this site.

Which game would you recommend to someone like me?

If you are into ssbb, the new one is coming up soon, which fire emblem character would you look forward to seeing in ssb4? Marth is already confirmed, but if you had to choose between either ike, roy, chrom or any other fire emblem character to show up in the new smash bros, who would you pick? Personally I would love to see ike in it again, what about you?
