I really can't limit myself to five, there's just too many that I like, so I'll try limiting myself to ten.
Here they are, in no particular order: Code Geass, Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist, Steins;gate, Darker Than Black, Fate/Zero, Elfen Lied, Angel Beats, Full Metal Panic, and Baka to Test.

My top two favorite anime are Code Geass: Lelouch of the Revolution and Avatar/Korra. Both are great and I've binge watched both. I've watched all of avatar and korra but only part of Code Geass.

Kara no Kyoukai: the Garden of Sinners.  I enjoyed the story, the animation, the fights and loved Shiki.  And I found it kinda randomly.  I was looking at one of those /a/ rec images and just happen to decide to check it out.  Couple other favorites...

Fate/Zero
Elfen Lied
Serial Experiments Lain
Ergo Proxy
Sword Art Online
And a bunch more, but I think that's enough.

Jonanthra921 :

I am a recent watcher of anime. And, incidentally, a recent fan of the genre.

The anime that I have currently finished are:

Soul Eater
Vampire Knight [Japanese]
Rosario + Vampire
Death Note

The anime that I am currently watching are:

Full Metal Alchemist
Full Metal Alchemist : Brotherhood
BLEACH

Now, as for favorites, I am more of a Soul Eater fan right now. Though I am slowly becoming a FMA fan.

I am not too much of an anime fan but I really do enjoy a good Studio Ghibli production.
I own all of the films, most of them came in a box set but since I had that there have been more films released.

Other than that I have enjoyed the Professor Layton film. I was quite surprised it was decent since most video game based Anime is bad in my opinion. I can't stand pokemon or Yu Gi Oh

Right now my favorite anime are Avatar Abridged and Legend of Korra abridged. I hadn't heard about abridged series until recently but when I watched them they were incredibly funny. I've finished all of the first and a few of the second.

Favorite anime....hmmm...

1. The Slayers (first three seasons, never seen 4 and 5 yet)
2. Blue Exorcist (Come on, I like twists on mythology)
3. Sword Art Online (Aincrad mostly)
4. Lucky Star (that is hilarious, especially some of the situations those girls get themselves into)
5. Full Metal Alchemist (Haven't finished but heck, its awesome...and it saves me from a full Mello Yellow can again)
6. Ghost Stories (first American release, the one that isn't the actual translation, not seen yet)
7. Pueri Magi Madoka Magica (a nice little dark story with a light ending, although I haven't seen the after-years OVA yet...)
8. Elfen Lied (a nice little darker toned story, and a bit of a sappy ending...)

Only if I could name a few more, but I haven't seen some for like YEARS. So I couldn't tell you what is what anymore.
