Ever return to a place that you haven't been to in a long time and don't recognize anything about it?  I have been living here where I'm at for over 9 years now.   Earlier in the year, I went back to where I was living before, where I worked before, and I didn't recognize the place at all.   Nobody was still there from that time and the whole store got remodeled.   In a way, it was pretty sad because all of the people that I knew were not there anymore.    Same for this place -- every time I come here it is a new experience.   I haven't been here in a LONG time, so I thought I stop by and see how everything's going here.    I recognize a few names, but man, has this place grown.    This place has close to 500K posts and 140K members, nice going David.

I'm not familiar with you. But that doesn't surprise me as I've only been here for a grand total of one year.

I'm familiar with the experience though. I finally returned to a place I grew up to live with my grandmother while I put my life back on track. This place feels so much smaller now.

Yeah I'm constantly looking for new ways to expand this site and I do try to keep the "vizzed feel" of the site but sometimes things have to go in order to make room for new things.



A similar yet opposite experience for me is this.

While some things do change, other things don't.  About a month ago I decided to take my bike and go biking around my home town.  I haven't lived there in over 3 years and haven't biked around it in over 5 years.  When I went biking around, I felt like a kid again because biking around the town was like biking around it when I was a kid, not much changes in that town (it's a small town of less than 4000).  A lot of the people I didn't recognize and most of the houses that had people living in them that I knew no longer lived in them but I went to the towns only grocery store and I was amazed to see that most of the people working there are the same people who have been working there for over 10 years.

David, sometimes you have to get rid of some things in order for the site to run and look better -- especially if the new features you bring on board bring out more new members.   Also, interesting style with the text box -- I think I have seen a style similar to this on other boards.   Also, I find myself clicking "Spell Check" instead of "Submit Reply" sometimes.

About a year ago, I went back to the school where I attended 2nd and 3rd grades.  It's an historic landmark now, apparently, and I had the yearning to go check out a place I hadn't been in over 20 years.  Now, in my mind, my memories, that place was big.  Big, heck...that place was huge!  To a 2nd grader.  To my 30-odd year old self, it was..tiny.  The halls, the rooms, the doors..all were much, much smaller than I remembered.  Yeah, I know, I myself was smaller then, and that plays into it, but still - it was a bit of a shock.  And a little, just a little, of that childhood I tried so hard to cling to vanished like a puff of steam.  Nostalgia can be a good thing, I guess, but losing it still hurts like the Dickens.
