2021 has been a decent year for Vizzed as far as traffic goes. Vizzed has had a 20% traffic increase in the past year.


And even though my activity dropped in the final months of 2021 on the site (due to me getting an IT job), I managed to fix quite a few bugs and issues throughout the site and even update some features and add a few others. And most importantly, I got through a majority of my Private Messages.

Some of the fixes and updates:
-Completely Revamped the Video Game Music Room
-Resurrecting the Vizzed YouTube Channel
-20 – 50% Site Speed Boost
-Tons of new Features and Stats for Many Pages

Additional fixes and updates included Fixing NES Games, RetroArch HTML5 Emulator Enhancements including New Options, Help Center Updated, SEO Optimization of Site Pages (demonstration of how much it helped here), and so much more.

Vizzed also saw a semi-discontinuation of the RGR Plugin due to Flash being discontinued in all major browsers. I had started a fundraiser to help fund an update of the RGR Plugin that doesn’t support flash; that fundraiser exceeded expectations, showing that there was still a huge amount of supportive members on this site still. This updated version of the RGR Plugin is still pending since it has been difficult to find a qualified developer. Now I said Semi-discontinuation because the games in the Retro Game Room can still be played with the RGR Plugin using these instructions.

Something else that happened in 2021, which was an unexpected surprise, was the resurgence of the Vizzed.co Minecraft Server. Somehow the MC Server saw periods of high activity throughout the year, almost matching the prime days of the MC server. HUGE thanks to the MC Staff for helping take care of the increase MC traffic.

So I’ve been MIA in the past 4 months due to my IT job, as mentioned already. However, I’m slowly getting back more free time as the high demand of my job slowly decreases. I’ve been averaging 50 hours a week at my job, sometimes a little over 60 hours a week, but I’m slowly taking that down to around 45 hours a week.

I’m hoping to make 2022 the year of tournaments, events, competitions, etc. I’ll be streaming again with users and also putting together community based YouTube videos. Maybe we’ll see the return of past events, we’ll definitely see the return of real prizes, and if all goes well, we’ll get plenty of participation.

This was actually the most difficult decision I've ever had to make for the Member of the Year. EX Palen has done so much for the site and has taken care of pretty much the entire Retro Game Room mostly by himself. On the other hand, SonicOlmstead has maintained the forum and community, been on top of issues and reporting them to me and has done a great job keeping active with the MC server. It was completely even between the 2 of them and I pretty much handled the tie breaker by giving it to SonicOlmstead only because I gave the award to EX Palen last year. Both of these guys deserve it evenly though.

Happy 17 Years Vizzed!

I was able to accomplish some big goals this year being the most active member of the year which I really made sure to push hard for I can't imagine I'll be able to put myself in many situations again where I had the chance to win it so I really pushed myself for it, I was really surprised to see I got 3rd in most CP I always feel like I struggle when it comes to earning CP. I also was surprised getting voted best staff member I really thought Palen would easily get the most votes for it and it'd be completely deserved. One last thing I wanted to comment on before I get to the main thing I obviously am going to talk about is I really got a good laugh out of seeing David's comment of "No offense SonicOlmstead but really? lol."

Okay okay I've been putting this off in this post long enough being named Member of the year is a huge honor and something I could of never imagined winning until the past 2 years and I'm glad Palen was considered just as much as I was as I've discussed most of my decisions with him throughout the year and he was always super helpful with everything. Though I'm kind of surprised to hear it was the most difficult decision ever when it comes to member of the year there's been tons of great Admins in the past and especially in the past few years but I guess it can only be a good thing that this was the hardest decision. Finally I just wanna say thank you to everyone on the site because without everyone posting and being active I would of never been able to be named Member of the Year so thanks everyone!

How am I nicest but also meanest? Make up your minds! Or maybe I won the Most Bipolar award? I get the controversial part though, I'm sure I'm fun to talk about.

I also enjoy how my name is almost synonymous with Best Layout at this point. I'm pretty sure almost every year since 2012-ish (?) besides maybe like 2017 when I was completely gone dealing with life, I've at least been in the rankings. I didn't even make any new layouts this year (not to my memory anyways) and still got voted. Allysa8th and I have discussed/collabed on a few layouts but I haven't really felt like making a new one on my own, both from satisfaction with what I currently have and also laziness.

Also, re: super veteran idea... I was going to say I think I'm the only (active) member who qualifies for that (assuming 10, since I'm coming up on 12), but everyone else probably isn't too far behind lol

Anyway, thanks for the votes. I've kind of been in the background this year but still won a lot of things somehow, even if that's partially due to a lack of voting.

Davideo7 : oh I wish I could LOVE this post, I can't believe I actually won something (albeit by default but whatever)

also I was kind of hoping one of the fixes would be for most of the console game pages as I hadn't had any luck trying to upload anything for game pages as Quartet for SMS or the Road Rash Trilogy for Genesis, however I do have other screenshots ready to go because I felt that my youtube videos could use a thumbnail makeover, I try to upload and I keep being met with the screen that says "This Game Does Not Have Any Screenshots" without the thumbnail of the image I submitted. I don't seem to be having this problem on games that don't already have screenshots though.

I don't think it's a size problem as my images are under 4 MB (heck they're all in the KB's) I did do resizing it actually showed the progress of the upload but still I get met with the same message about how this game does not have any screenshots

Davideo7 : Wow you've had a big week! Glad to see that the vizzed RGR plugin is still being considered. I've been using the EmulatorJS to play the games although it happens to lower the resolution on certain games like darius 2 in which it's very hard to see bullets and super darius 1 which doesn't work at all because it can't load certain games, but that's fine for as long as the rgr returns, all of that should be gone.

SonicOlmstead : I just found it really difficult to place 1 of you above the other. I even almost considered doing the first tie ever, but decided against it because I know that once I start doing that, I'll probably keep doing it.

I totally missed out on this due to things going on in real life. I planned to make a post or thread about it somewhere, but I've been unable to set aside the time to condense things up so probably by next week or so I'll be able to give an update about that.

It's really impressive I managed to get the most CP this year despite the fallback I've experienced in later months. Clearly says how avid of a CP hunter I am, so time to try and make it 5 in a row. I'd also like to get wordiest member some day, I'm as proud of my wordy nature as of my CP hunting skills but competition in this field is fierce.

I must agree that Sonic deserves more the Member of the Year than me. We both may have done a lot, but he's the mastermind behind the revival of the MC server which has been a major point of the year and he's a more publicly acknowledged member compared to me, as I normally stay behind the scenes doing my work. Same for the Best Staff Member award, he's been handling the mod teams on top of the MC staff so he just couldn't be beaten to this.

It's a bit of a shame I'm the only one still paying any real attention to guides, how I miss the good times of our round table. I want to try and be more active on that front if I get my life stabilized again, my project list could be expanded soon and there are still too many projects on the drawer pending completion.

Next year Vizzed will come of age, though in reality that won't happen entirely until three more years into the future. Maybe then we should include some other beverages besides Vizzed Soda on the list, that is if we ever see McDavideo7 open again for business. I know we're family friendly and all that, but allow us good ol' jacks to also enjoy our fine adult drinks as well xD

Davideo7 : Hmm? Is the retroarch working normally or something? Because last time I used it which was probably like a year ago, it was bad as I mentioned. Has something been done with it since then?

ITs crazy to think of myself as a veteran, but thank you guys for the votes.

That being said, its been one crazy year but on Vizzed its been nice and calm. 17 years the site has been up, and for eight I've been here. This was probably my least active year yet, but it seems time is really flying by faster and faster these days.

I still look back sometimes at how things were in 2013-2015 and while I miss those days of activity and friendship, honestly I'm just glad the site is still here. It's great to see so many familiar faces in this thread, but even more encouraging to see new people.

I look forward to the year ahead here on Vizzed, hope to see some of my old friends again and hopefully meet some new ones. Thank you for 17 great years of Vizzed and heres to another

Davideo7 : Yeah I don't blame you on wanting to avoid starting the trend of allowing ties and of course it's still an honor if I counted right I'm only the 12th member to ever win the award and it was definitely a goal ever since I realized I could win it someday.

EX Palen : I'd honestly be overwhelmed and lost if it wasn't for you and your ability to take over for tRIUNE. I wanted nothing more than to reward you for that by giving you the recognition by giving you member of the year award again, but I'm glad that you're supportive of my decision.

Vizzed is approaching multiple milestones in the near future. The very first board of mine came out in early 2002, titled Viz Board at that time. Then the very first version of Vizzed Board came out toward the end of 2002. Feels like a life time ago. And then the Vizzed.com domain was created in early 2003, making it an older domain than a lot of web sites which includes Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter, etc. It obviously wouldn't have lasted this long if it wasn't for the amazing and dedicated community.


Blazer 31 : RetroArch on Vizzed has been working great for a while now. I've invested a lot of time into it over the past year.


Barathemos : Forums offer a unique atmosphere. I've not really seen anything else on the internet that captures the same charm that a traditional forum has.

Davideo7 : Ok then, because I tried using it again after your reply and it seems that I cannot access the settings on the top of the screen as when I click it, it doesn't open a pop-up which can allow you to adjust your controls.

2021 must have been quite a year for vizzed! Here's hope that 2022 will be a better year for vizzed!
