HISTORY OF VIZZED (and Davideo7)

Since a lot of you are unfamiliar with the history of Vizzed Board, I thought I'd give you all a little history of Vizzed and Vizzed Board.

Early 1998: David Auchampach (age 12) finally gets full access to a computer when his family get their first computer. David Auchampach gets into RPG Maker 95 and starts to make an internet presence by the name of Davideo77.

Around 1999: Davideo77 (around the age of 14) finds and posts on his very first message board forum on telefragged.com which is a forum dedicated to final fantasy. Davideo77 posts like a little newb but loves the concept of a message board and dreams of having his own site and forum some day.

Sometime in around 2000: Davideo77 becomes Davideo7. Originally he created an account with hotmail in around 2000 which was davideo7@hotmail.com and than he made an email with yahoo around the same time but for some reason davideo7@yahoo.com was unavailable so he got stuck with davideo77 and went by that name for a few months until he noticed davideo7@yahoo.com was suddenly available. He does end up going by both Davideo7 and Davideo77 for a while.

Early 2000: Davideo7 makes a website with Homestead but ditches it within a month

Around 2001: Davideo7 makes a Geocities website dedicated to RPG Maker and Final Fantasy called 'Viz Video Games'. He also uses it to display his RPG Maker 95 games, primarily 'Fanisters Island'.

Late 2001: Davideo7 is referred to Stifu's Board by his personal friend DNG and Davideo7 becomes in love with the board and becomes an active member.

Late 2001: Davideo7 discovers the original "Acmlm's Board' from Stifu's board and becomes an active member there.

Early 2002 (or possibly late 2001): Davideo7 created 'Viz Board' and invites his personal friends to post on it. Davideo7 originally wanted to get an acmlm board but lack of knowledge and inability to get the board engine resulted into him setting up an ezboard. Known members from that board who also have accounts on this board: DudeNamedGlenn (DNG on vizzed board), greenlight30 (Cid on vizzed board) and el nino ninja (Mike on vizzed board). Captain Koga (aka Koga) was also an active member on that board and was an active member in the vizzed board community until around 2003 (he never made it to this board but posted on the last vizzed board)

2002: The very first Vizzed Board is created (but doesn't have it's own domain name, instead I use the same domain from the crappy hosting company I was going thru at the time known as rcthost). After many months of becoming a well known member in the Acmlm Board community, Acmlm himself finally grants me the permission to use his board engine (at that time only a few were priveleged with getting their hands on it). A lot of the board's members were either personal friends, friends from acmlm's board, or members from eponick's board (his board went down for a very long time and I was an active member on his board and told the members about my board and they came to my board to post until his board went back up).

2003: With the help of Jake-A-Roonie, Vizzed gets it's own domain name. I was to young to purchase one (17) so I sent him money over paypal and he purchased it for me with his credit card.

2003: Davideo7s well know RPG Maker 95 site goes up which helps draw in a ton of the board's traffic.

Late 2003: Someone hacks Vizzed Board and destroys all posts and members by uploading a PHP file using the upload feature and dropping the tables in the database.

Late 2003: Vizzed Board 2 is created (aka 'The Previous Vizzed Board'). The previous Vizzed Board is still available and completely viewable Here
A lot of the members who are from that board are on this board as well, just take a look at the Memberlist

Late 2004 (5 years ago): Randy suggests that Vizzed Board transfer to the new Acmlm Board engine. Davideo7 agrees which results into everything starting over and members having to register again. That new Vizzed Board is this Vizzed Board. Many complained (primarily Cid and Lowell) about having to start over and because of that, Davideo7 promised to never let a reset on posts and users happen again.

Mid 2005: After the board was incredibly active, it goes into an on and off drought for a few years.

2007: Board is probably deadest it's every been, a few days during the summer it went over 24 hours without a single post.

2008: Get-Your-Rom is created by Davideo7 and JigSaw. It also helps draw in new activity to Vizzed Board

Early 2009: Retro Game Room is added and floods of activity is generated.

Throughout 2009: Davideo7 spends hundreds of hours working on the Retro Game Room. Also spends many many hours adding new features.

Summer 2009: Biggest Vizzed Board war starts and ends. The results: a few members leaving and never coming back and the board losing a lot of activity temporarily.

Fall 2009: Vizzed Board gets it's new developer, Jigsaw, which helps add features to Vizzed Board.

Late 2009: Vizzed Board Retro Game Room exceeds expectations and brings the total traffic of vizzed.com to be over 3,000+ unique visitors per a day. At this point, the board's activity is also great.





AWARD CEREMONY

First I'd like to start out by giving out my awards (which I've been doing for years now). My awards differ from last year only because some of my last year's awards were in the member voting awards. Most of these awards are based on facts & statistics rather than opinion.

Generous member of the year: JigSaw
WHY? He's donated over $250 to vizzed board in the past few months. If there were a 2nd and 3rd place, those would go to gtwalq ($120) and Cyro Xero ($80); thanks to all of those who have donated

Most active member of the year: Geeogree
WHY? He's made nearly 3,500 posts in the past 365 days; a tie for 2nd goes to both ziggy and dark hyren who each got over 3,400 (nearly as much as geeogree but not quite). Click Here to see full results.

Board Developer of the year: JigSaw
WHY? Do I even have to explain why? He's done more for the board than anyone else in the history of vizzed board (well besides me anyway but I don't count). He's developed quite a few features in the past few months and I'm sure we'll be seeing him develop more during the next year.

Wealthiest member of the year: gtawlq
WHY? He's got 108,436 Viz which is just incredible (primarily from donating). I would have qualified for 1st but again, I don't count. 2nd goes to Cyro Xero (90,749 viz), 3rd goes to Dark Hyren (86,800 viz), 4th goes to Geeogree (65,771) and 5th goes to Neyro(44,257). Now you guys know who to bug when you're broke

Biggest board contributor of the year: Solehite
WHY? Solehite. She's put so much time into helping out with the Retro Game Room, we all need to give her a huge thanks for her help and dedication. What's even more spectacular is the fact that I offered her money for her recent task (which is a big one) and she declined money. 2nd goes to Dark Hyren for his great help on the RGR and other things and 3rd goes to Army Dude for his great help with helping me out when I need a quick assistance and for helping me advertise the board.

Great respect award: Cyro Xero, John and DNG
This award goes out to the 3 (known) members who are in the military. I have great respect for those who serve and I think these 3 really deserve some appreciation for what they do. If I'm missing anyone, please let me know and I will add them to the list but to qualif you need to be either active or have 1000+ posts.

WHY? He has dedicated more time to the board than anyone else in the history of vizzed board (besides me of course). I'll start out by listing a few of the reasons why he deserves this award yet again:
-Donated $277 to vizzed board
-Has developed many features for the board in the past few months
-He has helped set up the Retro Toons Room and has put as much time into it as I have (which is a lot, trust me)
-He's like a personal assistant sometimes since he's usually always on MSN and I can talk with him for opinions and help regarding vizzed board
-A very active poster (7th overall in past year; doesn't make him the highest but it contributes to this award)
-An unbiased staff member who is very fair and he's also an overall very forgiving person
-Co-owner of Get-Your-Rom.com and has let me advertise vizzed board a lot on there and has also advertised vizzed board a lot on his own website Magnum Directory

For those who didn't receive an award, I really hope you don't feel hurt or left out. Many people who I thought deserved an award didn't get one but most of everyone who did receive an award I think was properly awarded.

I just want to give a GREAT thanks to everyone on the board who has helped this community grow and stay active. I also want to give a HUGE thanks to the staff members of the past, present and future, without you guys, this board wouldn't even be possible and the fact that you guys are so willing to do what you do for free is just amazing and I'm very thankful for everyones help and support of vizzed board.

As I said in my last post, I'll be inactive for this month, I've got a lot of stuff that I'm working on (refer to my Going Away for a while thread).

Oh, and for those who have been wondering for days when and where I'd use my 10,000th post, well here it is
I figured since my 10,000th post was so close to the 5 year anniversary of the "new" board, I'd just wait to use it for this (which results to an impressive 2,000 posts a year on average). Plus it helps prevent me from posting because it gives me a good number to leave off at while I'm inactive.
I've been the reigning post champ for over a year now. Before me it was MichaelVash and before him it was John (who btw dominated for the first few years of vizzed board). It's very unlikely that someone will be passing me anytime within the next year but the 3 I see having the most potential are: Geeogree, Dark Hyren and joebab (and possibly jigsaw and cookieman)

An update on the new Retro Game Room Games: At the moment it's really uncertain when we'll be getting the new games but it could be anywhere from a week to a month. The games we'll be getting (in order): SNES, GBA, N64, Genesis, MAME.

Have a Merry Christmas and talk to you all again in the new year (or until I have a beta release of "vizzed platform maker").

I agree....

And the insomniac one is a given. I think I had to be awake all the time in order to out-post everyone. It helped having a kid that was awake every 3-5 hours through the night. You had to have something to kill the time until she went back to sleep.

The rest seem pretty good. I'm glad I won awards this year.

Wow that was a historic post I recall geo saying in the previous awards thread he would be the best returning member in 2009, he was right Let's make 2010 even better!

It's going to be hard to beat 2009's stats since we did a lot this year, got a stable 3000+ visitors in traffic per day, over 20,000+ new members, added RTR & RGR + all the new features, this will be one of the most if not most historic year for vizzed ever good work everyone

All in all, I think that these rewards were very true (with the exception of most mature... I'm mature, but not most mature). Happy 5 year anniversery to Vizzed, and let 2010 be as great a year for the board as 2009 was!

Wow what an epic 10,000th post
Reading all the history, showed me just how big of a year this year was for VIzzed.
Hopefully next year will be just as great if not better.
I'll be sure to stick around for it
I'd also like to see a returning member for 2010.
I don't really have a preference seeing as no one has really left since I joined, but yeah it would be nice to meet some of the old members.

It doesn't really bother me that I didn't get an award seeing as I'm fairly new and haven't started posting a heap until lately.

well, the vote should have been private. Then people would have had to actually think about who they were going to vote for rather than copying 90% of other people's votes.

Ha, I agree with your award Geeogree. You should have been first I thought. But I'm not complaining. Was it voting on the year or on the 5 years.

Well there was two awards.

Davids Awards as he mentioned were based on actual stats whereas the user awards are judged on opinion. What is fact is fact and what is opinionated is objectionable. So ofcourse the user awards no one is going to agree with 100% unless you actually voted then you basically agreed to it all

there weren't 5 year awards... at least I didn't interperet them as such. We generally do awards for the last year.... I do agree that there were people left out that if it had been the last 5 years that they should have been included.

After reading Davideo's post, I look away from the screen and everything is blue

I feel proud for the most meanest award because for once I beat DM in a category.

I shall also say congrats for those who won awards. And its nice to read the history of the board.

I see, so this is the second one. The actual stat awards are understandable for the 5 years. I don't think the voting ones should be added to this one, but added to another one that should be a more yearly annual vizzed year awards. I think that would be more accurate.

It is a yearly award.

It's just that this one coincides with the 5 year anniversary.
