These last couple of years have been dissapointing for me when it comes to purchasing Pc titles. My main point of frustration is that 90% of pc titles now require an online activation before you can even play them. There was once a time where internet and gaming was a choice but now your forced to have an internet connection to play them.

Another thing that gets to me is 90% of pc titles nowdays also have a copy protection program on them such a securom. You cant play certain games with copy protection if you have a ghost drive on your computer.. FML! (for those of you who know that that means).

That leads me to another issue I have.. fair enough developers are using these protection programs because of piracy but the way I see it is if you purchase a game for a rediculous amount (say $50+) then you should be entitled to do whatever you want with it. How do game stores get away with letting people play new pc games on a demo computer instore?

Sure you can download a crack for each game but I feel you shouldnt have to.

I feel the same, I pirate because of securom, I mean the pirates get past it easily it only gives problems to the customers.

to tell ya 'th truth i pirate some times when i feel like it but not 100 % all the time

The only game I ever pirated for PC was SPORE. Because I wasn't going to have Securom bite my ass.

Though I still play the PC for one thing, Indie Games. Seriously, there are a lot of innovative crap out there that no one hears about these days.

I have one major problem with Steam and it's the fact that you have to be connected to the internet to just even play a single player game. Which really sucks cause if the internet isn't working and I want to play Dreamfall, it won't work for me.

Like xfighter said, you have to have an active internet connection to play any games on steam, which was one of arguments if you bothered to read.

Agreed with xfighter, he said most of what I wanted to.
Also steam forces you to update if theres an update, which is not really a needed thing for any single player game and is a nuisance for people with bandwidth limits.
Not everyone has unlimited downloads in this world you know.

Oh, and I prefer to actually own the game, not just have rights to use some data.
Thats one thing that annoyed me with FEAR 2, we bought the actual game disks from the store yet we had no right to use it without steam installed... To that I say WTF?
Plus it updated on install, wasting download bandwidth

On what garth said about virtual drives, alot of people use them for legitimate purposes like development, running back ups, as well as running game images.
Which I might add is allowed under many EULAs.
So why the hell do some of these games refuse to install or play if you have one? It just isnt right.

I haven't purchased a pc game in a while because of this. Usually I would get a nocd for my games so I wouldn't need to use the disc, but I find it easier to just get the game for a game console and not need to jump through hoops to play the games. Being forced to be online breaks 90% of the games if I want to play when I have no connection to the internet. I know the consoles require you to update, but after you update you don't need to be online and you can just pop in the game and play it whenever you want.

Last PC game I bought was Diablo II. I really can't pirate games right now because my internet connection is horrifically slow. (55KBPS is kinda slow IMO).

Well, you connect you download and then you start steam in offline mode.

Mainly because I don't have the money to be buying the games, i've just downloaded them. Steam hasn't been a problem at all. I don't even pay attention to it. Purchasing them and playing them shouldn't be a hassle. Of course if you don't buy a game from stores you can't play it online. But there are private LAN servers you can join in on with Hamachi and such.

iBOCK, do you try torrents to download and that's why it's slow? If so you might want to try JDownloader. I described it in this thread and how to use it Mininova/JDownloader

Just suggesting an alternative for you, maybe it might help. If not, I tried.

True. But I don't like leaving my computer on all night. I used to do that with one of my older computers and it bogged it down badly.

i just hate having to pay the crazy price's for the games. like especially if u can't get ur hands on demo some how spend all that money and can't stand the game.I try to get the games for free but if i like it i buy it any way's because there always something things u don't get on free download that u can get with the real deal.
I current own 69/71 free games atm. week end got to get other two. had more but didn't like them so i deleted and never bought.If everyone just got the games off a free downloads site or w/e the makers would keep making these games.
what they should do is create 5 min demo post it up on their site which allow people to full decide if it is worth it.
i running at 54 mbps on my laptop it is pretty slow for dl but uploading don't take very long.
