It may be a little early to call, but I'd like to see where we fall here.

Microsoft unveiled the refridgerator-like design of their new console, while Sony has kept their mouth shut on everything but the technical stuff.

What I'd like to know is, which one will you be buying? There's no clear superior console at this point and our interest in them is purely speculative.

I'll be picking up a PlayStation 5 because of their exclusive titles, though it seems like they may follow trends set by Microsoft and release the titles on PC alongside a console release. If this becomes the case, it will be the first gaming console generation where my only console is a Nintendo one.

Anytime shortly after release? Probably neither. we poor bois. That said, I'm actually interested in both for similar reasons.

As a side point, while the Series X design is extremely meme-able and I've reposted my fair share of images satirizing it, I actually think it's a nice design. There's something to be said about the simplicity (at least externally... Whether or not they had to shoehorn the hardware into the shell remains to be seen) when compared to the images floating around that are supposed to be of the PS5 devkit.


I've only ever played a Microsoft console once that wasn't a demo at a store, and it was maybe the first half hour or hour of Resident Evil 6 on 360. I've missed out on a lot of past Microsoft exclusive games. With that in mind, despite my skepticism of it's performance, Microsoft's claim that it will be backwards compatible with every previous Microsoft console is very attractive.

The same goes for the PS5. I've heard rumor that the PS5 is also supposed to be backwards compatible with every previous generation of Sony home consoles, and as someone who missed out on the PS3's exclusive games that weren't eventually rereleased on PS4, and just the idea of being able to play most of my collection from a single console without having unhook and rehook retro systems, it seems like the perfect upgrade to the PS4.

PlayStation 5 probably some time after it's initial release. I would say that I am definitely more of a play station fan than an Xbox fan. XD

PS5 why? if you dont know I am a PS veteran me and my bro started with Playstation, and we continued to ground that traditon. Obviously my bro will get it first before I do. thats fine because thats how we have done it in the past. the only console I wasnt so fourtune to buy was the PS3 BUT! I played on my brothers one so in a way it...counts? I dont play xbox. The only consoles I play nowdays are handled nintendo consoles but for big consoles I play the Playstation ones. I still have my ps2 with me lol. and mybrother and I still have our playsation we said to tresure it to show it to our children one day. so theres my history with PS consoles. I dont have the orginal nintendo switch because I didnt like how the buttons would be too small for me. plus I got the switch lite instead which I am much happier having. I mean my brother had the orginal gameboy color that I got to play. so I also want to keep that tradition alive.

I actually might get both.

I was planning on getting a PS5 regardless, especially since there's news that it can go backwards to PS4, and potentially older consoles as well. The more consoles it is backwards compatible with, the more systems I can get rid of. The more I get rid of, the more space I have for other things.

But with the news/rumor that the XBox will have Steam functionality, I really want one of those too, since I have 1000+ games on Steam. Would be nice to own a console day 1 and have 1000 games for it.

Between these 2 it's going to be the PS5 because I never really played the Xbox to begin with, and all my history has come with the PlayStation.

However, I won't get a PS5 right when it comes out because of the price. I will probably wait until the 1st or 2nd Black Friday after it comes out to pick one up.

My current plan is to buy both eventually, but I'm more of a PlayStation buff than I am a fan of Xbox. Despite Sony making a lot of decisions I have not been fond of lately, I have to give in considering the amount of great exclusives that appeal to me more than what Xbox has to offer.

I don't think I'll upgrade to PS5 anytime soon. I hardly grow interested in new games right now, so unless my environment pushes the upgrade I may even skip this one or drop off from the videogames world altogether to stay with my old gems.

While I do have friends that have Xbox, I'm not a big fan of it, I prefer Sony for a few exclusives they still have. But who knows, like I said about my environment, maybe I could get an Xbox next and close the circle of having owned at least one console from the main companies from the fifth generation onwards (Sega, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft).

Like this current generation i'll probably get both, (although i hope don't randomly buy 2 of each like this gen)

Honestly speaking though i'll probably focus on the Playstation 5.

I've got a much bigger library of games on playstation and it's been my focus for the last couple of years.

I'm not that overly fussed about the games or the hardware ironically. I buy lots of random games with varying degrees of success. There will always be good games on any console.. you just gotta find them

Plus the people that i do play console games with are mostly playstation focused. I could always use more psn friends though... hint...hint

Definitely the PS5. While the tech for both is more or less the same with slight variation, I am much more of a Playstation guy. I like the features of the Dualshock 5 controller and I am also hoping for true backwards compatibility with older systems (I'd heard it was supposed to be compatible all the way back to PS1, but we'll see).

One thing I'd heard is that given the amount of tech in both the PS5 and Xbox Series X (Still not a fan of the name...) is that it would be very unlikely for them to release their consoles at under $500. When the base model of the PS4 and Xbox One came out in 2013, they were $399 and $499 respectively ($399 after they dropped the Kinect) and had 1.84 and 1.4 teraflops while the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X had 4.2 and 6 teraflops respectively. The PS5 and Xbox One X are both supposed to have about 12 teraflops, which is huge. Combine this with all the other tech and features they each boast and I don't see it coming below $500 sadly, even though they often sell it at a loss. Both of them are estimated to cost $460-$520 to make, so even if they sold them at $500 flat for example, the profit margin would be very small indeed.

We shall see though. I can live with it being in the $500 range.

Actually, I won't be purchasing either of those. They just don't offer anything for me. Switch has the bulk of my first party titles. And anything else i want i can get on pc. So those two companies can go kick rocks as far as im concerned.

Even though my last two consoles were both Xbox, I’m actually thinking about getting a PS5, hoping to recapture that feeling when I owned a psx and ps2. Only reason why I had Xbox was because of fifa, legends and icons were once exclusive to the console and I do love the extra content

I won't be picking any of them during their first year at least. I would like to see how they'll perform and what kind of games they will have. I'll wait as well for the price to decrease over time. if i were to choose one, however, it would be the PS5 since i am more used to Sony consoles. i loved the PS4 and i hope I'll enjoy the PS5 as well, if i ever get one!
