Vanelan : I understand why you're defending your position of treating leaving threads the same, as you're a mod and it's currently your job to trash those. However, I made sure to say currently. We really shouldn't be complaining in a user-owned forum about the rule of leaving threads, but instead, enough of us need to bring this to David's attention. What you did to Geo's thread probably cemented his departure due to how rude your "Invalid Thread" title was, and how you edited his post. You could've just trashed it and done nothing to it.

If we could come together to bring this to David's attention, then maybe we can get the rule changed if that's the problem. Maybe we need a forum, somewhat tucked away, for quality leaving threads.

Also, it already was brought to David's attention. We confirmed it with him that leaving threads were against the rules site-wide.

Let me make this clear so everyone knows...
I asked David if that rule applies to the whole board and he said it does.

And if anyone is unclear about rules concerning private forums; All vizzed rules apply in addition to whatever rules the private forum owner might want to add (as long as they don't conflict with vizzed rules).

There are ways to leave information for people to be able to contact someone and there are certainly better ways to suggest changes than telling us you are leaving because of x y z.

Or you know its called doing your job... Mods have always used their own opinions to decide if a thread needs to be closed, edited or both... It's almost like you've just realized that, You know mods have been doing this for what like a decade... If it causes an argument... explain your actions.... Did you do that here... No...and this is why it became an issue. 

Is it hard for you to accept that you've inherently made a lot of drama on the site for really no reason. All of this could have been avoided had you simply apologized or explained... 

Also just to clarify... the fact that you asked David about closing all leaving threads specifically just so that you could close Geeo's can't be ignored... Whether you did or didn't.... Are you not aware of how vindictive you look?

It's like you did everything in your power to close the thread..... so what has geeo done for you to hold such a vendetta against him.....and before you say he bad mouthed staff... get over it... I don't think there's a single person who has modded that has not been bad mouthed... it comes with the job.. and if you can't accept that.... welp

are you just trying to create more drama or are you trying to make a valid argument because you're failing at the latter.

To be honest I think this thread has been getting out of hand, but with all things said everyone has made mistakes, staff and users.

No. Actually if what Van and the others are saying it's true the different management shouldn't matter whatsoever if it broke the rules it broke the rules no questions asked. No one is really failing the ladder except it seems van and some mods are losing credibility in this case, no offence. I'm pretty neutral in this situation it's just both sides are f***ing up terribly and making their cases seem like s***. And don't even try that mod stuff on me, that doesn't work, that's not a true answer, it's a red herring. Also the whole point of this thread is to answer one singular question, you and everyone else is the reason it's creating drama not Rday making a simple example. Just be straight out, that's all everyone is asking, why is there such a big need for the secrecy? 

This shouldn't have become an issue in the first place, like I said people can make a mistake here and there, we are humans it's how we are, it's just how badly the action was taken and how it wasn't properly taken care of. 

I do want to point out, I don't want us to point fingers at anyone.

Yes, my main topic here is censorship, something I personally abhor. However, I do not want us to say "so and so" is failing, or "so and so" is who is changing the rules on us on the fly. It's not that simple, and anyone who has been a moderator knows that. I know that.

The only point of this thread, was to get a discussion going on whether the community believed there to be an issue with the editing out of posts. The leaving thread thing aside, it can be cleared up by just editing the site rules when David gets a moment.

We do not need to get nasty about it. Maybe I'm guilty too. But I was kind of mad and caught in the heat of the moment. I still believe we should not censor posts if they do not contain harmful content.

However, everyone's definition of harmful is going to differ.

legacyme3 : Another thing is that it's hard to tell whether something had harmful intent on the internet or not. Unless the person who did it tells you honestly and you know it was honest. That's why drama might be more common on the internet than anywhere else.

Also, you most likely won't be able to tell if the edited thread itself had harmful intent if it's all edited out.

It had nothing too do with being vindictive. I asked David to clarify it because it wasnt specifically written in a certain way. 
Because of that,  people were trying to repost a thread type that was restricted. 

Rather than cause additional drama of "well why wasn't user x' s thread closed/edited," it makes it much easier to just edit them all and close them. 

I personally don't have anything against any of the people that made the threads/posts. It was a bit sad to see them go as well after all the time they've been here.

This incident has been bothering me for awhile, so I emailed David about the whole situation. Here's what he said.





He told me in a later email that geeo was the one who implemented the no leaving thread rule, but not the censoring part, that's obviously never been done until now.

Vanelan : David's against it, I'm against it, most of the userbase is against it, all you did was cause drama. If you wouldn't have edited out the words of that thread, then none of this would've happened.

It might be premature to say "Vanelan" caused drama.

This is an issue of the past that we are rectifying now. Vanelan's only fault was following what has been done in the past.

It's good that we're having this discussion though, because things can change.
