The title actually tells a lot, but not everything. So i'll explain it a bit.

In each house we humans live in are rules. Rules you need to follow because if you don't, then it's going to be trouble. But i bet in every house are different rules because a lot of different people live in your street. Everywhere. Take a look at your neighbors. Which of their rules are different, compared to your own rules? You may or may not know it. People with another religion have different rules too. But whatever we do with the people we go to and visit, we must respect their rules.

Now comes the question. *excited intonation* Ohh, i'm excited! *ahem*

What are your three most important house rules? If you're not alone, do the people that live there too actually follow them (as well)? And what happens if they break the rules?

Over here in our peaceful house, my parents and i make new rules each time i got changed in something. The first one on my list would be that i need to take a PC and DS break after around 13:00 PM to let my eyes rest. Strange enough, i am still allowed to watch TV then. Anyway, this goes on until 2 - 4 hours later. Then i'm allowed to do anything i want with the PC and my 3DS. The second one would be that i need to help my mom clean the dishes, cups, etc. (forgot the word for that) And that once my mom asks me to do so. The third one is that i must come downstairs and turn off my PC once my mom even starts with our dinner. Then we're sure that i'm downstairs in time.

How about you?

Interesting thread. I'm sure the answers would depend on the age and house role of the person (father, mother, child). Since I'm 20 and soon to move out most of the rules have become more or less unspoken, but they're still there. I follow them out of respect and habit now.

1. We eat together. Unless there's a specific VERY GOOD reason for me to eat in my room (finals next day, have to finish a report or whatever) we at least have dinner together whether it's in front of the TV or at our dinner table. I don't really mind this. It's quite nice.
2. Clean up your mess. This one is obvious. If you make a mess somewhere, often with breadcrumbs or having spilled something, you clean it up. This includes putting the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and putting stuff back where it was after you use it. I guess this could also include putting the laundry in the laundry basket and vacuuming every once in a while.
3. Feed the cats. This is usually my mom's job since she keeps track of what and when they eat (having much more experience with cats than anyone else in the house), but when neither of my parents are home I feed them and give them water. Again, pretty obvious. This isn't really a rule but it the fact that I do have to keep it in mind makes it an unspoken house rule in my book.

BTW: "clean the dishes" is a correct way to say that

When I lived with my mother, we sure did have a lot of house rules- too many to even begin. Now that I have my own place, my house rules are:
-turn all the lights off when going to bed
-put the Xbox controllers to charge when done playing
-hang all the headsets properly
-everything has a place so, make sure it finds it lol I like to be organized so my place is neat 98% of the time
-clean after yourself which I need to enforce more  messy messy people leave me too much work and that means less time for me to game
-don't use my bathroom

That's about it. Too many rules becomes a hassle in itself.

MarioLucarioFan64 : I have two bathrooms, one for guests and my master bathroom where I keep my make up and all kinds of valuable things so I'd prefer that no guest or family member uses that bathroom unless of course the other one was being used. It's not that I don't trust them is just if you have to use a bathroom then, the guest bathroom should be the first option not my personal one- I say this because at first it seemed everyone that came over walked into my bedroom straight for my bathroom so it kind of bothers me because to me it's more private specially when my room is all the way at the other side of the living room so it made no sense lol.

It started when my mother and my bf's mother came over and they both would only use our private bathroom- I took that as them trying to break into our privacy and have some sort of control so I had to make sure they understood we don't take orders from them anymore lol.

jlove92 : Hmm... I'm curious how much rooms you have now... But then we're going off-topic, so i guess it's better to talk on each profile's (once again)  or in the chatroom.

There's a ton of rules in my house, most of which are quite strict. SOme of them include not being able to go outside unless I say where I'm going and when I will be back, others include not being able to take food at all unless it's served.

Do the chores when supposed too. Take care of myself very well and not to get ill out of the blue. Even though this tends to happen quite often, and as for the last one behave well which I know I can do since I normally am on my best behaviour most of the time.

We really don't have any set, written or spoken rules, but just things that we all do out of common courtesy. We only have one bathroom, so one of us will ask the rest if they are needing to utilize the facilities before taking a long shower. We're pretty much broke all the time, so we try to turn the lights off in a room if no one's present there and we have a lack of doors separating the rooms (bathroom's the exception) so we do our best to be quiet when someone's sleeping. That's about it.
