Life is a very precious thing. You only live once (Presumably), so you should make the most of your time every day. However, what would you do if your life had no time limit or ending in sight? Would you go insane from boredom and having to deal with the eventual deaths of your dearest friends? Or would you prosper and plan to do things which would take a lifetime to accomplish?
Would you live forever or not? If your lifespan was shortened to 2 years, would you be regretful? Thanks for reading.

I'm a curious, open-minded guy and whereas I'm not excited about the probably pain and discomfort of death, since death looks like it hurts a lot, I'm interested in what's next.

I was raised Catholic and I learned about Heaven and all that when I was a kid. I've moved on to ask enough questions to decide that it's unlikely there really is Heaven the way we're taught it exists and it's some other kind of experience.

I would also feel bad when I die for those who are left behind and the grief and emotional pain they'll feel. I'm a role player in a lot of lives (Not bragging, seriously) and I know it'll have an impact on a big group of people when I'm gone. Maybe I'll outlive everyone and then I won't have to worry about it.

No, I don't want to live forever. I want to see what's next, eventually. I'm still enjoying myself on this earth and I'm doing what I'm doing and I'm loving it. But there has to be more out there than this rock spinning and hurtling through space and these people around me. Do I get to reincarnate like some people thing? The life of a tree doesn't sound good but the life of a dog is awesome. I eat, nap, take walks, and people pet me and I bark a lot. Why not do that?

Ultimately, I told my wife I'd like my body to be cremated and then she, or whoever the surviving family member is, has to take me to South Africa and dump my ashes in the ocean. The idea is those ashes are eaten by the food chain until they get to the level of Great White shark. Now I'm a part of that great white shark and I swim around and eat everyone and no one eats me. That's living!

But, no, I wouldn't live forever. It would get to be too routine after a while. I'd watch people die over and over again and I'd lose all the relationships. I think depression would be a big deal after a few thousand years.

I'll pass. I'll take whatever's next.

In a way while it would be interesting to live forever and see how society or humanity for that matter progresses throughout time , I'd have to pass on living forever because to me dying is all apart of life and everything must come to an end one day plus whats the point of living forever when everyone you will ever love or care for will die off, you'll see civilizations rise and fall, all  while you watch and continue your existence.

Living forever sounds really cool and great, but after a while, what would you even do? Assuming you still age normally, your life after 80 years of age is gonna suck, since you won't really be able to do much. If you don't age, then it'd be cool, since you could continue living life, but even that would become very boring after a certain amount of time. What will happen when you see your spouse die? Or your kids? Or your grandkids? That's just way too much loss to experience in a lifetime to truly be happy after experiencing all of that. Also, death is what brings urgency and value to our lives. If we were never to die, then the value of everything we experience would go down. Don't get me wrong, death is a pretty scary thing, but I think without it, I would just wander aimlessly for the endless length of time I am on Earth. I wouldn't really have much of a purpose in life and not really care about a lot of things, because, you know, I won't die.

As a Mormon, I was taught that John the Beloved asked for that exact thing. He wanted to "tarry until the Savior would come again". And he got it. So he dwells on this Earth, preaching repentance to try to prepare people for the Second Coming. Also, his wish was considered more sacred than Peter's wish (to live until a certain age, then die and come to live with God). I believe I can understand the reasons for each, though. There's a lot of problems here on this Earth. Staying here means putting up with all sorts of persecution, sorrow, etc. Going up there means being in greater control, in a sense. You wouldn't be able to make the sort of difference one still here on Earth can, but you'd get to see and live with your family again. John put that off so that he could bring more souls to Christ. I believe it's because of that choice that we have the books of 1 and 2 John and Revelation.

Well I'm a Christian so my answer is going to be from that perspective. Being a Christian when I die I will be dead physically. But my soul will live on in Heaven and with Jesus my lord and Savior.

Now to answer you question, I don't think If I could I would want to live forever psychically. Because most likely others that I love would have gone on too. Not to mention everything is a cycle. If 2 years were shortened of my life would I be satisfied would I be okay with that. Yes again as a Christian, I would be okay with that. To me that might also be a reality. Because I have a medical condition that might cause me to have a shorter life span. But when I look back at my life I'm satisfied with what I have accomplished. I would hope to be remembered how I was nice to everybody and a friend to all. A have thought a good fight in life.

No that'd be dumb.
Like imagine what happens after everything dies down?
You're just stuck floating there for all eternity. It's literally worse than death.

Also dying seems pretty cool idk

It would be nice but....everyone has to die sometime. You just have to life your life to the fullest, and when your time comes to die you have no regrets of what you have done in life. I wouldn't want to live on forever for no reason I don't see a reason for me too. When I die I die that's it I wouldn't want to be a wondering spirit still attached to the earth. But, for me to be in heaven with god, and other people I would know of as well. So there is my opinion for my own to do with this question.

Living forever seems awful. You'll see loved ones die, you'll probably go into depression and want to die, but you can't. I have trouble being mentally sound and not depressed now, so if I were to live forever... I would probably mentally break.

I would rather die. If it's heaven then that would be pretty sweet, and if it's nothing then at least I'm not mentally tortured forever xp.

No. Let me die please. Immortality might seem nice...at first. But when you outlive your family, friends, and then you realize that you have nothing or no one to share your life with, that is going to tear you apart and then you would seek death's embrace. Death is nothing to fear,we all must go sometime.

Living forever would have so many downsides that I would most likely be wishing that I could die after a few centuries or millenniums of being alive, watching the same things happen again and again while watching everyone I love die while I continue to live. Also, wouldn't people notice that you're not dying after you live to be 100 and you still look like you're in your 20s to 30s? I think any government would fight for eternal life, and they'd fight over you if they believed you to be the key to it.

Let's not forget that this is all assuming you have eternal youth to go along with that eternal life. If you're unlucky enough to have immortality without eternal youth, you'll stay alive but your body will grow older and less capable, eventually becoming a prison of flesh that you can never escape. Think about that for a moment.

What? In all honestly, complaining about the ones you love dying seems kind of minuscule and selfish. Like if I where to live you can spread wisdom, and save many peoples lifes due to your past experience's. Yeah I know it sounds kind of heartless but imagine what you could do and what you can save and protect if you had ever lasting life.

I would sacrifice it all to live forever if I ever got that option. There is so much to explore and do in life that one lifetime is simply not enough for me. Also, I like to think that in one lifetime, how many people have I affected for the better? Imagine how many more people I could help if I was able to live forever. Imagine all that one could see till the cosmos was swallowed whole. Imagine all the dramas and anime I could finally finish watching and enjoy not mention to future movies and gaming systems. Maybe space exploration will finally happen and I'd love to meet some life form that doesn't look like some 4 foot tall bug-eyed gray thing like everyone depicts aliens to look like. Ever play Mass Effect? That's what I'm hoping aliens look like, with diversity.

I'd have to decline immortality. I'd have to see anyone dear to me pass away, I could grow lonely, and it'll get very easy to be bored. I find it more a cure rather than a blessing.

I wouldn't like to live forever. Yes I could in theory experience everything I've ever wanted to, go to all kinds of places meet all kinds of people. But while I might be immortal but the same wouldn't go for any people close to me and I don't think many people could bear outsurviving all of their loved ones, maybe even kids if I have any which would just be messed up. No loving parent wants to outsurvive their kids. I think I'd start to feel depressed and lonely seeing so many people die and having no one who can relate to me. I'd probably get progressively more cynical as I see humanity make the same mistakes time and time again. Really I think it would drive most people, myself included to suicide eventually, it is no way for me to live.

Going by what above users have said about immortality, I don't blame them.

Life is pain, anyone who says differently is selling something. The truth of this statement becomes more evident the longer you go in life. Once you start to realize that everything is just a bunch of vicious cycles, you're gonna want out of this world before too long.

What I want to do is live forever figuratively.
I want what I do to be immortalized & go on after I die. I want to make impacts that will change the course of this world for centuries. I want my name to be mentioned in cultures and taught in schools everywhere.

So, I want to die when it's appropriate, but I want my footprint in this world to last quite a while.

I have no interest in immortality, it just seems like a drag. I'd like my life to be special, and make the most of it until I stopped experiencing new things. It's kind of like eating key lime pie. You like pie, it tastes good, you want to savor it, but an infinite amount would make it no longer special and at that point the lack of pie would be more special than anything else.

I would not want to live forever.

1. Your mental/physical health would decline as you age. Unless you can live in your prime forever,it would not be worth it.
2. Everything you know or everyone you know will be gone as time marches on. You would outlive your family, friends, people that you know and you would be utterly alone.
3. It goes against nature itself. Everyone is born and from that first breath you took, you begin to die. It is a natural process.

I think Mick from the "Rocky" series said it best.

I would like to live lets say 200 years, but forever? no thanks.. Lets just enjoy the time we have, immortality would just bring so much pain for you, seeing all your friends and loved ones dying every time again and again and again.. Or you just live your immortal hermit life in some mountains where you would never lose anyone.

Not enough information given for me to decide, so I'll add the information in some of my answers:

Does my body deteriorate? If yes, no I don't want to live forever, because eventually I will be alive, but still be a pile of ash unable to move. Or, if I get a disease, I'll slowly lose all abilities anyway, so I'd be alive but suffering forever.

If my body doesn't deteriorate, gosh darn right I would. If I stayed like this no matter what happened, I'd be a billionaire. I'd become the richest person in the world, simply because I couldn't die. Bill Gates would be a no-one in matters of wealth compared to myself.
