My dad has a tendency to get mad and yell at anything ranging from his phone to the fridge door, and even sometimes food. lol
I, on the other hand, find myself apologizing to things like bookshelves, furniture and walls when I bump them, just out of habit.

Do you know anyone who frequently verbally assaults an appliance or is overly polite to lamps?

Oh my gosh man, you were totally standing behind me a few minutes ago weren't you? I just apologized to an empty can of Sprite Zero for throwing it in the trash. No joke. Right there in a public place with people all around me, I held up a soda can, looked it straight in the...the label, and said out loud "Sorry for this, buddy". :V Told you guys I was nuts. And yes, I genuinely felt bad for throwing it away. Lol No worries, I know it couldn't hear me or care less about where it ended up.

But yes, I personally talk to inanimate objects politely. I have no idea why.

My dad on the other hand is like yours. He has no qualms with telling his phone, television, table, appliances, or even shoes how stupid they are. I think my favorite is when he gripes at a game or controller and says "You stupid thing. I didn't tell you to do that". Um..yes, yes you did, dad. xD It reminds me of a PlayStation Access video where the guy (I forget his name. He co-stars alongside Delsyn or however it's spelled. Also if anyone gets that, I will love them forever) complains about how he plays PES and the character passes to the wrong player when he obviously meant to pass to the other guy, because the developers put it into the new game to deliberately pass to the wrong guy when he (specifically this one guy) played it, but not when others did so. Good times. xD

Eirinn : I find it funny that we're comparing dads the same way older folk compare grandchildren lol. Nah, I wasn't standing behind you. I don't know where you live, yet... The funny thing is that my dad not only yells at them, but gets visibly angry and loud and is usually a whole lot more coarse with his language. Even when I don't do it out of habit, if I feel like the timing's right, I'll purposely say sorry to a lamp for whatever's right next to me where a lot of people see it just to see what kind of a reaction I get.

I've been belittling it and calling all kinds of names.

Talking to inanimate objects is a sign of insecurity

Nevertheless I talk to things when I bump into them by accident. Otherwise I don't yell at things. (unless you count videogame bosses, if so then data-riku can go delete himself)

I'm not going to lie this thread made me to laugh in a way. It kinds of reminds me of things what parents can do like as you explained. As my brother talking to the tv yelling while playing games saying *I didn't tell you to do that! Or I told you to go the other way!* as for my mother she would kiss her teeth more if she bumps into something into an object can't remember which ones sadly though. When it happens I can't help but to smile. I try to make sure something like that doesn't really happen to me but....not unless I am video gaming I don't do much of that, not unless I am typing something, and see a spelling mistake or something like that. XD

Oh man, I do this all the time! I'm so glad I'm not the only one... My friends and family always give me strange looks whenever I talk to myself or make a comment to an object that can't hear me.

It's out of habit for me, mostly. It's just ingrained into my brain that if I bump into someone, I say sorry. I guess I just apply it to objects as well. Sometimes I even find myself talking to them as if they were people... "You need a proper cleaning, don't you?" "Are you gonna work now, or...?" "Hey, can you not do that. Thanks."

I mean, it's just always been something I've done, ever since I was little. I used to go on for hours and hours telling all kinds of make-believe stories to my stuffed animals. I don't do that now, of course, but I think the habit of making pretend that objects have feelings is something that's stuck with me through the years.

Yea, I'm one of those people who talk to inanimate objects quite a bit as well. It's mostly me complaining when something doesn't work or play out how I want it to. You'll hear the phrase "Aw, don't do me like that..." a lot if you stick around long enough lol.

I tend to say things like what I mentioned before, "Oh, come on!" or "Stop being such a pain in my a**!!" When I'm frustrated with something I tend to call whatever it is a "Piece of s***" a lot as well. When I'm working on something or I'm trying to get a certain task done, I'll tell the tool / object I'm working on to "Cooperate" or something like that lol. When I bump into something, I tend to get angry and tell the object to watch where it's going or to stay out of my way, as if it could actually comply XD

I'm also one of those people who talks to animals a lot too. I treat my dog like a real person, and talk to most dogs, cats, and other animals as if they were people. I often call out to bunny rabbits when I'm walking my dog, telling them to run away before my dog catches sight of them and tries to chase it down and kill it lol. Animals may not be able to understand what you're saying, but a lot of them can at least understand what tone you're trying to get across

Mom has a terrible tendency to yell at the fridge door when the alarm for being open too much time starts sounding. It's overly annoying, because she leaves it open while she takes care of other things. Like if she couldn't close it if she knows she'll stay away from it, even if it's a short while.

I don't tend to yell at inanimate objects, but sometimes I may yell without aiming to anyone or anything about something an inanimate object is doing to get me on my nerves. I did yell at them in the past, but now is more of an open tantrum.

And well, if the man/woman presenting the newscast can be considered an inanimate object for being on TV, mom also says "good morning" to them

I talk to sports equipment. I play competitive pickleball at work and I'll cheer the ball on after I hit it, or demand it go out of bounds when the other team hits it.

"Drop! Let's go, DROP, DROP! FALL IN! GO***AMIT NOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

That's about the conversation on a play by play at any given moment when I'm on the court.

I don't talk to my car, I don't talk to anything else.

Oh...I so get upset at my video games sometimes...especially when I'm playing super smash bros wii u (as sonic). What I meant was for him to spring up, what he did was side dash to his doom...You guys have no idea how many times I have died that way. Even after becoming a pretty lean mean smashing machine I still lose for dumb reasons. And you can bet I'm there yelling at my suicidal hedgehog! I have also been on the other end of the spectrum as well, I just can't think of any good examples. Only my rage at sonic!

I scream at objects and question why they even exist or who put them there when I stub my toe as a way to ignore the pain.
I also scream at my laptop and I scream at video games from time to time. Ooh I also scream at my phone.

If you mean an actual conversation then I sometimes have some with my stress ball since it calms me down.

Also, I just realized how this post might make it seem like I have problems lol.

I don't really talk to inanimate objects at all really... y'all are crazy :p.

Well I do angrily whisper yell at the game when I lose or fail something. As for my computer, I used to angrily talk to my old one :v. Good times xp.

But other than that, I don't talk to inanimate objects. Saying sorry to lamps are for scrubs.

Yes, I do it. Sometimes when the Chromebook isn't working well, I tend to say "come on, Bessie!" or something like that and tap it or open and close it with varying degrees of force to try to stimulate "blood flow". It always works, although I'm not sure how it does.

ZeeTee : You meanie! You lamp abuser! I love lamp. Say it with me! "I love lamp!" Muy bien! YOU MUST APOLOGIZE TO YOUR LAMPS NOW OR I WILL FIND YOU AND I WILL KEEL YOU. Not kill you. KEEL YOU. The double e's make it look more menacing. Also, it's capitalized.

Mynamescox44 : I don't really find talking to animals as if they were people that odd. Just like with children, the more you talk to them in an intelligent way, the smarter they grow up to be. Some of our cats even understand a complete sentence or two, and most know what certain words mean.

EX Palen : I've been known to aimlessly exclaim on a number of occasions, mostly from computers, game consoles or other tech not working like it's supposed to. Ironic how all these advances in electronics that were intended to make living easier wind up over complicating things.

supernerd117 : My brother does something similar for old game cartridges. As he goes to blow off the dust, he'll pet it or stroke it a little and whisper "please work..." Oddly enough, it seems to work, most of the time.
Mynamescox44 : I don't really find talking to animals as if they were people that odd. Just like with children, the more you talk to them in an intelligent way, the smarter they grow up to be. Some of our cats even understand a complete sentence or two, and most know what certain words mean.

I talk out loud a lot. Most of the time just to hear my own voice. Sometimes I talk to the objects near me. Ex. When I make a mistake or something I'll just blurt out a small "Shut up stove, you didn't see anything" or "What do you know, you're a chair" or something nonsensical like that.
Sometimes I make jokes or puns to them, which they never laugh to of course, but it makes me laugh.
I could never be mad at my objects. I'm rarely if ever mad in general, but they haven't done anything, I don't see why I would say something bad to them.

A lot of us do it. We yell at our computers, smart phones, game consoles and TV's. Sometimes the inanimate objects are smarter than some people.

I wish I was able to get a little saner on that matter. I constantly yell at my computer when my game is not going the way I want, or at work when everything is not working as it should. My mouse seems to have right-click problems, which causes a lot of frustrations. Ditto for the keyboard; I ALWAYS seem to make the same mistakes (jsut instead of just, press the next key over no matter how careful I am), which causes useless talk too.
