Do any of you guys like baking for fun? If you do what do you like to bake the most? What is your favourite thing to bake? You can either say yes or no. But I would really like to know why. Did you used to bake with your mother when you were younger? Or do you still bake with her now but not as much? All answers are welcomed and shared on this thread. As most of you know I love to bake a lot, and I am well a professional baker. But I still feel I have a long way to go and need to learn a lot more things.

Eniitan : Nope! Not at all! I hate cooking, honestly, because by the time I find the energy to start cooking, I'm hungry, and very, very hungry. Plus there's really not a lot of stuff to bake in my house.

I do enjoy it when I'm not hungry, but not really enough to interrupt anything else that I'm doing, so eh, I guess. I can see why other people enjoy it, but I don't, and no one in my family really does, either, so we always have a very long discussion about who's going to be cooking dinner. If my stepmom's cooking, the we get actually get dinner. If my dad's cooking, we get pizza, and if I'm cooking, then I throw in a couple frozen pizzas. I get one, and everyone else gets the other one. xD

Plus, I'm actually really bad at cooking. I tried making cookies one time, and they ended up being bricks because I thought that putting in a full stick of butter would be gross, and only put in a third.

But like I said, that's why I don't cook. :/

Titan127 : That's understandable, and I like the system your family has when it comes to cooking. And also its ok baking doesn't come naturally for people same goes for cooking. You need to learn online for the basic ingredient's so you know how to make them. But I suggest try making them again, and if it would help you want me to guide you on that? Its ok to say no but I kind of feel that you try a lot more you will be able to bake those cookies right.

I mean, other than the butter, I pretty much had the ingredients right, I think. Although I guess it really didn't count as baking, since they were from a bag. Or does it? I really don't know...

We don't have any cookie stuff in the house at the moment, either, but an ingredient list would certainly be appreciated! Since you're a pro, you must be really good at baking and all that, so I'll take any advice I can get. Improvement is never a bad thing.

Titan127 : Would you mind telling me that ingredients that you used before please? So then I know how to advice you. And also could you tell me what type of butter that you used that gave it an off taste?

Well, there was the cookie batter packet...thing. You know, those little plastic baggies that cookie mix comes in? And then I added the butter, I think eggs, and then, of course milk.

I should've added chocolate milk. My little sister (who's five years old) taught me that.

It was stick butter, I'm not sure what brand...Daily Chef. Just checked. It wasn't so much an off taste as it was the butter not being melted and me not putting in nearly enough of it. The cookies were like rocks. They tasted good, they were just really hard to actually eat. And I had brought them into school because me and my classmates convinced my teacher that we should celebrate a certain something. It was pretty fun.

Titan127 : Oh so you brought a batter mix? Yes those I know of, and are quite popular with people who can not bake from scratch. Hmm....I see where you are getting at with this. What I would suggest is try again, and use a different butter instead. Another that thing can trick people off is having the oven on the wrong degrees for the baking. Also you need to time how many mins they would take for them to be ready. It should take them no longer than 8-10mins to make. I'm going to like link you a receipt that should help. I can, but not unless you want to keep buying the mix since it would be easier for you that way?

Yes I like to bake. The last few years I entered cookies in county fair in open class category. I bake with my mom and she usually enters a cookie class too at the fair. I make the dough the night before and then bake them before school on entry day. The only time we didn't place in top 3 was with a peanut butter cookie. I'm going to enter cookies this year too. Cookies we have made before are sugar, cherry truffle bars, banana pecan, chocolate chip, snicker doodles and black bottom banana bars.
I like to bake during rest of year too. Sometimes we like to make brownies or cookies or banana or pumpkin muffins but it's too hot to turn on the oven much during the day in summer.

Kilian : Oh wow that's amazing! Some of the things you have mentioned I have baked as well. Baking is so much fun isn't it? How fun was the county fair and did you enjoy yourself? I am sure at most it is every bakers dream to participate in a county fair, and to show off their baked good with designs as well. You seem like a real pro at that, do you also think that you can give titan a hand since he said he would like to try and bake again please? The more help he gets the better. Anyways I am truly impressed you, and your mother have made so many goodies like that. And I am sure a lot of people enjoyed eating them. Because that is what matters the most. Making people happy by giving what you baked. Oh I love brownies as well!

I have found that using half real butter and half country crock in the recipe makes them just right. When we use all butter they are hard. Or all country crock they are too soft or runny. The half and half works for most drop cookies we have tried. But if it's for a crust layer with crumbs all real butter works better.

Country crock is that stuff in a tan tub that is not real butter but is still good on a lot of things.

Kilian : Wow! Thank you so much for explaining that! This would help some members when in need of knowing something. You really know your stuff well. Have you considered making becoming a baker when you grow up? And maybe own a small shop of your own to sell those types of cookies, that you mentioned? It would really be cool if you would do that one day. But, then again it might not be something you are looking to do when you have grown up.

I want to be a scientist when I grow up. I'm not sure yet what kind. But I like to learn how to do many things and always have adult helping me stay safe.

Kilian : Oh I see thanks foe letting me know. I would suggest having the baking like on the side so that, you have something to fall on if one thing won't work for you in a way. But, I do really wish you the best of luck to achieve being a scientist. It won't be an easy step but I am sure you'll be able to make it with the right studying and knowledge for it.

Yeah...I really do like to do that during week-ends . Usually I bake banna cake, or onion stuffings. If I could share with you people, but I live very far from you all.

abhisek : Aww that's so sweet. I would eat some of your baked goods and, do the same for you as well. But, you know sadly most of the people on vizzed live in different areas of the world and all. If only one day we can all gather and do a meet up. But I doubt that is to ever happen. Anyways banana cake sounds really nice to have. I've baked it before but not really eaten it. Since I am not really much of a banana fan really and onion stuffing sound since to try. I don't think I have eaten it before though. Maybe one day I should try it out or look it up on Google to see what it looks like.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to bake. If I did though, I'd definitely enjoy baking cookies. Chocolate Chip Cookies in particular are one of my favorite snacks/desserts.

gamerforlifeforever : Maybe one day you can learn to try? chocolate chip cookies or shortbread biscuit's are the most simplest things people will start out to bake on if they want to become a baker of the sort. I remember I sucked badly when making those chocolate chip cookies no matter how hard I tried. But, I kept on going until one day I GOT IT RIGHT! Its a great motive to do that, although you will feel discouraged at times with how many failures you have done. But the greatest achievement in that, is the day when you get it right. And then start to try and bake something new once that has been perfected.

I've done my fair share in school cooking classes so I know to bake some things like some simple Muffins, Cookies, Pies (not sure if they're going to taste amazing though) can generally follow most baking recipes with a little guidance assuming it's not too complex. It's not really something I particularly enjoy though. I'd probably find regular cooking more entertaining because I find it more versatile and there's more room to experiment.

Though most of the time I end up avoiding both because I'm a lazy person, so I end up being more drawn to other hobbies I guess having some basic knowledge is a good thing though considering there are a lot of others who haven't even learned the basics.

Zlinqxthecooluser™: Oh wow I'm not going to lie your post cracked me up so much. I loved the way that you described what you baked in your cooking class. I'm still not good at making sweet pies and looking into perfecting it one day. But, sadly that can not be done as of now. Yeah I have seen some bakers bypass in a way, and had not learned the basics of baking. But still have some good knowledge to that. Its a small world how people do things for baking as a hobby or more. I see that you find cooking more entertaining? I'm not going to lie it has its own purpose of serving for people to enjoy, that in a way. And I am not surprised you told me that, you are a lazy person. XD
