So I always wondered if charizard was overrated 'cause nearly everyone speaks highly of it saying stuff like "charizard is the best!" And not to mentioned that virtually everyone has one. so I went to a couple of people's profiles and asked until a member informed me to create a thread about it instead. To be honest, I don't know much about charizard. (Game-wise) Is it's stats really that good? And please no flame. Btw, if anyone for whatever reason believe that this will turn into something unfavorable, please contact the local mods immediately.

I've never really gotten why everyone liked Charizard that much compared to other starters and it is very overrated.

I mean besides maybe Pikachu, it's the most popular Pokemon out there. And gamefreak has given it a ton of fanservice since the X and Y games were released with it being the only starter with two mega evolutions and it also being in smash.

There's nothing really spectacular about it in particular, I mean it's decent like pretty much all starters are in game but it's not really great. I instead think the reason a lot of people started to like it is because of Charizard in the television show, where he was basically portrayed as Ash's strongest Pokemon.

I think nostalgia plays the biggest role in his popularity. A lot of people grew up with him, which is understandable.

Yes, Charizard is overrated but still a great Pokémon overall. Both useful in attack and special attack and has a good speed stat. Keep it away from any Rock type or Stealth Rock though, it can't survive that.

Compared to other Pokémon with Mega's (especially the starters), it is unfair that Charizard gets 2 Mega's and all the other Pokémon besides Mewtwo only get one! Charizard with Pikachu also got many love in the Pokémon Anime. That might be also the reason why it is so overrated.

TornadoMudkip : lol I guess fire-breathing dragons were extremely popular back then. In my opinion, other pokemon like snorlax deserve more praise. Actually, snorlax is pretty underrated to tell the truth. Also I have to agree with you on the charizard having 2 mega stones unfair part, mudkip. Since needlessly to say they both boost it's power considerably and possibly alter its abilities. Local Mods: I want this closed now, but can I reopen it later on?

Well. since this thread is reopened, I'll have to say that Charizard is not overrated, though I do prefer Swampert over Chraizard. Charizard is definitely the best fire type in the series. A lot of other Fire types either have poor stats, bad movesets, or both. Charizard has really good stats, it can learn many great moves, and it has 2 mega evolutions, my favorite being Mega Charizard Y because it has the drought ability.

I believe Charizard is overrated.

The Pokemon was given his own character slot in Super Smash Bros. 4. Instead of sharing with Squirtle and Ivysaur in the previous installment.

Charizard is overrated because of the anime, it is one of Ash's strongest Pokemon. It beat an Articuno before. Besides that, Charizard is pretty good to use in the game since he has two mega evolution's, Mega Charizard X being my favorite.

Yeah I think he gets too much attention. 

I liked him in smash bros. brawl but that's about it.
