I've made a few updates to the Video Game Character feature and also made some fixes.


Characters Can Now Be Assigned to Games
When you go to edit or add a character, you'll now have the option to assign it to a specific game under the "First Appearance" category. This links the character with the game that it first appeared in.

All character pages that have been assigned to a game will have a clickable link to its game page. Also, on each game page, the list that shows all characters that have been tagged for that game will also show characters assigned to the game.

I created and ran a script which automatically assigned characters to their proper game page for a lot of characters but the script was only able to take care of around 1/4 of all the character pages so the staff and I will slowly work on assigning those characters to their proper game page.

Added Characters from Non-Staff Become Available Instantly
Previously, when a character was added to the site by a non-staff member, that character got its own page right away but it didn't become available in the character drop down list until a staff member approved it. That's no longer the case. The only characters that don't appear in the drop down list when tagging a character are characters which have been disabled.


Character Drop-Down List Works Again
For a little while now, the character drop down list which appears when you go to tag a character to a screenshot wasn't working. It has been fixed. Also, an update I made not too long ago makes it so that the list is always up to date and is never cached.


List of Characters Updated
The list of characters in each game has been updated slightly. It now displays the list in alphabetical order, has a number next to each character name showing how many times that character was tagged for that game and the list is also broken into 2 lists for some games: Characters with 3 or more tags and characters with less than 3 tags. This will help make that list easier to look at.

Staff : Letting you all know of this update since a lot of you have been adding or editing characters lately and will want to make sure to assign all future characters to the game page of their first appearance. You can go back and assign characters that you've previously worked on to a game page if the script I ran didn't do it automatically. You'll know if a character is assigned to their game page if it has a link to the game's page under the 'First Appearance' field on the edit/add page.

I was wondering if it was just on my end that the character drop-down list wasn't working. Now I know that it was a site issue. Thankfully, most of the screenshots I took lately had Mario in them, which is a very easy character to add because it's just "Mario [Mario]" in the drop-down list.

No kidding I thought it was just me too with the drop-down list. I figured it was because I switched browsers.

I'm glad that the character drop-down list has been fixed. Like several others have said, I thought the problem was only on my end.

Regarding the 'Characters Can Now Be Assigned to Games' feature, I just made a fix it for. Before, it wasn't able to assign the game to the character if the game's name had a ' in the title. This has been fixed.
