I wish I could learn about conditions, disabilities, and diseases at school. I'm pretty sure I'll learn about those at some point, but so far I haven't. I like to be able to understand everyone.

At least in the US, I wish that Schools taught kids some more real life applicable skills. I mean not every kid is going to go off to college.

It would be cool if kids could learn to see if they want to be a carpenter, a plumber, electrician, etc. It would also be cool if they showed kids how to do their taxes and how to write a resume. Stuff like that.

I know some school districts do some of this, but MANY of them do not.

At school, I wish I could learn some coding. I would like to make my own Android apps, but I have no clue how to code in Java. I think it would be fun to learn something new!

This is not really answering your question, but I think there should be a first responder class for all highschool kids. Not simply a little 2 or 4 day crash course. But something that would be a few weeks long and tests and practical exams and such, and really teach everyone coming out of school to be able help in most emergency situations.

Sure most people have their workplace first aid... but still have no idea what to do when their faced with an injury. Partly it's because some people freeze when faced with something like that, but I think it's also because that little 2 or 4 day course is not enough, and easily forgotten.

I would like to learn a foreign language (preferably a foreign language used often in the United States like Spanish) in elementary school because that would increase the communication between one and people who do not have a grasp of the English language. Generally the earlier you are exposed to something, the better you become better at it and use it more often, and that's how people become fluent in languages. It would also help with businesses, organizations, and etc as well. I am amazed on how some European users are at least bilingual here on Vizzed and are able to communicate with us due to their early exposure on other languages. Why not be culturally sensitive and understand others by learning other languages?
PS learning a foreign language for 3 years in US high schools is not enough to be fluent in it.

If there are two things I wish I could learn at school, it's not so much computer programming (Though that WOULD be nice), so much as learning how computers actually work. That kind of thing seems slightly more interesting to me.
Another thing? Taxes. It may be boring, but I feel like it's more relevant than budgeting. I mean, I don't think you need actual courses on essentially saying, 'Hey! Let's NOT buy this just yet.'

Totts : I wish I could learn about what is really important to life's challenges, like taxes, insurance, and money. Specifically how to deal with money. All of those things would be very good topics to learn and become aware of during high school years.

I wish we were taught some general life skills. School is great for learning stuff needed for many jobs, but they often leave out the basics of real world life. Stuff like carpentry, paying and filing taxes, ethics would be welcome in schools.

Boxia :

I agree with your statement. School does provide an important educational foundation, but certain life skills are also crucial to know for the real world. I wouldn't mind taking a class that taught us the basics to coping with real world life. Not every student is college bound, so this serves as a means of assisting them their life after school.

I'd really like to learn astronomy or oceanography at my school. It's disappointing because it says my school offers it on the course handout booklet, but after I attempted to enroll in these classes last year, my counselor said that they aren't taught anymore because not enough students sign up for it to make enough classes. I dunno, I just find this to be heavily disappointing because this sort of stuff deeply fascinates me.

I wish there was some flexibility from a one-size-fits-all model. That way, schools could focus on some subjects rather than others.

On my side, I wish I had had more Spanish. I only had it for two years; it was good enough to give me basics - my understanding is actually pretty well - but I still struggle when speaking

Mainly 2 things. Though they are available at some schools they aren't at anyone where I live.

Firstly Computer programming, there has actually been talk of offering it as an alternative to the textile crafts and wood crafts which is something I would've loved if I had the chance (and would probably do a lot better at to). As it stands though if it does actually happen it wont be in some time at which point I wont be able to do it anyways.

The other is japanese. A few schools offer it from an early point that I sadly can't afford going to but other then that it's mostly restricted to higher grades. I'd like to see it being something you can start learning already during 6th grade like French and Spanish. Probably not gonna become a regular thing but I could dream I suppose

Zlinqx : I learned Spanish (and had extra classes of English) instead of cooking and sewing classes. I may not be able to make a boxer - and I learned cooking outside of school - but at least I can understand most of what my Dominican in-laws have to say .

Computer programming would certainly be an interesting option. I'm always at lost when looking at html coding; it would be useful for my job when I review websites for bugs.

I really wish that I could learn code in school. I know a good bit of code, but I don't know and I haven't mastered everything quite yet. Code is something that I've always wanted to learn, and I hope I one day get to learn it from a teacher.

I wish that I could have learned more about sports at school, I don't really think that what we learned this year had been enough. The stuff we learned was really helpful bit had nothing to do with what I want to do. No managing, or anything.
