It depends on what you see the definition of power as. I see it as a strategy to win something, or a way of doing things. With great knowledge, you can come up with smart strategies to defeat your opponent easily.

LunarDarkness2 : I see your point and i somewhat agree with it but what if said opponent has more money better resources larger numbers the odds are all around stacked in their favor. I personally think friends are what give us power as well knowledge! With the right combination of the two someone can do anything!

edit: Im talking true power. when you said strategy i assumed a battle of sorts. i feel like i can explain the friends thing better, i am sure you heard the phrase "its not what you know its who you know"

Actually Knowledge is power. There are a lot of people who say brains can only get you so far, but this is not true. Without Knowledge we would not have any of the inventions we have today. I think it is important to have knowledge to at least gain an understanding of how things go and work, but hey, that's just me.

Of course it is. That's why politics has become so large and powerful: because THEY have knowledge we don't - or at least, most people don't. EVERY subsidy you see, even if you end up receiving it, was taken from someone else. And thanks to public education, which doesn't really encourage knowledge but rather blind obedience, the cycle gets more and more vicious.

Yes knowledge is power to a certain extent. You just have to find out how to use that knowledge as power.

I agree with LunarDarkness2. It really depends on the situation. But you gotta admit, having knowledge makes life much easier. Without knowledge, you wouldn't know how to do anything and your views on certain subjects would make absolutely no sense.

Knowledge without wisdom is futile. Ex: Knowing you're about to get punched in the face is pointless unless you have the wisdom to block or duck. Quack.

Ferdinand : A little extreme, don't you think

But it does apply to less dramatic situation. One can learn a foreign language, but without practical applications it's basically useless. The same thing goes for general knowledge: learning about economics or politics but not using that knowledge in everyday life will just keep those old fallacies alive.

janus : Yeah I know. I made my example serious to drive home my point. Plus it provided the opportunity to make a truly stupid joke for me. Another example could be knowing the dangers of drinking and driving, or some other unsafe act yet indulging nonetheless.

Certainly ignorance is bliss, but living in bliss leaves you without any encouragement to grow and become better than you ever were.

Knowledge is one of the many parts to a well rounded powerful individual.  I think you could equally say "Hard work is power," and "happiness is power," and "Ingenuity is power."  It all matters.

Buga-the-Knut : I agree with Lunar. If you have a decent knowledge, you can outsmart your opponent. I also agree with gamerforlife, if you don't have knowledge, then life would be extremely difficult. With knowledge, you can handle even the hardest situations by yourself.

I think that knowledge is power but only to a certain extent. Yes without knowledge we wouldn't have all the inventions we have today but even if you didn't have as much knowledge as the person your sitting next to you can still have strategy and wit to beat your opponent. This is just my experience and how I look at it.

Bintsy : Ah, but isn't true strategy dependant on knowledge? Strategy isn't 'playing the odds', it's based on your knowledge of your opponent and your environment. A man could have a perfect war strategy, but lack knowledge of the terrain, and therefore lose the fight.

Yes, I definitely believe knowledge is power. Knowledge is power, wisdom and experience show us how and when to utelize that knowledge.

Knowledge is a broad territory. There is a difference between book smarts and street smarts. It can include manipulating people or a situation to your benefit. It also comes into play in terms of strategy. Even when you have strength it's useless if you don't know the correct way to use it.

Knowledge can be used to your benefit in many ways. Even devious forms like blackmailing and deceit all count as knowledge. Either way it's the deadliest weapon you have if you know how to use it.
