So, the latest Nintendo Direct threw everyone a curveball. There isn't one, but TWO DLC characters!

Mewtwo, but also, shockingly, LUCAS?!

Tell me your thoughts on this? Do you think any major changes will be made to these characters? Or just join me in the SQUEE!

With Lucas here I can finally buy the game.

Wait a sec, if this is an April fools prank I'm seriously going to be pissed. Like please no Nintendo.

Omigosh. Words cannot DESCRIBE the amount of hype I had when Lucas was announced. And I don't even main Lucas! From the looks of it, Lucas doesn't look very changed, though I am liking what I saw of his aerials.
As for Mewtwo, everything I was going to say got blotted out once I saw Lucas. Well, except Mewtwo Y as his Final Smash, though I saw that coming. What I didn't see coming is that instead of an actual transformation, it seems to almost work more like Marth's Final Smash, I think.

The fact that Mewtwo has been announced has made me want to buy the game. Unfortunately, I still don't have the money for it, so all I can do is watch and sigh. XD  I don't really care as much about Lucas as I have never played him? I can see why others are getting so hyped up about him, though, so good for them. Maybe eventually I'll have enough spare money scraped together for both game and at least one DLC character, but I'm not really getting my hopes up too much.

I want Wolf.

A few things.

One, I don't want DLC, I rather have it be included with the game. Unless it's free DLC, but the chances of that? None.
Second, why Lucas? He was an okay character I guess, but does he really need DLC?

Third, why don't we have more Star Fox? (Sword's post helped just a bit with this idea, totes original other-wise)
We all want Slippy in the game, amirite?

   I was pretty excited to see Lucas show up. I mained him in Brawl, and although Ness is good in the new one, I miss Lucas' moves, especially his deadly smash attacks. I don't think either will see a very big change in moveset, and from the video, it definitely seemed like their movesets were intact from the games they were in before. Which, since I mained Lucas in Brawl and Mewtwo in Project M, I have no problem with that. I'm interested to see what cool custom moves they will get, especially seeing how Lucas' would differ from Ness'.

And I'm very intrigued to see what the voting process brings. Obviously, it is still quite a way off, but it makes me wonder if we'll get something between Lucas and whenever that comes up. Hopefully a free update with more stages or something will come up. As long as Nintendo handles the DLC well like they normally do, I'm okay with this, which isn't a normal thing for me to say about DLC other than Nintendo in gaming right now.

paper luigi: First off, your wanting of free DLC. Guess what? All the new characters in SSB4 so far like Greninja and Robin are literally DLC that comes with the game. Asking for DLC to be included with the game in the first place defeats the purpose of DLC. It takes a very long time and a lot of hard work to create just a single character. You want DLC included in the game? That would delay the release of the game. Plus, think of DLC as a gift. They finish the game and have a lot of new stuff, people are happy, blah blah blah. The game creators decide to give players even more characters. Tons of games have DLC, and very often it's $10 for a single character and for just a single level in some games it is often $5. Each DLC character is $4 for one console, and $5 if you get it for both consoles. That is insanely cheap and generous.

Second, your whining about Star Fox. Star Fox is popular, but the Mother series has exploded and become extremely popular with the release of both Melee and Brawl. Wolf is commonly requested to return, but Lucas was one of the most used characters in Brawl. Polls have shown that it goes pretty much Link (like 80% of casual players), then Meta Knight (OP players), then Kirby (people think he's cute and like Kirbicide), then Lucas. Wolf is way down in the bottom 25% of almost every poll. They have every reason to pick Lucas over Wolf as DLC. Plus, maybe he will come as DLC. It shouldn't be too hard. Really all you need to do is make the models and animations, then slightly tweak attacks for game balance. It's like tracing a drawing.

After Mewtwo was first announced, I thought that would be the last character in SSB4, but then came the Nintendo Direct with it's crazy bombshell, Lucas! I was pleasantly surprised by this, I personally never play as him or Ness, but it's nice to see the Mother series get another character to represent the series in Smash. I was even happier when they said that we'd be able to vote for one more addition to the game! I really hope that Shadow the Hedgehog will be added, though I'm not expecting that to happen at all. I don't see Lucas being changed very much, but I don't know about Mewtwo. Melee is the only game in the series that I never had a chance to play.

And wow. Mewtwo

Since I use most of the Pokemon in Smash I wouldn't mind trying Mewtwo out, it's been years since I've last used him. He was fun to use in Melee even though he was slow, wave dashing helped if you wanted to use him competitively. I really hope that Mewtwo's moveset has changed while still having some of the old. 

Besides all that, I think it's great that Lucas " came out of nowhere " and joins the fight once again. I didn't really use him in brawl but I would be more than happy to try him out in Smash 4. 

I'm really liking the DLC that Nintendo has made so far especially for Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8.

It's interesting that Nintendo is now doing the whole DLC thing. I really don't like DLC as a thing in the game industry, but I guess it can be an acceptable practice if the DLC is worth the price and isn't something that should have been included with the game. I guess we'll have to see whether or not these characters are worth the price.

NovemberJoy : It sort of worries me about them doing DLC. But unlike most companies, they seem to have the right idea with DLC. First of all, it's not selling you content already on the disc. This seems to be genuinely new content, long after the release of the game. 5.99 for a new character for both versions isn't TOO bad considering all the work it takes.

DLC is just awful. It's a way for companies to squeeze that last bit of cash from the consumer. Also, why the hell are the characters Lucas and Mewtwo? That's just weird. They were originally characters in the full game, now they put them in as DLC? Man, I remember when Nintendo didn't feel the need to squeeze that last extra few dollars. I'm not thinking too far back either. It's not like I'm talking about the days of the NES or N64, I'm talking like Wii and DS. Makes sense though, what with all this terrible garbage there putting on the market. Nintendo, kindly stop "revolutionizing" our childhoods with things we don't want. Good day to you sir!

Petraplexity : Ryu and Roy were actually just leaked today. They were probably going to announce them tomorrow at E3, but an update was accidentally released today and revealed a small amount of footage from both.

Color palettes were also leaked apparently.
